Like destroy all humans?
#3 to #1 - anon (12/19/2015) [-]
Except there hasn't been a good Destroy All Humans since.. well.. the first Destroy All Humans game.

while these people might be making alright points...the original destroy all humans was by far the best.

God damn mother ****** with their impeccable aim and ******** poison
#34 to #33 - asasqw (12/19/2015) [-]
Did anyone ever have problems with them? They have no weapon fragments so explosives are allowed, blow the hell out of their cover.
#35 to #34 - asasqw (12/19/2015) [-]
That and I feel there is a huge part of them we are missing. When you storm their base you find out they are a secret society going back as far as medieval times. I hope we see them, or some remnants, as the government/police force in X-com 2
#37 to #36 - asasqw (12/19/2015) [-]
Seriously though, **** this thing. Two attacks a turn even if it moves. High powered laser and a bombardment that covers a large area. And on top of all that ******* free overwatch on everyone.
#41 to #39 - asasqw (12/19/2015) [-]
All the enemies in X-Com 2 are redesigned under the guises of the Etherials ******* around with all of earth's gene pool. This is clearly a cross between a sectoid and a human, thing looks physically strong but lord only know what it did it it's mental powers. I think the new crysalids where mixed with mole rats giving them the ability to dig.
#76 to #41 - anon (12/19/2015) [-]
From gameolay so far it seems like they've at least maintained the ability to use mind control.

Do you even Disabling Shot?
User avatar #42 to #40 - asasqw (12/19/2015) [-]
I do but it apparently only cripples 1 of the 2 weapons and it still gets the overwatch since that is a different one
User avatar #44 to #42 - creamgravy (12/19/2015) [-]
Yeah, still not as bad though, usually i just disabling shot it, clear out any units around it, then setup my units in full cover and take it down on a full turn next round.

both dead as **** I wonder in what jewish investor's basement is the right to this franchise and if they would even think of making a sequel/reboot
User avatar #62 to #59 - brobafett ONLINE (12/19/2015) [-]
If you think that's bad. Just remember Pandemic made the first two battlefronts, but then got purchased and liquidated by EA. Now today, seems EA wants to finish the job and destroy a legacy.
#67 to #62 - anon (12/19/2015) [-]
Except the new Battlefront is legitimately a good game, just not the exact same as the old ones.

Pandemic also made one of my favorite games.
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.
I mean, true Just Cause has the whole concept.
But I want to be able to destroy buildings for no good reason than to destroy them.
And that's where Red Faction comes along, but lacks the buy vehicles and ammo function.
And also lacks the working multiple sides function.
**** , I need to find myself a PS2 to play it again.

the idea is that this is the sequal to every game you have ever lost
a "what happened in those universes" kinda thing

User avatar #74 to #2 - redrex ONLINE (12/19/2015) [-]
XCOM 2 takes place in a reality where XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within didn't happen. Aliens came and took over, weren't defeated
User avatar #9 to #2 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
That's cause the XCOM you probably know and love is like, smack dab in the middle of the timeline. There's like, 2 XCOM games from the 90s iirc that come after XCOM. One of them takes you to mars and you end up doing something that makes cohabitation possible.

I mean, you can kinda quote me, but I don't know the details.
User avatar #5 to #2 - cdm (12/19/2015) [-]
Well, it ended with the humans destroying the alien's leaders and their HQ-thing, but I guess there were alien remnants still around? Or maybe there was another invasion? Or this could be some kind of new plot started by humans, like the alien supports whose name I forgot in Enemy Within? I've been trying to avoid spoilers, but I have a theory based on that trailer that the "aliens" are (at least some) genetically enhanced humans.
User avatar #7 to #5 - amnesiacpatient (12/19/2015) [-]
I think Xcom 2 takes place in a separate timeline than the first.
User avatar #11 to #7 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
It doesn't. The game makers were just like "We're gonna make like 5 games in the 90s and then come out with a modern XCOM and place it smack dab in the middle of the timeline.". So there are some games that take place afterwards.
User avatar #12 to #11 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
So you're missing some key points between XCOM and XCOM 2 if you don't play the 90s games.
User avatar #15 to #12 - cdm (12/19/2015) [-]
I thought I read something somewhere that they were going full reboot... Oh well. This just gives me an excuse to actually finish the old ones.
User avatar #13 to #12 - amnesiacpatient (12/19/2015) [-]
Where'd you find this out?
User avatar #14 to #13 - Bobtheblob (12/19/2015) [-]
He didn't, he's just making stuff up. The old 90s series is irrelevant, it happened in another universe or something, not this one. www.pcgamer.com/xcom-enemy-within-isnt-part-of-xcom-2s-timeline/
User avatar #17 to #14 - amnesiacpatient (12/19/2015) [-]
Thats what i thought. I knew I heard DeAngelis say that somewhere.
User avatar #19 to #14 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
That article doesn't even register the 90s games. How can it be a valid article if it ignores half the games?

