According to many, I am an idiot for believing in God. Oh well, at least I am happy. That is all that will really matter in the end. Did you live a happy life, or a sad life? If Atheism makes you happy, keeping Atheing on, if Christianity make you happy keep Christin on. Same goes for everything else. But I guarantee you, if you are the type who deliberately insults other religions openly to people(without a shred of decency of saying it in private), you are not happy and you might want to rethink your views.

I'm atheist and I think there is absolutely nothing wrong, crazy, or limiting about believing in any specific or unspecific kind of supernatural order. The only reason that I am atheist is that it simply doesn't seem to me, personally, that there is any reason to think there is any such thing. What matters is how you express what you believe; if you hate and kill people who don't agree with you, that's always bad; if you are willing to put your differences aside to help others, that's always good.
User avatar #549 to #544 - eight (01/06/2012) [-]
Could not have said it better myself.
#498 to #456 - anonymous (01/06/2012) [-]
Through the eyes of a christian........

I'm atheist and happy while laughing at your ******* crazy views. What you're basically saying is that if PersonA says, "The earth is flat" and PersonB says, "Whoa whoa you're a ******* idiot, look at all this evidence and **** to the contrary" that personB is a unhappy person.

Sorry, just ain't so.
User avatar #546 to #498 - eight (01/06/2012) [-]
There is nothing wrong with having a discussion, it is when you leave peace aside and begin to insult them that breaks the boundaries of respect. Facts don't lie, the sooner we all accept them the better, however if a person truly believes the world is flat because his or her religion deems it so, that is when you might want to avoid telling him or her that he or she is wrong. Religion is very brittle, very delicate. If you want to avoid death and war, be nice, and respectful. That in itself is fact.
#506 to #498 - leiot (01/06/2012) [-]
Why the **** not...? So what if you did still believe the Earth to be flat? You're not hurting anyone. And as for proof, it often depends on what you consider proof to be. Good sir, it sounds to me like you're just doing your best to **** all over a perfectly rational viewpoint...

unfortunately you're religion has a massive history of human rights violations.

But I guess that all depends on what you consider to be human rights....right?
User avatar #533 to #516 - eight (01/06/2012) [-]
Because Atheists are never mass murderers, commit genocide or any other terrible deed imaginable. You seem to imply that a human who believes in a religion becomes a superior yet unstable being, easily corrupted by all forces and impossible to reason with. The truth is that it is simply human nature in general.
#552 to #516 - leiot (01/06/2012) [-]
Humans have a history of human rights violations. There are people in this world who only seek to corrupt what others hold sacred. It doesn't matter whether it's religion, politics, science, ideals; there are people who are going to twist it into a tool of destruction and oppression. That doesn't mean that the core belief itself is wrong, it means the person doing their best to bastardize it for their own gain is wrong.
And just like there are corrupt people of faith, there are also corrupt people who use Atheism as a tool to make themselves seem superior over others...
#550 to #498 - anonymous (01/06/2012) [-]

Today i was talking to my Dad about religion. He grew up going to a Catholic school, and was very religious, but has lightened up since me and my sister were born and he has been preoccupied with the family. I, as a child, never really went to church. My sister and i are both Lutheran, still Christian but a lot less strict I guess you could say. Well my sister and my father got in an argument because she believed that there was a Jesus, but that he never rose from the dead. I have similar views since i think more realistically than anyone in my family, but i kept to myself. My dad's only rebuttal to her my sister was this:

"You not believing in God makes me very disappointed. If that is how you feel then I will never get to see you in the afterlife."

And this got me thinking... i love my father very much, and what if there is an afterlife and i could spend all the time i wanted with him? But i was never religious, and i still find religion very difficult to believe in. And what if he makes it into "Heaven" and he is just waiting for his family to show up... and they never do. I don't care if this gets pinkieed down, but it really made me think.

You don't believe in science. You KNOW the temperature at which water boils, you KNOW how cold Pluto is, you KNOW that if you keep eating food with high fat contents your arteries will clog and give you an eventual heart attack.

Science isn't beliefs. It's FACTS.

And if, perchance, something comes along that refutes science, proves it point with evidence, then science will accept that new evidence as correct.

