Dear vegatarians,

Yours sincerly, meat
#101 to #78 - JesusForReal (06/25/2011) [-]
I'm a red meat vegetarian, just dislike eating anything relatively intelligent :/. I don't force my views on other people though, quite frankly people like PETA are insane.
#82 to #78 - negativeone (06/25/2011) [-]
Vegetarians receive more energy since they eat plants which are a more direct source of the sun's rays which create protein through photosynthesis. In order to obtain the same amount of energy from meat as plants one must consume up to 5 times as much meat. (I learned too much in school.)
User avatar #94 to #82 - MuffinMan ONLINE (06/25/2011) [-]
They have the same amounts of energy, meat is just way less efficient to make.
User avatar #89 to #82 - arceuss (06/25/2011) [-]
Ok i'm this is not an arguement, it is a staement:
1. I said protien deficiency, not energy deficiency
2. you get roughly the same amount of energy from both (grain is an exception) even though plants get energy from the sun, it just means that animal had to eat a lot of plant to get the same amount.
3. you lose energy from eating: watermelon, broccoli, and celery
User avatar #91 to #89 - negativeone (06/25/2011) [-]
For number 1, proteins provide energy.
User avatar #87 to #82 - TotalNiggaBullshit (06/25/2011) [-]
Only that's completely wrong. Plants have more energy, yes. But that has nothing to do with nutrition or protein. Only one plant can actually provide complete protein, the soy bean, and since a lot of vegetarians are doing it because it's "sooo sad" what they do to animals, and aren't actually doing it as a lifestyle change, most never even touch soy. Those that eat soy should have enough protein though.
#255 to #87 - nezaro (06/25/2011) [-]
What? I'm a vegetarian and I eat soy, and I have never met a vegetarian that didn't eat soy. I know I will get negative thumbs because people on FunnyJunk or any site with thumbs follow the sheep instinct and thumb down one side of an argument on a thread. Just trying to calmly make a point.
User avatar #271 to #255 - TotalNiggaBullshit (06/26/2011) [-]
I know, I wasn't talking about real vegetarians. I was talking about 16 year old girls who think meat is murder so they have to be vegetarian, but usually just eat junk instead. I wasn't talking about those for which it is a lifestyle, I was just talking about people who do it as a fad.
User avatar #93 to #87 - NinjaHermit (06/25/2011) [-]
But there's plenty of other stuff that has protein. Beans/lentils, brown rice, peanut butter, hummus, almonds, broccoli, potatoes, parsley, milk, etc.

Assuming you have a proper variety in your diet, and ideally a person should regardless of whether they eat meat of not, it's not all that hard to get all the essential amino acids.
User avatar #114 to #93 - TotalNiggaBullshit (06/25/2011) [-]
sure, those have some protein, but it's incomplete. There are some proteins the body can't make, and soy is the only non-meat that provides all of those. Even eating all the things you mentioned, you'd still be deficient in certain proteins if you didn't eat soy.
User avatar #118 to #114 - NinjaHermit (06/25/2011) [-]
And I just noticed. Milk, which I listed, does have all the essential amino acids.
User avatar #123 to #118 - TotalNiggaBullshit (06/25/2011) [-]
I apologize, I don't think milk was being considered when I read that soy was necessary. I also looked it up just now, coming to the realization that my whole argument was on the authority of a decade old health book that also expressly claimed that marijuana caused more lung cancer than cigarettes. Apparently you can be a vegetarian without soy. I think maybe it's just that soy is the only one with all of them together in one plant, but like you said, you could also just balance several plants.
User avatar #181 to #123 - NinjaHermit (06/25/2011) [-]
Heh, it's cool.
User avatar #117 to #114 - NinjaHermit (06/25/2011) [-]
Heh. Well, good thing I do eat meat then.

I'm what you might call a "semi-vegetarian", in that the bulk of my diet is vegetables, fruits, and dairy (except eggs, which I just personally dislike), but I do eat meat occasionally.
User avatar #131 to #117 - TotalNiggaBullshit (06/25/2011) [-]
Lol, I'm the exact opposite. My diet is made up mostly of meat, and I definitely prefer eggs, I can't stand milk (though that's probably due to having lactose-intolerance as a child). Honestly the only plant I eat regularly is potatoes. And not just in french fries, I mean all the kinds of potato. *Narrated by Bubba from Forest Gump* Baked potatoes, fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, potato-bowl chili, potato pancakes, potato chips, roast potato... uh.... I think that's about it. But I'm Irish so it's in my genes.
User avatar #174 to #131 - NinjaHermit (06/25/2011) [-]
I dunno what it is with eggs, but I just can't stand 'em. Even the smell of them makes me wanna puke. I kid you not, my mom couldn't stand eggs when she was pregnant with me, and she normally likes them.
But potatoes... that's a different story entirely. I'm with you all the way there. Potatoes are ******* delicious.

