Coming from a true fan who played every single game, including the reboot I feel as if I'm entitled to talk about this:

This reboot was good, however, unlike the the last game it was not great, and utterly fucked with major elements of the story. It had some good ideas, but in my opinion fails to live up to the original.

Dante becomes a slightly weaker character, and is a bit annoying, but otherwise barely tolerable, and I do mean barely, Vergil is utterly butchered, I like the idea of him being a smart ass, but he behaved like such a bitch, and he was laughably weak when he should have been 3 times more difficult and bad ass. Also, this whole "nephlim" business is cool in theory but it completely and utterly throws a way a major theme of DMC: Not being a monster because of your birth, and the human element. I was also pissed they took out the "fight every boss you killed on one stage" level.

DMC4 was fucking brilliant, and only lacking in the intensity and game play of 3. I pray to the gods for a 5, because while that reboot was fun and had some pretty fucking epic boss fights, it's just a shadow of DMCs shimmering glory.

And pu-fucking-lease that music was lame compared to the original compositions of the last two.

Dude. I love this. This whole thing. I agree with almost everything. I didn't like that DMC4 was just 10 levels then you played the exact same 10 levels backwards with Dante. I like Dante more, but I wish he had his own levels. The gameplay was godlike in DMC4 and 4. Also, I play the game which that gif if from competitively. I use Vergil/Dante/Strider.

They weren't trying to make a better version of the original.
They were created a game in an alternate universe, and they did pretty damn well. Some of the elements in the game are awesome. The new one also incorporates part of the "You're not evil because of your birth." Dante and Vergil are both beings of immense power, and Vergil believes they should use it to rule over mankind and protect them from themselves and other beings. Dante, believes that every being should be free.

DMC4 was shit. You got to mostly play as a crappy carbon copy of Dante, and when you do get to play as Dante it is for like an hour. They seriously didn't even try to make a new character design.

DmC was better in every possible way. Combat flowed better and had more versatility, the environments were better, and the characters were more versatile and believable.

Bring on the red thumbs.

>press 3 times a button

>versatil combat

even better
>wait for dumbass boss ai to get trapped on something
>Unload on it with ebony & ivory (iirc the names of his dual pistols)
>SSS combo
>Versatile combat...

As Yahtzee pointed out "Never before have I gone 'Thank God the boss got huge, thought I might have had a challenge...' in a game"

There's one problem with everything you said. The story isn't SUPPOSED to be the same. The fact that everyone is getting pissy about the story is actually really annoying. Why the fuck would they keep the story the same in a reboot? It's SUPPOSED to be different. It still has moderately the general idea.

I have never agreed with someone more then i agree with you now.

the thing about original DMC was that Dante was not evil despite his lineage, and he found peace and the ability to be a kick ass good guy. Plus the whole demon's running our world with the pseudo political message was kinda out of place and not needed.

The worst thing is during the scene after the fun house where the mop lands on newbie's head and he says "yeah right, not in a million years"

I actually kindof like the new DmC. Mind you, I was the kid who grew up in isolation with nothing but my brother, our PS2, and a handful of games. Among them Devil May Cry.

It won't ever, in a million years come close to the originals. And the new Dante, (I don't mind him) will never be as awesome as the old one.

I liked it because it was a change of pace. Among all the titles like Battlefield and the yearly Call of Duty, it was nice to play something that felt familiar. It was hectic and fun.

Yea they butchered alot of things, but the way I see it the last games are just suspended in limbo see what I did there? sometime soon, we're just going to pick up, and continue where we left off. I hope so anyway. I see much potential for new DmC to outstay its welcome.

give it time for development, they basically set up that demons are now in the human world, dante has white hair and has grown from a street punk to...well, less of street punk., His rivalry with vergil has begun. They can go to great places with that
