Art does require a lot of practice. It seems like you're taking the 3D renderring route. x) Which requires practice too. It's something I'm currently unable to do

I used to go to art classes after school 3 years ago
I ended up quitting after a year and burning my sketchbook in the backyard (Around 60 pages of drawings, sketches and furshit) because my drawings were on many levels of horrible
#60183 to #60182 - groulgarigon ONLINE (08/25/2014) [-]
That's okay. Many a time I've made the canvas I was working on a permanent part of the drywall because I wouldn't get something right. It happens. It's all a matter of wether the frustration is worth it to you or not.
User avatar #60186 to #60183 - fjponythread (08/25/2014) [-]
Also I tried web page designing
It ended up with me creating a mathematical paradox
#60184 to #60183 - fjponythread (08/25/2014) [-]
I don't think that the frustration was worth it
Basically everything I touch turns into a turd or failure and many hours of frustration
I tried drawing, I tried Machinima making, I tried music composing, I tried playing music, I tried singing, I tried drawing with a tablet (WACOM Bamboo Pen), I tried many things
Everything turned into a failure even when I gave it 1-2 months of training and trying over and over again
#60185 to #60184 - groulgarigon ONLINE (08/25/2014) [-]
Well only two months I can guarantee won't get you very far. I've been drawing for close to 18 years now and I'm still just learning the basics. xD It will take time but you will improve if you decide to stick with it. But if you don't want to, then that's okay too. Find something you will love and stick with it.

Some people are more aversed to learning certain things. But in reality anything anyone else can do is something that can be learned and eventually done yourself.
User avatar #58379 to #58375 - arialynx (07/22/2014) [-]
That's amazing. I'm just going to assume you use Photoshop, sorry if I'm wrong, but how do you shade like that?
#58380 to #58379 - groulgarigon ONLINE (07/22/2014) [-]
This one's no big secret. I only used one layer and there were no shortcuts in the getting to of this point. x) Just sat down and photoshopped for 3 hours. Had lots of reference, lots of coffee, and the characters that I was to draw in front of me. x)
User avatar #58381 to #58380 - arialynx (07/22/2014) [-]
Very impressive. Did you change the opacity or mode of your brush at all?
#58382 to #58381 - groulgarigon ONLINE (07/22/2014) [-]
Typically the only thing I wind up changing is the flow of my brush which controls how much pigment comes out at once. I never change the mode of my brush because it's incompatible with my drawing style. x) Multiply tends to burn my pictures too dark and color dodge adds unsightly contrast.
User avatar #58383 to #58382 - arialynx (07/22/2014) [-]
Cool, thanks for the tips.
#58384 to #58383 - groulgarigon ONLINE (07/22/2014) [-]
I also recommend having a 50% grey back layer so your sense of value isn't thrown off by that horrible white color and that you get your darkest darks down first so it gives the entire picture a consistent perspective value wise!

need some minor assistance, simple lines as an example yo

I need to make that grey bit seem like a sort of thin cloth, going over the legs

How the fuck?
#58372 to #58359 - anonymous (07/22/2014) [-]
Just draw tons of creases but stay close to the form of the leg, have a lot of downward creases so it doesn't seem to stiff at all.
User avatar #58368 to #58359 - citruslord ONLINE (07/22/2014) [-]
Like, you want the cloth to be slightly transparent?
If that's the case, shade the legs and the cloth normally on two separate layers, then set the cloth over the legs on overlay, hard/soft light, multiply. Something along those lines then knock down the opacity to taste.
User avatar #58385 to #58368 - adunsaveme (07/22/2014) [-]
Thin as in really light, sinks into corners real easily, like silk

User avatar #58349 to #58348 - adunsaveme (07/22/2014) [-]
like, accept commissions or commission people?
fiver seems to be popular, though that seems a bit more professional.
I think you might be able to sort some out on deviantart, though it might require a bit of manual sorting out, with private messaging and some paypal action.
User avatar #58350 to #58349 - thegrohltroll (07/22/2014) [-]
Accept commissions, and i won't have to worry about payment because it'll be free. There should be a site where people request stuff and artists pick the requests they like
User avatar #58351 to #58350 - adunsaveme (07/22/2014) [-]
Yeah, that'd be a nice idea.

But general art hosting sites should suffice as places that you can just let people know you're accepting commissions.

Or hell, even Tumblr works well.

User avatar #58371 to #58346 - nickypickle (07/22/2014) [-]
they're in a cave. im trying to make this scene look as if it was the olden times, but also sci-fi esque. they're cousins, and they're wearing regular sewn cloth. I can get textures to set on right but im trying to make it a little bit more detailed besides the shading around the clothes, like the shape of the clothes. Do you have any references or examples?

#58334 to #58333 - anonymous (07/22/2014) [-]
If you believe coloring or drawing a day will improve your artwork it won't unless you have compassion to do so. Just saying but it looks like you just rushed it without trying to add value. Sorry if I did come out rude but even in the art world everyone is a critic.
User avatar #58353 to #58334 - alleksi (07/22/2014) [-]
oh yeah I know that.

The point was that because I've only been drawing for a bit over a week now, drawing is not yet a habit for me so I have to force it into my daily routine. Whenever you start a new hobby, you gotta force yourself to do it for at least the first two weeks in order for it to become a natural part of your daily routine.

That's why it was pointlessly rushed. It was 4 in the morning and I realized that I hadn't drawn anything that day so I had to do something.
#58354 to #58353 - alleksi (07/22/2014) [-]
To add, that is also the point of these sketches that I've been doing (almost) daily.

They're the kind of low effort but fun to do type of drawings to help me ease into it.

I don't want to jump straight into studies and so on because those are not fun. Or do complete illustrations because they take too long. I've been lurking art boards and forums for so long now and I know exactly what happens when beginners overwhelm themselves with all that shit. I'd rather have fun for the first month before I get really serious.