As if I haven't heard that one before. Please take note that vegetarians live in the exact same world as you and grew up eating meat just as you did, but due to THINKING about our actions made the choice to stop and switch to the murder free lifestyle. Please do some research before you give me a counter argument, I would like one that I haven't heard before and that actually makes me consider a murder diet again. Please don't (and just do a little google searching to figure out why these are wrong if you need to but if you can't figure it out even then I will explain it as I figured it out and have said a 1000 times before) Tell me that tomatoes and cows feel the same amount of pain. Animals would would over populate if not force multiplied to be killed. That a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle is unhealthy. That is tastes too good to stop murdering.

Allow me to explain why I find your first argument flawed. In the beginning, we needed to eat meat to survive, just as male neanderthals needed to bash women over the skulls and rape them to impregnate them and spread their seed to ensure that there would be a next generation (as we already can see, neanderthals are not great character references). However, as our species has evolved the need for such barbaric practices has become outdated. It is OUR NATURE to evolve and make our society a more open environment for all, as we no longer rape as a regular practice, as we no longer call blacks 1/3 of a human being, as we no longer burn "witches" what is against evolution and nature is resisting the change for a better world. We here in the US and the UK have created enough food supply to survive just fine without force breeding millions of heads of livestock (the grain and water used wasted on feeding them could be used to feed millions of people starving to death in the third world) I acknowledge that in certain parts of the world it is necessary to eat meat, where people are dying from hunger.

So humans have developed a more efficient means of acquiring meat. Well, what do you expect? It's in our nature to want to eat meat. We don't do it because we're sick ***** who slaughter and eat animals just for amusement, we do it because it's natural for us. Unlike you, I'm not so silly as to be ashamed that I like the taste of meat, nor will I ever stop eating it.
#273 to #272 - sparkieemae (06/26/2011) [-]
As I said and I will say again it is in our nature to EVOLVE and grow past these things that HURT OTHERS when it is NOT NESISARY.

More efficient? Hardly. 30% of the worlds land mass is used to grow feed crops; 2.9 million acres of rainforest was cleared in 2004 and 2005 to grow crops for chickens 260 MILLION ACRES JUST IN THE UNITED STATES NOW (there are an estimated 100 million people without homes, 1 billion without adequate housing). 70% of the grain we grow in the US goes to farmed animals, it takes up to 16 pounds of grain just to produce ONE pound of flesh. (16000, children NOT ADULTS die daily worldwide do to HUNGER, that's 584,000 A YEAR the food that went to feed YOUR STEAK COULD HAVE FED THEM) It takes 2400 gallons of water to produce one pound of meat. (Almost 1 billion people on the planet don't have access to clean drinking water YOUR STEAK COULD HAVE WATERED THEM. Keep in mind cows are two thousand pound animals.) What do we get from animal products? TONS AND TONS OF FECES, 89000 pounds per second in the US to be exact. The runoff from factory farms pollutes our waterways more then all other industrial sources, combined.

So, Yea, not more efficient. Flat out, it would be better if you murdered the wild ones with your bare hands then to buy a slab of carcass from safeway.

It is not silly to not eat corpse. I'm not ashamed that I like the taste of flesh. I like it, but NO I WILL NOT CONSUME IT. It is BAD FOR THE ANIMALS, BAD FOR MY HEALTH, BAD FOR THE EVOLUTION OF OUR SPECIES, AND BAD FOR THE PLANET.

User avatar #275 to #273 - HonkIfIDriveWell (06/27/2011) [-]
Meat is not bad for your health lol, quite the opposite (especially red meat). Also, it's more efficient in that I don't have to hunt to get meat. I can just buy it from a store. And if I couldn't buy it from a store, then I would be out hunting it. If you think humans are going to "evolve" past eating meat, then you kind of don't understand the premise of evolution. We'll only only shed traits that affect us negatively, or develop new traits to help us survive better. Eating meat or not eating meat doesn't fall under either of those categories.
User avatar #276 to #275 - sparkieemae (06/27/2011) [-]
Actually read my argument on why it's not more efficient please.

Yes obviously it is more efficient for you to walk to Safeway then to hunt derp.

Herbivores, no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding. Humans, no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding and to take a look at the canines of a gorilla and remember that they are vegetarians and insectivores.

We are conditioned to eat meat, for survival, HOWEVER our own biology shows us that we are not designed to survive with flesh as a main staple in our diet. I'm not saying that it isn't in our nature, Biology is.

Also, it is kind of sick to murder animals because they taste to good not to (which FYI is for your enjoyment, glutton) and its even sicker to buy into the industry which causes SO MUCH HARM TO OUR PLANET. It takes a small person to kill a defenseless animal. Even smaller person to eat it.

Why the **** do vegetarians eat fish and eggs?
User avatar #185 to #48 - sparkieemae (06/25/2011) [-]
Real vegetarians don't eat fish, a fish is an animal. Someone who claims to be a vegetarian and then turns around and eats a fish burger just has their head up their own ass and wants to feel proud because they resist most carcass.

Contrary to the opinion of 90% of the neanderthals I've ever spoken to, an egg ISN'T A LIFE IF IT IS UNFERTILIZED. The eggs we buy from the store are not fertilized, meaning the chicken which produced that egg never came into contact with a rooster, therefore was never ****** by a rooster, therefore the egg inside her never even had all the genetic information necessary to become a new chicken. It was simply passed, and is a healthy, tasty, murder free, allbiet disgusting food source for other animals.
