Photoshop. And thanks alot man!
User avatar #59248 to #59243 - adunsaveme (08/08/2014) [-]
This is fantastic, man.
Do you usually do them all this particular way though? I notice it's a kind of fuzzy, almost blurred thing.
Is that the intended style or is it cos it's a work in progress?

Also there's a rectangle area on the right side that looks like a glitchy bit of an old VHS. Doesn't detract from the image but I'm not entirely sure what's going on.
#59254 to #59248 - groulgarigon (08/08/2014) [-]
This is actually something new that I'm trying out. I'm taking my sweet time with it too. I'm not particularly think about anything except for the colors and composition right now. It's fuzzy for now because I'm not yet focused on all the little details. If I did I'd lose sight of the big picture and that's not good for an early image. So in a way I guess it is my style but it's also because it's a WIP. x)

And that thing on the right is pure coincidence it won't be there in the finished product.
User avatar #59255 to #59254 - adunsaveme (08/08/2014) [-]
You can see it though, right? The little bit of distortion? I'm not going insane or anything?

What's your secret, master?
#59246 to #59245 - groulgarigon (08/08/2014) [-]
Well there's alot of them. I guess my biggest one is I finally have a viable source of income and it allows me to slow down and relax on these kinds of pictures. Instead of worrying about deadlines I'm more focused on doing the picture right. And that's a comforting thought to have.

Another one would be I'm finally in a position where I'm happy with the person I am if I may be introspective for a moment. Either way these two things, though they have nothing to do with art in particular, are my two main reasons for productivity~

Also, I'm not a master.... yet~ But the term is endearing~ <3
User avatar #59247 to #59246 - thegrohltroll (08/08/2014) [-]
Nigga what motivates you? I sit down, start a drawing, then 30 mins in, I say fuck it and leave it. As you can see from my "drawings" vvv the only things I do are stupid sketches.
#59253 to #59247 - groulgarigon (08/08/2014) [-]
What motivates me? Hmmm... Well necessity. There's no great motivator like it. Having a desire is great but if you can make that desire a need, you'll find motivation easy to come by.

Another good motivator is habit. Make a habit of drawing a certain amount each day, and each day it will become easier to do. If you need to give yourself a break for a day that's okay but never go without drawing for more than a day.

Sketches
User avatar #59213 to #59205 - alleksi (08/08/2014) [-]
Also, here's a problem that I noticed:

My photoshop is constantly using almost 4 GB of RAM. This seems unnaturally high.
I draw on a 5000x5000 canvas, with 72 resolution (quite frankly I don't know what this is and how I should optimize it), and 16 bit mode, but I still don't think it should be using that much RAM, especially for simple one-color sketches like these. I'm literally running out of RAM while I'm drawing. (I got 8 GB's of RAM but chrome is another surprising memory consumer when you have loads of tabs open).

Anyone else get the same results with photoshop? Just doesn't seem right to me.
User avatar #59218 to #59213 - gameshredder (08/08/2014) [-]
It might be because you're using such a large file size with 16 bit.

I draw on a 2000x2000 canvas on 8-bit.

Try that and see if it preforms better.
User avatar #59224 to #59218 - alleksi (08/08/2014) [-]
Reducing the size definitely helps, but 5000x5000 is what I have found to work the best as it allows a good amount of zooming in without any pixelization. Even 2000x2000 is a bit too small for me. The amount of RAM the software uses just doesn't feel right. 4GB for a single canvas with blue scribbles on it. well I suppose there's no helping it. I just gotta close down a load of other stuff while I draw, I guess.
#59238 to #59224 - anonymous (08/08/2014) [-]
Photoshop will pretty much use any RAM you let it use, and even while working on a single layer, you can reach the cap pretty quickly. I think the default memory amount is around 4 GB which you mentioned. You can limit the amount of RAM photoshop is allowed to use by going to Edit > Preferences > Performance.
You could try lowering the memory usage if you're just doing sketches, as it shouldn't slow down the program too much. Also, if you use multiple history states, they can consume a lot of memory.

I'm not expecting people to post stuff here instantly, if they post something in a few hours or a day that's fine. I never said it had to be done quickly, they take as long as they want.

this is more of a drawing excessive and it doesn't count if you just post something you did a long time ago, it's like going into an art exam with a painting you did last week.

also Obama because I enjoy Obama.

No don't download flash. The brushes are terrible. only good thing about it is how easy it is to manage the frames.

Get TVpaint or toonboom.
User avatar #59222 to #59221 - gameshredder (08/08/2014) [-]
>The brushes are terrible

You mean the one brush?

You don't get an animation program because of the brushes, that's what you get a painting program for (I guess)
User avatar #59237 to #59222 - citruslord ONLINE (08/08/2014) [-]
For learning animation, Flash is incredible.
For producing any kind of finished animation, it's pretty much garbage. Atleast for hand-drawn stuff. Besides exporting frame by frame to photoshop or something, your stuck with a vector based brush that doesn't work properly, or pen vector.
User avatar #59223 to #59222 - alleksi (08/08/2014) [-]
It's still a terrible brush. drawing with it feels bad. That's why I recommend TVPaint because you can pretty much have the same level of customizability with the brushes as you would with photoshop or SAI. Having more options is always better.
User avatar #59186 to #59179 - alleksi (08/07/2014) [-]
super simple stuff like easytoon and www.flipbook.in (a web-app) are free, but you're not going to find a proper animating software for free
#59183 to #59179 - anonymous (08/07/2014) [-]
Getting good software won't make it easy to animate. if you want to get good you're going to have to work.

Use flash as a starting point.
User avatar #59191 to #59183 - alleksi (08/07/2014) [-]

#59216 to #59191 - anonymous (08/08/2014) [-]
he said easy, animation isn't easy no matter that software you get. it's just a point.
User avatar #59220 to #59216 - alleksi (08/08/2014) [-]

Kinda stopped for a couple days after the last post, but I had another go at colouring.
Also tried a bit of shading. Coulda gone worse with the sharp shadows but the soft light, eh. I dunno. As far as first tries go, it could have been worse.
Not that anyone cares, but this was really just me messing around trying shit like lots of creases and whatnot.
It wasn't an attempt to make anything particularly amazing.

That's my justification for making a shit generic character and I'm bloody well sticking to it.
