High demand of marijuana in US leads to -> a lot of arrestations which leads to -> lot of underpaid workers in jail.
Plus, since it is illegal, price is higher which means government can get more profit if they decide to sell secretely.

I thought it was banned due to timber companies losing money to hemp products. So the timber companies got it banned with propaganda and such.

NO. Stop that bullshit, yeah maybe it's not as bad for you as people think BUT IT'S STILL BAD FOR YOU. Stop that harmless bullshit. It fucks up your immune system, can cause short term memory loss, etc. So even if it's legalized, you CAN'T say it's harmless.
Dude, with all the shit we have in our lives, everything (even air) causes cancer or kills you and everything we ever touch seems to have a warning that says HARMFUL (especially in cities). I don't smoke, but as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't even fucking matter whether it has harmful effects or not.

It can cause short term memory loss while you're high. It can also mess up your immune system. I smoked for about 2 years straight and as soon as I stopped I began to cough up gray/dark brown tar. Googled it and apparently it's caused by the cilia in your lungs regrowing and kicking out all the nasty shit. Does marijuana cause lung cancer? No. Does the marijuana itself harm your lungs? No. Does the smoke/lighter fluid inhalation harm your lungs? Probably. But then again after I finished coughing up the shit there was no shortness of breath/cough and I felt perfectly normal. So I'm not really sure. But I know if I smoke again it's going to be through a vaporizer. No, it's not harmless. It is still less harmful than tobacco/alcohol though and it should be legalized.

In the early 20th century, hemp farmers were making a lot of money. So much so that in fact it scared the giant cigarette companies of Virginia and Maryland. After appealing to their congressmen, the FDA banned marijuana's production, sale, and consumption. Or we could make an internet comic designed to confuse people. Either or is ok.

Actually, marijuana has almost four times as much tar than a ciggarette. I support it being legal and all, but at least be honest. It's bad for you, just like all drugs are, including cigarrettes.

not completely sure if your statement on tar is correct, but seeing as comparing the joint<cigarette ratio then the tar amounts would mean squat. also, if you're gathering your information from a source provided by the same people who want marijuana to stay illegal, then wouldn't be just the weirdest coincidence if they overegaggerated their claims?
I think people just make up random shit sometimes about why cannabis is illegal. I'm not completely sure about why the prohibition started, but the reason it's continuing is because of the ties the pharmaceutical companies have with the FDA and the DEA. It's all just bureaucracy and backdoor deals and corrupt politicians. Ron Paul 2012 to stop the greed, corruption and lies.
It was originally made illegal because of propaganda made by the lumber companies. They realized that if it were legal and if companies started making paper out of it they would lose a ton of money. So they started a propaganda campaign. There was actually one man who testified in court that after smoking marijuana he sprouted wings and grew fangs and quickly developed a thirst for blood, lol.
weed was only made illegal because an Egyptian government wanted to win an election when the international treaty on the misuse of drugs was being written up, they added it as the last minute because their opposition were involved with weed

Well. How much can you sell an ounce of weed for?
How much is the ticket for possessing an ounce of weed?

Another reason would be that it is hard to regulate it because it can be grown anywhere by anyone. Why would people need to buy it from farms if they can plant it themselves cheaply?

actually, it's mainly due to this asshole who was the head of the narcotics department, he knew that cocaine and heroin were not gonna be a big enough problem for him to make a name for himself so he wanted to get weed classified as a narcotic(it's not, by definition, a narcotic, so this is a lie) he had a buddy who ran a newspaper company, who also owned tree land for paper to print his papers, and hemp makes more paper per acre then trees do, and it stood to shut down that buisiness, so he printed a shitload of fake stories about kids smoking just one joint, then murding their family in their sleep with an axe, then he went in front of congress with a newspaper clipping, while the head of the medical assosciation stood there with mountains of scientific data, saying it was not only relatively harmless but also had amazing medical benifits, and congress said, but hurr durr, the news says it so it must be true! GTFO science!
You DO know what that face means, right?
It means "this is an asshole. anything posted with this picture is an example of what an asshole would say." All of that. A picture's worth a thousand words. Or like 18 I guess.
