I seriously couldn't tell, he looks so fucking vicious. Though now I notice the Imperial insignia, haha.
The quite large chainsword fits very well, I think.
Damn good job drawing, and I bet the character is awesome too, am I right?

Haha, a little bit, he's know as the tyrant slayer, tasked by the chapter master to wipe out a hive fleet that nearly wiped out his second company and the first company. He chased them down and wiped them out after 300 years of scouring the universe; only to be killed by his own men in a chapter war after reuniting with the rest of the chapter for first time in 400 years. he lost his eviserator chainsword to a mortally wounded hive guard and slayed the tyrant it was guarding with its own severed power sword; he had the mechanicus rig up the alien blade to his ruined eviserator and became his symbol of power.
A complete fucking psycho, I'd wager? I love when Imperial marines aren't displayed as great heroes and shining knights for a change. Once read a story about Chaos and loyal Marines fighting each other and you had a damn hard time telling who was worse.
It was Grimdark to the bone, exactly how 40k is supposed to be, I think.
Also, your art is really damn impressive. You've got that slightly cartoon-y, stylized look giving the piece an amazing aura and expression; it looks "whole" and fitting in itself, for want of a better description.
One question though, is that digital art or penwork? I can't quite tell.

He's a madman, but he cares about his men and the people he's trying to protect; its what keeps him grounded in reality and slipping into true madness. And during the civil war, he immediately begins attacking his former brother without a shred of mercy or doubt and gathers a force to assault the traitor's flagship (the former 1st company captain) but is betrayed by his own company and has his head lopped off by his honor guard champion.
that does fit it pretty well actually, and i do both digital and pen work; i only started worikng digitally less than a year ago

That's the best thing about a character; the Why. Why does he fight? Why has he become who he is? In all of storytelling, there is nothing more powerful and capturing than the Why. That question alone asked only once is enough to drive a whole novel if need be.
I'm more of a writer myself, but I've been trying my hand at some drawing recently and already made some progress. Also I was gifted a graphic tablet, but I fail spectacularly at that. Can't even draw a halfway straight line without a ruler.
Any pointers you'd be willing to share?

and thats the whole thing about the chapter, they are the embodiment of madness running through the universe and only by conquering their inner madness will they be able to become a true space marine and son of Sanguinius. Each warrior in the chapter had to overcome the burning hunger in them and that's what makes each of them so powerful; by mastering themselves, they can master the galaxy.
That is amazing. You've combined Nietzschean Übermensch philosophy with Space Marines. That's a completely natural fit, how the hell didn't I think of this?
Actually I'm just realising it's present in the Exorcists chapter as well, you know, them being possessed by demons then exorcised to harden them and seal them off against corruption. Also a process of overcoming one's weaknesses.
Still, amazing background for a custom chapter. And the amount of detail the character of Ferrus got is a seal of quality, so to say.
Do you play the tabletop game, too?

I do have this one...
It's only a sketch and a total rip-off of a drawing by Greyall from the Bolter and Chainsword forums, photographed with a smartphone-cam in bad lighting, but it's what I have at the moment.
Shapes are off (helmet is supposed to look quite different), proportions I think are halfway decent, though.
What do you think?

Alright, the sword and helmet design is solid, the proportions and armor design need some help; his arms are too small, the armor (especially around the legs where they connect to the pelvis) should show the joints between interlocking sections of armor, the head (while its okay to have some proportional issues due to the mass of the power armor, there needs to be some sort of balance) is too small compared to the rest of the body, the body is too long as well (consider making the body roughly equivalent of 7 of his heads stacked up each other, from foot to head), the pauldrons are too small as well (on a merely technical stand point they do not offer enough protection to the wearer). phew, alright those are my major beefs with the picture, i hope it was helpful :D
(FYI i think we have the same laptop...)

I suggest you get a simple game making engine such as Rpg maker XP (XP is best version) Adventure game studios etc.
Play around with them, wrap your mind around switches and events in RPG Maker and functions in ags.
and then (or you can skip the first part and start with this directly) move onto something a bit more complicated such as (Visual studio) XNA, Flash, unity, unreal etc.
Then just read tutorials and bam, you know how to develop games.

I'd suggest subtler colors and less blur/ smudging. Here, these may help: kalambo.deviantart.com/art/Background-tutorial-Part-1-208346837 kalambo.deviantart.com/art/Background-tutorial-Part-2-255819198
Also, remember to unify the picture. The reflections in the water are a good start, but even the grass and tree would reflect the orange and yellow and red from the sky. griffsnuff.deviantart.com/art/How-I-paint-digitally-tutorial-185097601?q=gallery%3Agriffsnuff%2F24055816&qo=27 this explains it well.

Uhm.... try a roman gladiator theme as freddy mercury stabbing jjustin bieber in the chest with a trident in the middle of a collusiem.
this will be a test of your skills to see if I shall use you as my muse for my OTHER deranged image thoughts.....

I don't know about dark and sinister, but yeah, it's supposed to be sort of sad.
I was thinking black or very dark grey colours. The only thing is, i don't know what to change or add. Also, if you know any good editing software except for Photoshop.