I mean, we could probably argue about this all night. But I'm gonna go to bed.
User avatar #20 to #19 - Bobtheblob (12/19/2015) [-]
Because EU is a reboot, not a sequel. It's an effective restart of the entire series; 90s game never happened. And good night.
User avatar #21 to #20 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
Before I hit the hay, my friend wouldn't let me go, and I found this which is a gamespot video with one of the designers about the history of the game. Maybe he'll say.

www.gamespot.com/videos/the-crazy-history-of-the-x-com-series/2300-6427484/

Night for real.
User avatar #23 to #21 - Bobtheblob (12/19/2015) [-]
I'll take a look at it, thank you! Go the **** to bed.
User avatar #25 to #23 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
You win: www.pcgamesn.com/xcom-2/xcom-2-will-ignore-your-progression-in-xcom-enemy-unknown

I read all the lore before this article. So in my head it was canon that the 90s games were part of the timeline.

I couldn't sleep. This was bugging me. GOOD NIGHT FOR REAL AGAIN!
User avatar #26 to #25 - Bobtheblob (12/19/2015) [-]
I wish. I think it was when the Bureau was in development that they specified that there were 3 XCOM universes. (90s, EU, and the Buereau.) GOOD NIGHT SWEET TIGHT.
#49 to #26 - malusdark (12/19/2015) [-]
The Bureau is hinted at connecting to EU though.
User avatar #79 to #49 - Bobtheblob (12/19/2015) [-]
Through easter eggs not confirmed to be canon. And if it was connected, that would be incredibly sad on XCOM's part; Bureau and EU take place 50 years apart, and they had no knowledge of an alien attack, despite surviving through one before? They didn't save ANY of the weapons from 50 years ago that were still better than what they were fielding in 2015?
#81 to #79 - malusdark (12/20/2015) [-]
That is true, but who knows what happened also would explain how you can command troops so well compared to anyone else.
User avatar #16 to #13 - ashedust (12/19/2015) [-]
I saw them on steam. Looked them up.

It connects them all.
User avatar #6 to #2 - amnesiacpatient (12/19/2015) [-]
The second game takes place in a separate timeline than the first. Basically, if you lost the first Xcom then Xcom 2 takes place after you lost.
User avatar #8 to #2 - sircool (12/19/2015) [-]
think "Canon is ironman impossible run"
#24 to #2 - pentol (12/19/2015) [-]
tfiraxis looked at stats of achivements from enemy unknown, and saw that most people didn't win a campaign. therefore, the canon ending is that humainty lost within the first month this is impossible, even on hardest difficulty, BTW and only a small remnant of xcom survives.
User avatar #45 to #24 - ledd (12/19/2015) [-]
Okay if that's the canon, but what bothers me... if they lost within first month then you've never proven to be a legendary commander, so why would they put their hope in you?
#46 to #45 - pentol (12/19/2015) [-]
for the exact same reasons as you were chosen as a comander in Enemy Unknown. a commander who is put into what is percieved as an unwinnable war and loses, doesn't really lose any credibility, does he?
User avatar #48 to #46 - ledd (12/19/2015) [-]
I suppose you're right
User avatar #80 to #45 - Bobtheblob (12/19/2015) [-]
You don't get to be the commander of an elite team of alien hunters by chance. You were most likely a war veteran, showing amazing tactical prowess, that did substantially better defending against the UFO threat than your peers.
User avatar #69 to #45 - mrblueftw (12/19/2015) [-]
its been confirmed that fireaxis said its a different timeline.
hell it was on the website.
User avatar #77 to #2 - caesarslegion (12/19/2015) [-]
Everyone is wrong, it's not separate timelines or anything, the Canon ending for Xcom Enemy Unknown/Within is that Humans lost.

Based on the nightmare difficulty or whatever, where fewer than 1% of people have the steam Achievement for completing the game on Nightmare.
User avatar #43 - luciafoxx ONLINE (12/19/2015) [-]
to be honest, I'd be all for that!
