wait
so if we get nuked
and some cockroaches live
and nobody is there to squish them and such
will they start to evolve and adapt?
and eventually bring about another existence of humans?

The more simple an organism is, the more likely it is to survive because they can tolerate higher doses of rads.
Most insects will survive the fallout, depending on proximity to explosion and whether or not the resulting explosion's shockwave hit them with enough pressure/force.
Within a set radius, the explosion is as hot as the sun (Nuclear fusion releases energy the same way in the sun) and will be vaporized. No ashes, just charred earth and rocks formed from pressure.

tl:dr Most insect will live, and some longer than the roach.
#169 to #44 - anonymous (08/01/2011) [-]
I don't want to be pricky but:
Simple must be equal in (which it isn't): amount of cells divided. So it really isn't being a "simple" organism. If humans were like they are now, only they never ever divide/generate cells. Humans too would survive the nuclear fallout. however; mammals are constantly busy with dividing cells, on the contrary insects mostly divide their cells in certain periods and so are less likely to get hit by a fallout during a cell split.
And the sun uses nuclear fussion while atomic bombs just "simply" split atoms (the principle is the same: converting mass to energy) but the process is different.
Fact: Wasps are more likely to survive the explosion than a roach, wouldn't that be a fun little world: A planet filled with insects, mostly wasps? Sounds like heaven for me -.-'
#201 to #169 - tablespoons (08/01/2011) [-]
Alien roaches visited and gave earth roaches immunity
Because of Blue Eyes White Dragon

Anyways, anon, your response was correct, but worded awkwardly
Everyone else: basically, gamma radiation attacks you on a genetic level, mostly attacking your fastest reproducing cells (more inclined to damage when splitting DNA) hurting more complex organisms harder.

By complex and simple, I mean the diversity of cells that are pivotal to life.
Insects, jellyfish, and bacteria have little important structures to kill

i really hope you're trying to be a llort, because a nuclear explsoion disintegrates **** .... and if you think a cockroach could survive that i fear for your future.

do your saying that a cockroach could be killed by being smashed by the bomb, but the actual force of the atom splitting and all the energy wouldn't leave a scratch. k

what ? are your reading what i'm writing ?
#49 to #42 - Odesius (08/01/2011) [-]
Insects could potentially survive the nuclear fallout, or the radiation if you prefer. They would not, however, survive the blast itself.
User avatar #43 to #42 - imnotanig (08/01/2011) [-]
yeah and you're saying the cockroach could survive the EXPLOSION

User avatar #12 - reginalde (08/01/2011) [-]
Just figure I'd say this now.
Cockroaches can't survive nuclear explosions. They'll die just like any other creature. However, some cockroaches will hide in small cracks that the radiation can't reach, therefore allowing them to survive.
User avatar #31 to #12 - bobofboblandia (08/01/2011) [-]
they can survive the radiation from a nuke but they cant survive the initial explosion nothing can it incinerates everything you get turned into ash and then ashes get turned into ashes of ashes.
#74 to #31 - anonymous (08/01/2011) [-]
#16 to #12 - akamu (08/01/2011) [-]
No they can survive much higher amounts of radiation than other animals especially humans, but that is only the aftermath nothing will survive the blast
