For all of you who are arguing about religion, STFU and GTFO. This is FunnyJunk not some online faith chat. No one here really cares what you have to say about your religion, we just like to watch you argue constantly about **** that shouldn't even matter to you. Look at the website your arguing on and tell me if it has any real values. We are not here to bitch about religion, we are here to see the funny!

This is what I don't get about funnyjunk!

Some weeks ago there were a post that claimed that not all Muslims are terrorists and that most are nice, and when people tried to talk about Islam and many of the bad laws and rules it have, they were getting negative thumbs and were getting **** at thrown at them.
The Bible on the other hand, is totally fine to judge and hate!

I think it's stupid that you can hate one thing, but say you like the other.
Either you have to be able to be allowed to be criticising all Religion or none. And you'll get to defend them, but you have to let people criticise it and not create a **** storm!

tl;dr It's unfair that you can criticise the Bible and Christians as much as you want, but not Islam or Muslims.

I'm not gonna get into an argument about this **** , but most of the quotes and such that people take out of the bible and such, are taken grossly out of context. Usually, people will take them at face value, like the people who quoted it intended, and rarely do people ever read the context that the quote was in, which usually drastically changes the meaning of the quote.

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

BUT NO YOU'RE RIGHT THOSE ARE TAKEN WAY OUT OF CONTEXT

I'm not even going to get into this. I admit to not knowing even a small portion of what the bible says exactly, but frankly, yes, you're quoting single verses, therefore, out of context. Do you even know what context means little anon? "Context: The parts of something written or spoken that immediately precede and follow a word or passage and clarify its meaning." If you don't believe me, type define: context into google, it's the second definition. That is all I have to say.

Indeed, the bible is misquoted by many people, christians and non-christians alike, I was just stating a simple fact. Take for example the verses that the WBC uses to show that god hates. Read the chapter that they are in, and you'll be able to start seeing beyond just one quoted verse, and instead see the bigger picture. But that's just my take on it, don't take all this as gospel, this is just as I understand it, if you have something that explains it better, do tell.

What about Job, a 'god' that is tricked to punish his most devout follower.
User avatar #1128 to #1112 - basshead (03/19/2012) [-]
"Tricked to punish his most devout follower..." Oh where do I begin. First thing, there was no getting tricked. God allowed satan to test job, to prove to him the power of faith, note chapter 1 verse 12: "The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." This shows that God does care about Job, as he prevents Satan from hurting Job himself. Yes, when you look at it at face value, that God allows one of his most devout followers to be stricken by a plague of terrible things, and nearly put through a living hell, it doesn't make God seem very kind. But when you look at it from the perspective of many other things in the bible, as a lesson, it shows to Job, and to anybody else reading it, the power that faith can have. God uses Job to teach Eliphaz the Temanite, and rewards Job even more in the latter part of his life than the first(Job 42:12-17).

Sorry for a poor choice of words, but if you let the person you love get hurt, physically or mentally. Just to show them how much he loves you, that is just narcissistic.
I see the bible or any other 'holy' book, just as books. Some are horribly written, over the top and dramatic, while others can be viewed as beautiful poetry. But to let your moral compas to guide you by a book is just silly...

If you want to put things into perspective...a fetus is nothing more than a parasite. It feeds off the woman and is close to a tumor.

I'm agnostic. I don't bash people for their beliefs, nor do I think they should bash me for mine, if I keep my mouth shut. Can't we all just get along? (apparently not)
#1103 to #1026 - fefe (03/19/2012) [-]
I'm a passive atheist. If other people want to believe in a God, then that's fine by me.

The problem is that just having one person raising his/her voice over religion will unleash a thunderstorm of flames. Everyone is so occupied by believing in something (including nothing - atheists) that they forget that they're actually trying to do the same: become a better person.
You can say that we're failing horribly at it...
User avatar #1059 to #1026 - bloodyspy (03/19/2012) [-]
If you're agnostic, you're not supposed to have ant specific beliefs. The whole point of being agnostic is to be uncertain or not caring.
