No, I think the joke is in the same vein as anti-humor. The comedy lies in the fact that there is no punchline. The setup is there, but a mockery is made of it by the lack of any snappy follow-up.
If it is about philosophy, then it's not really a joke. Try to ignore the fact that you've never thought of the joke in the way this post describes, wait for your mind to recover from being blown and then think about its actual merits as a joke. If progression to the afterlife is supposed to be the punchline, then there's really no comedy in it and it's a terrible joke.
This is the same as jokes like: "What did the orphan get for Christmas? Nothing." The joke has no punchline, and the absurdity of it is what makes it funny.
