Anyone know of any cheap drawing tablets that contain basic features of a drawing tablet? (pen with eraser, drivers, sensitivity slider).
User avatar #57118 to #57105 - citruslord ONLINE (06/26/2014) [-]
Actually, looking at some Huion stuff real quick, Huion and Monoprice use the same digitizers, so they should be similar. The drivers for each are different, so that ought to affect things.

Taken from a review on Huion products. Assuming windows.
"In Windows, be sure to install the drivers before plugging the tablet in. Windows has insidious default tablet drivers it will install otherwise. They don’t work well and you’ll swear there’s something wrong with your hardware. There isn’t. Deleting your HID stack in Device Manager is the only help here and even it may not work. You may have to reinstall a fresh copy of the OS. Additionally, in Windows 7 at least, disable Tablet PC services from the services menu. Uninstall Tablet PC components. Uncheck “Support Tablet PC Features” from the tablet driver icon in the system tray. Minimally, disable Pen Flicks. All of these things impact drawing performance. I haven’t tested any of these devices on Windows 8 as yet."

shit, i bought a huion and did that thing you said not to do. So there is no way to fix it then unless i reinstall my os?
User avatar #57135 to #57134 - citruslord ONLINE (06/27/2014) [-]
You ought to be able to go in, and if not through the windows default uninstall process, uninstall it by deleting the files manually.
What version of windows do you have?

If you're looking for cheap, do not buy wacom. They make a quality product, but they have a similar issue as apple with overpricing.
Monoprice is a brand I have heard only good things from. The only issue people ever really have with them is drivers on windows can be a bitch to get to work.
I recommend one of those two. You can also get them from Amazon. Some people have problems with the pens and report that buying a replacement one works better, so keep that in mind. But mac users generally hail that this brand has smoother and quicker tracking than wacom.
Interesting that you have problems with Huion. Have you made sure the drivers are working properly?
I'm actually looking at putting together a DIY cintiq Wacoms brand of tablet that has a built in screen , by buying on of those tablets and a used lcd, and a few wiring components, I should be able to do so for under $200. Far better than the cintiq pricing of 2k+

Yeah, normally wacom have small as shit models for that price range. You might be able to find some big tablets from monoprice for cheap but I don't really know all that much about them little alone if they're reliable or not.

I want one to draw with, obviously, I'd like it to be smooth, responsive, below $150 and without too many buttons. But there are so many of em.
User avatar #57152 to #57067 - citruslord ONLINE (06/27/2014) [-]
A couple days late, but I thought since I saw this I'd throw in what I've learned recently.
A couple companies make tablets as well as wacom, for much cheaper with very comparable quality. Huion and Monoprice are the two I know. I'm looking at Monoprice right now after owning a wacom for a while.
Both of those have highly favorable reviews on amazon and some places on DeviantArt. I'd suggest looking into it as an option as these tend to be about 60-70% cheaper than the equivalent Wacom. The only problem I've seen with these is that windows can have driver problems. You have to be careful to not let windows install it's own default drivers.
User avatar #57073 to #57067 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
Huh, I was certain you could get a medium wacom tablet for $150. Boy was I wrong.

Seriously? 300€ (that's 400 USD) for the latest wacom medium sized tablet!? What do they make them out of? diamonds?
User avatar #57076 to #57073 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]
It's a bit silly. But I suppose they could just be expensive to produce.
User avatar #57077 to #57076 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
yeah the ones I was looking at were wireless and had touch"screen" and whatnot
User avatar #57078 to #57077 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]
Wireless isn't really something I need, so that's not a problem.

