Now they’ve become even more poisonous. They can’t just poison you with the Chryssalid Kiss as they did with Enemy Unknown. Every time they strike you, the tips of their claws have a poison on them. You can receive a chryssalid poison effect with any attack.
If you happen to die while that chryssalid poison attack is active, then the soldier that died, or the civilian, can then enter this gestation period, and they will become a cocoon. If that cocoon does not get destroyed by XCOM within a to-be-determined amount of turns, then three chryssalids can pop out. We now have chryssalids running more rampant than in Enemy Unknown.

What else would make a chryssalid more terrifying? If they could disappear. Now they can actually burrow underground. When you’re walking through maps, you don’t know where they are, if they’ve burrowed underground.

Oh I remember Xcom Enemy within.

Terror mission in Alaska nothing but chryssalids. Doing well most of them mission, then right at the end, found a whale that was spouting them out. tried to have four of my guys trying to kill any coming out of the whale, why a fifth and sixth guy set up a locator to blow up the whale. Then they started coming out of the ******* walls. The come up behind my guys on the lower portion, instantly killing two of them. Sacrificed the other one to ensure the other could get away, and start pulling my two guys on top out. then I found out that they can jump. THEY CAN ******* JUMP. The one closest to the beacon is simply ****** , so I make him do a last stand sort of deal, to get the other top guy out of there. and then as the last two are running to the extraction, six more start poping out of dead sharks and fish. Everyone died.

And thats how I was brutally anal raped by Chryssalids. I was doing an Ironman aswell, had to restart.

that mission is in newfoundland, not alaska.
there is actually a trick where you can reliably kill the lids that spawn from the whale, untill no more spawn. next to the whale is a system of pipes that is raised by a little. if you drop down on it from the deck of the ship, you can form a perimeter, standing shoulder to shoulder, where the lids can't jump up to you and attack you (they need to stand on the same level to attack) so you get two turns at every lid.
this is easy XP, and worth doing.
otherwise, you can leapfrog a bit when you retreat back to the extraction point, and have enough turns to get out before the air-strike hits.

if you haven't already, i reccomend you install the Long War mod, and play that. it is easily a top 10 mod of all time, with a lot of new classes, tech, items, skills, weapons and playstyles. it is generally harder than vanilla, so playing on the lowest dificulty is recomended, even for veteran players, but it also gives you a lot more tools to deal with situations.

At least it's decided now. **** flanking. Everyone stays together at all times. If one of those things pops up, the sheer amount of grenades to its' face should be enough to do damage.

I really liked fighting chryssalid in this game, they were the only enemies that were actually dangerous and without ******** rng.