*I didn't post second anon comment

And if you actually READ my comment, you would've seen "Science isn't beliefs. It's FACTS." Unfortunately, your post said you "believe" in science. What you MEANT to say was that you know the many great things that science has provided for mankind and will BELIEVE that it WILL provide the answer for everything, eventually.

Yes. Mean what you say, not what you want to say or want to mean.

Beliefs. Facts. Don't confuse the two.

Please... Atheists, stop being preachers of atheism. You're entitled to your own opinion, great! And I have no problem when you share your opinions... when asked.

Same to you as well, fellow Christians, or heck, ANYONE of any religion or lack thereof. Being rude and annoying doesn't glorify your cause. "OMGZ IM RIGHT YOU FING MORON! MY (insert religious standing here) IS THE BEST AND YOU SHOULD CONVERT NOW BECAUSE I SAW SO" doesn't work.
#782 to #763 - anonymous (01/06/2012) [-]
That's not the full picture here.
I "preach" atheism because of what's wrong with this country. I don't like it and think it should be stopped.
Take Woman's suffrage for example -- it's the same exact problem atheists face in society, just on different terms.

Atheists are discriminated against and the religious fat-cats control the government. Don't tell them to be quiet when almost all of the world is against us and treat us unfairly.

#823 to #782 - Mahnster (01/06/2012) [-]
Please don't misunderstand, I have absolutely nothing against atheists. I have several friends who are. The ones I know are great people! I do hate the discrimination that they may face. I also hate any form of discrimination.

It is simply when atheism or other religions are being pressed on others or on me. It usually just annoys people, and gives bad impressions about the cause.

I for one am Atheist, but I don't go around just bashing people for the hell of it. When someone tries to shove their religious ******** down my throat, then yes, I will become a bit more bold about my beliefs. It just so happens that the only people who whip their religious dick out and shove it down my throat are Christians. But if a Jew tries to do the same, you can believe I'll say the same things to them.
#633 to #606 - anonymous (01/06/2012) [-]
ya know ill be honest this has actually never once happened to me. I have had people invite me to church and all i say is simply "no thank you" and we go our separate ways. i've never once had a christian personally come to me and be all "REPENT SINNER ETERNAL HELLFIRE etc." There are a few that have tried to share with me their beliefs because the bible tells them to and i cant blame them for obeying the very thing they believe to be the word of god, but none of them have ever been hostile or forceful.

I thought you guys get all upset when a little religion is shoved in your face, but yet you cant stop shoving your belief into our faces. Is it because its science and you are trying to enlighten us? Heres a lesson from the bible, treat others as you would like to be treated.

Well, I do it for the sheer enjoyment of debate. Honestly, I have no desire to "enlighten" others. Not really my thing. We both know we will never convince the other that our opinion is right. That's fun in faith!

However.

I do love to poke fun at things. And I find these debates to be a great source of entertainment.

People decided we should have a varied education, so a while back they tried to tech the bible in schoold for a year. I was in the 5th grade. After just 3 lessons of reading how it's OK to give your daughter to a group of men who want to rape he in order to save total strangers, or how seeing a burning bush means you should kill your son I decided that I'm becomeing an atheist.
#921 - misterhavoc (01/06/2012) [-]
I don't like how people say "This group kills for because of so-and-so!" Humans are the only known race that kills for concepts. Whether it be religion, liberty, freedom, communism, revenge, honor, bands, or the potential supply of Air Jordans, humans will fight and kill over ideals that don't really matter to our immediate survival (ok, Air Jordans are a must). We will always find an excuse to kill one another, and it's not exclusive to one group.

Faith is claiming to know something without any actual proof or evidence. Which means your always wrong with faith, even if what your saying you know is right you were still full of **** . It is impossible to know anything without evidence so to say otherwise is a fallacy. If I say I know for a fact that there is a box in the next room having read so in a book and having been told by others that there is a box I would be lying whether there is a box or not because I never went into the room and observed the box. The existence of the box is irrelevant. In all technicality you can't know ANYTHING 100% . The only thing that anyone can "know" for sure is that they can't know anything for sure, as socrates once said "I know that I know nothing"
User avatar #691 to #681 - ProWig ONLINE (01/06/2012) [-]
Religion is not about being right
It's about believing
Sure some corrupt dicks with cram it down your throat but they "know nothing of what they know"

