It's just a sweet leaf. People have used it for ages with no ill effects. But we'll see once it's as processed as our sugar cane.

Not an artificial chemical, it's from a plant, and no noteworthy side effects have been observed from its use.

Nothing, actually. The reason for the decrease in the price is due to the lesser amounts required of the substance in order to achieve the same level of sweetness as sugar.

a lot sweeter? then did I get the wrong kind of stevia, or is this sweetness an 'acquired taste', or do some people have taste buds that detect stevia to taste bad?

Cause what I had was not sweet. at all.

Stevia is only sweet to a moderate point. If you put in an overt amount of Stevia into any given food or drink - you'll find the sweetness degrades into a bitter aftertaste.

the worst taste in human history.

Seriously, i tried some apple brotein powder with stevia. It was actually like i was drinking the worst part of water, milk, sugar, apple and artificial sweeteners in one.

The water because of the consistency, the sugar and the milk because it was waaay too sweet, apple because of the aftertaste (i swear, the taste was like what artificial banana is to real banana, except with apple, but it doesn't just taste good in a different way, it just tastes like you're eating artificial rotten apples) and artificial sweetener, because **** me if that didn't taste artificial as ****.

I know you were just correcting the one point, but I have a feeling that a lot of people read this as, "It's natural, and therefore more healthy!" You know what else is natural? Deadly nightshade. Why don't you eat deadly nightshade? Because it's deadly nightshade. There may be side effects associated with it.

I am inclined to believe it is at the very least much better for you than other sweeteners but too much of anything will have some side effects. for instance too much sugar/corn syrup causes sluggishness from low blood sugar after the spike and weight gain. while I do think that one guy was not making a good argument by comparing it to nightshade stevia will likely have SOME sort of side effect, at least when consumed in large amounts

Stevia can refer to two things: 1) the actual plant (Stevia rebaudiana), 2) the sweetener the plant makes.

Of course, the sweetener is not a plant. It is a chemical, a naturally occurring and biologically derived chemical. Sorry for the anal semantics peeve. Just wanted to clear it up.
