The gunplay looks like it plays significantly better
People don't look like they're made of poorly shaped play-doh
There's a use for all the random krims krams you can find
Power armor is actual power armor and it's more colourful

These are all significant improvements over previous installations, clearly and objectively
But no
MNEEH ITS **** MNEEEH ITS THE SAAAAME

Fallout is supposed to be an RPG.
Bethesda ruined all of the RPG parts of fallout to make a mediocre shooter.
Sure, the combat is better than previous fallout games, but it's still worse than any game that's actually a shooter.
There are no longer any skills and everything is based off of the SPECIAL system, there is no specialization, no interesting level ups, and everyone's character can do everything.
Your character has a backstory, and is thus chained to a particular identity, but the backstory isn't actually good enough to justify this, and overall just harms immersion and the role playing experience.
Every quest is "go to a place and shoot guys and then come back", you can't use speech to take pacifist options or find alternative ways to solve problems.
The dialogue has 4 options in every conversation that are exactly the same, yes, no, what? and sarcasm.
The graphics are better than fallout 3, but fallout 3 came out in 2008, and the graphics in F4 aren't great they're OK. I actually agree with some people that it's a Bethesda game and that the graphics aren't that important.
What's bad about the F4 graphics is that even though they don't look amazing they are so inefficient that it uses similar processing power to the witcher 3 to run, a game that is so much better looking than F4 that it makes no sense that they would have even close to the same resource use.

Fallout 4 isn't a bad game, but it is a step back from previous fallout games.
I agree with you that they have made improvements, but they ****** up too much for it. It's not the same as previous fallout titles, it's worse.
User avatar #10 to #9 - kettz (11/12/2015) [-]
I'm generally curious here, how did they ruin all the RPG parts? How did they turn it into a shooter?

When was there ever "specializations" in FO3/NV? Ye, sure you could choose specific skills and go down "one" route but there's literally nothing stopping you from doing the exact same thing in FO4, just go what you want, then stop using your points.
And tbh there ins't any less interesting level ups for FO4.

Backstory? All you know is you had a job in the military? Or did I miss something?
It can't be much more of a backstory than what FO3 had.

I haven't gotten to do so many quests yet, so I'm not going to comment on it, taking your word for it.
Here I actually agree with you though, I found this to be kinda lazy compared to previous fallout games, as I enjoyed being able to talk to a NPC, get to know 'em and whatever they could tell me.

let me illustrate you why fallout failed as an rpg for me

in the first hour
i made my way out of vault 111 after 200 years of being frozen and help out some random guys

the guys thanks me and says he's going to pay me , he then hands me some bottlecaps

now being fresh from a 200 year sleep i should WAT hard because he's handing me ******* bottlecaps and i expected atleast an option of asking him why he's giving me this junk

instead what i get is

A) THANKS
B)DIDN'T DO IT FOR THE MONEY
C)WHAT NOW ?
D)YOU'RE WELCOME

don't get me wrong fallout 4 is still a good game , the combat is vastly improved but the rpg part has taken a serious hit yet again and the attention to detail is lacking the

on top of that the voiced dialogue + a dialogue wheel is something most rpg fans absolutely hate based on anecdotal evidence
User avatar #29 to #16 - newprinny ONLINE (11/12/2015) [-]
I don't know about the older games, but I don't remember there ever being a freakout about bottle caps, dood.
User avatar #37 to #29 - harasai ONLINE (11/12/2015) [-]
in New Vegas you have no backstory other than "you're a courier in the wasteland" so there is no need to freak out about it because you've lived your whole life in the wasteland
in fallout 3 it's a bigger stretch but at least vault 101 had some interaction with the outside world and everyone was actually conscious post war so you could at least know about it