You have to understand that i am completely agreeing with you.
Your believe in what you know
Some believe in what they know
You may refuse to believe others
and that's fine
just don't let anyone **** with your beliefs
because your always right
they are always right
It's Religion
Not Science

User avatar #711 to #691 - tinglyturtletaint (01/06/2012) [-]
Belief is not faith your heading off topic, I'm not arguing what religion is right or wrong and I'm not saying religion isn't about BELIEF but "faith" specifically is ignorance incarnate, belief is what you have concluded based on the information you've gathered and speculation, faith is blindly claiming to "know" with absolute certainty and 0 room for error that you are right. most religions don't preach faith by the way, only the sticter monotheistic religions. Christianity says you can't go to heaven without faith even if your a good person which is **** . and I'm not insulting the god there I'm insulting the idiots who manipulated those religions over time, constantine and the catholic church made that religions their personal play thing a long time ago so if there was any truth to it at first I'm sure Jaweh is pissed at how it turned out. all 3 of them islam, judiasm, and christianity they are all just different interpretations of the same damn thing.

User avatar #670 to #665 - ProWig ONLINE (01/06/2012) [-]
What your saying is some what true
Your blinded by your own faith
you refuse to see that Science are Religion are two different things
You cant be mad at ice for not being as hot as fire.
You cant hate religion for not having facts and proof
it's Religion
not Science
User avatar #694 to #670 - msvegeta (01/06/2012) [-]
But when religion and science become incompatible, one must choose. For example- where is the logic in the earth being able to repopulate itself after Noah's ark? There were only two of each population left. That's not enough to revive a species. In addition, a man in the sky? That violates physics. So you see, they aren't completely seperate. You must choose one or the other, because they violate eachother.
User avatar #703 to #694 - ProWig ONLINE (01/06/2012) [-]
I beleive you understand
But Religion has no logic or facts,
It's Faith, not Knowledge

I'm not some crazy Jesus freak
just one who has seen it all.
tbh i don't know my self what i believe
Just still waiting.
User avatar #721 to #703 - tinglyturtletaint (01/06/2012) [-]
actually your wrong religion is not faith just the few big ones. Buddhism teaches freethought which instructs that you question everything and never make an observation or opinion based on dogma, tradition, taboo, social norms and things like that but instead on pure logic, even to question the religion itself for "It is wrong always, everywhere, and for anyone, to believe anything upon insufficient evidence."
User avatar #689 to #670 - tinglyturtletaint (01/06/2012) [-]
I'm not arguing religion and science with you, you boob. I'm arguing the relevance of faith at all, you can believe in something with all your heart but you still do not know it's true for sure even if you "feel" it. I'm an agnostic relativist I have no religious affiliation because the existence of the gods doesn't matter, the thing that does matter is the philosophies and teachings of those religions because those are tangible and real. I have no interest in debating whether a god or man made these philosophies.

You know what? I'm ******* tired of being so damned respectful of all religions/beliefs (particularly Atheism), despite the fact that they act like I'm mentally retarded the moment I casually mention the fact that I am a Christian.
I have never forced my views down anyone's throat, I do not believe all scientists are going to hell, I do not disbelieve in scientific evidence when it comes to the way our universe was formed (it never says the way God created our universe, only that he created it, thus I believe in the big bang), I do not think homosexuals are vile, evil beings, I don't think if someone sins they're automatically going to hell (being that I believe that Jesus died for our sins), and so forth.
And why is it that Atheists always make me feel like a mindless sheep when I admit that I believe in God? I chose my religion on my own, after researching other religions and beliefs.
And since it is apparently perfectly fine to make fun of me just because of my religion, I think it is insanely arrogant of anyone to think that anything beyond their comprehension could not possibly exist.
Our universe is huge and bizarre; our petty "laws" can and have been broken by things that we have proof of. Not only that, but we have explored very little of our own galaxy, which is in turn small compared to the billions and billions of other galaxies in our universe, so who knows what else could be out there? Who knows what is possible? We may be the smartest beings on our own tiny planet, but we will never understand the way EVERYTHING works, including the entire universe, the way God works, and so forth.
We are not all-knowing, we are just human beings. I mean, we murder each other over who gets to stick their dick in another human or who has the most pieces of green paper, which is used to buy things we don't even remotely need. We are ridiculous and illogical, Atheists included.
And so, why should we decide what is too "weird" or "stupid" to be true?
