Well, gameplay wise Fallout NV was the game Fallout 3 should have been.
But at the same time NV is lacking in story, and a lot of other great things that Fallout 3 had.
And the expansions? Fallout 3 expansions were great compared to the NV expansions. Kinda feels like they threw them in at the last second, where as in Fallout 3 it feels like they put some work into it.
Though Lonely Road was pretty nice.

But to go with your first comment, I actually think that New Vegas' story was better. In FO3 they force you to go with the Brotherhood. Brotherhood = Good Enclave = Bad.
In NV there are many more options. Where any one of them would be considered good in there own right:
Legion = Strong and can train and protect others
NCR = Civilized, they're the reconstructed government trying to bring peace
Yes Man = Others want to use New Vegas, not help it
House = Using knowledge to bring things back to the way they were
No one side is entirely right, and neither are they wrong, that's why I feel the story is better in New Vegas. That and you're deciding the fate of one of the last bastions of humanity left, instead of fixing a water purifier.
That last part is debatable, I just prefer NV's array of options to take. Fallout 3 was great, but I prefer New Vegas.

That was when the story telling was at it's peak, every quest kept you on the edge of your seat, despite the fact that the character rpging made no sense whatsoever.

You made me laugh right after waking up. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

I know this isn't an excuse for the game being lackluster, but Skyrim on the PC has tonnes of great mods on the Nexus and steam workshop.
My favorite ones add new monsters (A lot of monsters), make the dragons better, overhaul the combat, improve skill trees.
No luck for the console peasants gamers.

I repsectfully argue with that. Skyrim may not have the best story line, but some gamers just want the feeling of adventure, like me. I dont like having to follow this one path all the way to the end. I do agree with the weapons system however, they could have done better. But all gamers are not the same, some want it for the story, some want to roam around and fuck shit up.

Completely agree, at first glance the graphics made me go "Wow" but after I fully experienced everything it was ultimately all quite dissapointing, the characters were bland and had no personality, the story telling was also god awful. It's like they sacrificed everything a regular story based game has because of the big open world.

GTA and Fallout have also got rich huge open worlds but also tell great humorous stories with amazing characters, they have creativity in writing and characters which is why they're so satisfying. But Skyrim unlike oblivion had none of this, just a pretty world with nothing to do in it.

It's like you're given a great big sand-pit to play in, but no toys or friends to play with.

In a nutshell.

Bad Characters/No personality
Awful quest variety
Terrible atmosphere/Wasn't imersive at all

In my opinion it's the best game ever created. I never feel like i'm killing some random bandit. I feel like i'm actually killing someone in that game. I can see your point, but the fact that there's many different story-lines and you can pick and choose, it really helps you create your character to your liking. To me the scenery impresses everytime I play. To desolate, snowy deathtraps, to forested hunting grounds it never fails to me. I strongly disagree with no quest variety. You have to option of joining a brutal war where both sides have a honorable reason to fight. Or you could help daedric Gods that think nothing of mercy. Corrupt cities with seemingly slave labor give the feeling of being a hero, an example being markarth or maybe riften. Questlines can be riveting and climatic and end in different ways. I never found myself losing interest in progress due to the fact that I'm not set on one path. When you create a new character you choose style of combat and the missions you want to do. All of my friends and I have a different view of the game and they're all positive opinions. no one experiences it differently. This is just an opinion and I can definentily see why someone would disagree with me. To me, skyrim is a a beautiful, pinnacle of games shaped to your own play style.

I really hate the whole "X is the best game/album/band/song/whatever!". Seriously, it's either childish or severely limited. Probably both.

And just my 2 cents, Fallout 3 doesn't hold a candle to Fallout 1 & 2. Just like Oblivion before it, it is marketed towards the newer "breed" of RPG players who probably never heard of Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate.

I think most of the new features added made it amazing, but the setting was pretty bad compared to Fallout 3. I think the Capital wasteland was much better than Mojave wasteland and that does lower some points for NV

Well, NV was what F3 was supposed to be originally, a continuation of the story from F1 and F2

NV is better in many ways yes. I would say it was my favorite game. I thought that the story for fallout 3 was better but then I realized NV had a more dynamic and replay-worthy story. Also the mods for NV are much much more abundant.

it was better from a technological aspect, yes, but i still think fallout 3 had a better atmosphere, better story, and i felt the enviroment was better. This is just my opinion, and i'm not saying F3 didn't have any flaws, but i think that F3 was the superior.

Same engine and still published by Bethesda means they'll use everything Obsidian added.
They are actually going to try using the new engine (skyrim) to make it look and play better.
