I'm not going to sit here and dissect a Dr. Seuss quote to its very core, but I will say that motivational quotes are always wrought with logical fallacies and/or have many exceptions to their rules.

Well, I dream that tomorrow I will grow a pair of wings and fly over Taipei playing a ukulele to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb," but that doesn't mean I can do it.

That's not correct either though, because when people say "if you can dream it, you can do it" it means goals you set for yourself in life you can do if you try hard enough. Obviously this only works for realistic goals.

When they say:

This means:
if they mind they don't matter (to you)
if they don't mind they matter (to you)

Which means that if they're going to put you down, then they aren't good enough to matter to you.
It doesn't mean do what you want and if people don't like it who cares what they think, because again, you have to be realistic.
Obviously when someone says "do what makes you happy and if people are bothered by it, fuck 'em" they mean in a realistic law abiding sense.