Whaddya mean touch 'screen'? Like it was actually a screen with a display instead of the pad the others have?
User avatar #57079 to #57078 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
it doesn't have a display screen but you can like "swipe" the surface and it'll do some fancy shit or you can do that "pinch" thing you do on your phone and whatnot.
User avatar #57080 to #57079 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]
So, things that you don't particularly need.
User avatar #57091 to #57080 - blargtastic (06/25/2014) [-]
Actually, the finger commands are quite useful. I find that I use the two finger rotate and pinch zoom a lot whilst drawing with my tablets. I have since upgraded to the cintiq 24 HD Touch so it's actually VERY useful, even on smaller tablets.
User avatar #57104 to #57091 - adunsaveme (06/26/2014) [-]
They could be useful, but if it ups the price significantly, it's not that important to me.
I can do those things with the keyboard or the mouse. It's just a little bit slower.

Yeah. I have a tiny one. I bought my tablet like 7 years ago, and the model itself is probably even older.
User avatar #57075 to #57073 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
well nevermind, I think the "intuos pro" models are just expensive as fuck. even the small one is like $250
#57069 to #57067 - Nahyon ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
Ya nigga check this shit yo
Sick ass starter tablet, not much buttonz and white people shit, just the draw surface shit and a pen. most of the controlls and stuff are easily displayed at the installizzle and it can be instantly used. Shits perfectly made for normal and advanced drawing needs. 1024 preasure levels bitch, holla at this yo.

I had 3 Tablets yet, the first one went nuts after 3 or 4 months, dunno what lable it was again, something for 40 €. the second one was also a wacom bamboo ( different model ) and it lasted 3 years and now i own this one here and it felt comfortable from the first day.
about the smooth, you will find specific programms what might support your drawing experience. unfourtunatly i haven't used many so i can talk only about the wacom.
User avatar #57070 to #57069 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]

It looks... small. Does that affect much? I wouldn't know, but I would assume a bigger one would be slightly easier, somehow.
The only tablet I've used was a bamboo something or other. It was green, and around 30cm long. Hard to tell how big that one is.
User avatar #57083 to #57070 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
What I've noticed is that you can't do long strokes with your whole arm when using a small tablet. not being able to do long strokes can (but not necessarily) result in wibbly wobbly lines, which you can avoid by turning up the stabilizer in some softwares up to a thousand, which I'm not a fan of.

In a perfect world, your tablet would be the same size as your screen, so your pointer moves the exact same distance on the screen as you move your stylus on the tablet. having that 1:1 ratio makes it feel more natural. sadly this is only possible for those with a cintiq or a large tablet.

That said small tablets are still perfectly viable and it's just a matter of getting used to them. You can, and other people have, done great things with them. Kind of like Nahyon said, the tablet is just a tool and having some thousands of dollars expensive cintiq for your first tablet wont make you a better artist. The best option is always to start cheap and once you feel like you really want to get serious about it (and you're ready to be serious about it) then you can decide whether to invest a bunch more money into a bigger and fancier tablet.
User avatar #57085 to #57083 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]
Yeah, I won't go spending a whole lot when I'm really just starting out.

I want to get better. Over time, I might. Having a tablet will be nice.
User avatar #57087 to #57085 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
oh yeah and you can work around the whole "not being able to do long strokes" thing by zooming in a whole lot. Sure you'll be doing really small strokes on your screen, but at least they're all smooth and nice and schtuff
User avatar #57071 to #57070 - Nahyon ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
not at all! well, sure some people feel more comfortable with bigger tablets, some with smaller but in the end it has no affect on the drawing.
For example; if you feel like you don't have enough space to move your hand, you just zoom out of the drawing so you don't have to move much anymore, some for the opposite. The tablet itslef is simply the object, the tool, everything else can and will be set in the programm you might use.
movement, pen smooth, blendings, mouse speed and probably other thing i've never heard of can be adjusted in the programm you use, anything else depends on you ^^
User avatar #57074 to #57071 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]
Also the pen that comes with it, does it have the eraser on the end?
User avatar #57084 to #57074 - alleksi ONLINE (06/25/2014) [-]
It most likely does, but I've found the eraser tip to be a bit useless, it's much faster to just press "e" on your keyboard. And you can't really customize your eraser while you're using the eraser tip.
User avatar #57072 to #57071 - adunsaveme (06/25/2014) [-]