f4 on the other hand has no excuse at all

#38 to #37 - newprinny ONLINE (11/12/2015) [-]
NV has your main character living in the wastes as an excuse, but I'm pretty sure the extent of knowledge that the vault dwellers had of the outside world was that it exists at all, and not really anything about what kind of money they'd be using and stuff, dood. Whenever your dad leaves in 3, the whole vault freaks out, alarms go off, and Amata doesn't know how he opened the door except that there was a tunnel directly to the exit and they hacked a terminal, so it's pretty safe to assume that leaving the vault is a rare occurrence at best. The Lone Wanderer has no concrete reason to know what currency they use, and the only possible explanation is flimsy at best and relies on someone at some point maybe telling him "oh yeah, they use bottle caps outside the vault, not that you really need to know, since no one really leaves the vault anyway."
User avatar #39 to #38 - harasai ONLINE (11/12/2015) [-]
like i said it's a stretch

but considering you were born outside the vault and your dad has lived his whole life up until that point outside it's not completely impossible
User avatar #20 to #16 - kettz (11/12/2015) [-]
Won't argue there, I found it kinda silly myself how my character reacted to the world around her.
User avatar #14 to #9 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/12/2015) [-]
I see people explaining these *******
But all I really see is people dragging these explanations out of ass-air, cause I ain't seen ANY of it

Noone wants to SHOW you EXACTLY where and when they ****** all thgis stuff
They just say so, and expect you you believe they've seen it all already, this early into release
User avatar #31 to #14 - lilRican (11/12/2015) [-]
Why the **** do people give a **** about the ******* skill points anyway?

Perk chart is a step up.

How many times has the skill point style been abused? Seriously. in New Vegas you can make a guy have 1 Charisma but still have 100 speech. and in skyrim it was broke even farther with being able to farm your skills to 100.

I really like the Perk tree

Meh, i personally don't entirely like is how grenades cant be used in vats, ive died to my own molotov quite a few more times than i should have. In fact, and "explosive" style character is really skewed. I personally havent seen a Grenade Launcher or such yet. which is something I really wanna get my hands on But atleast I can still clear a room in a single Missile or 2
User avatar #36 to #35 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/12/2015) [-]
waiting to get my hands on it before I staryt saying what I do/dont like
But my PLAN is to really specialize in the whole power armor thing and big ******** miniguns

miniguns and shotguns and just all of those " **** you m8" style weapons
#11 to #3 - mayoroftownsville (11/12/2015) [-]
Actually, it's quite different:
>no real choices
>RPG elements basically eliminated
>graphics look 2010 at best
>dialogue is ****
>story is ****
>characters are **** (except doge who is wonderful)
>the game gives you power armor and some of the best weapons within 10 minutes of starting the main quest
>large parts of the map have literally nothing in them

That's not to say it's totally devoid of improvements, but they're kind of outweighed by the **** aspects. Fallout New Vegas remains best Fallout.

>the game gives you power armor and some of the best weapons within 10 minutes of starting the main quest

THIS I feel like the pacing of the game is so out of wack, I like the game but it was like oh ok cool I get power armor for this quest... what do you mean I get to keep it. It just seems like some of the core rpg mechanics just got ripped out(I was hoarding the same weapons thinking repairing was still and thing). Overall still a good game and I have fun with it, but for me I will always like the older ones.
User avatar #32 to #12 - lilRican (11/12/2015) [-]
You can't even ******* full use the damn thing cause you only have one fusion core, and it still takes a while to get a surplus amount. so it's sitting in your garage or where ever for quite a time
User avatar #1 - friedgreenpomatoes ONLINE (11/11/2015) [-]
I think the most accurate comment/review I've seen for FO4 so far said it was a good game, but a poor Fallout.
User avatar #2 to #1 - remilia [OP](11/11/2015) [-]
tbh it looks like a FO3 DLC with slightly improved grafics.
#8 to #2 - mortolife (11/11/2015) [-]
Slightly improved he says. Christ you're pretentious.
User avatar #30 - cozer (11/12/2015) [-]
The gun play is better than ever imo, rarely use vats since I feel like I can actually aim now. The power armor just feels badass to use, you feel invincible when you use it, but it's not OP. Everything about the actual game is great, everything from the gun play to the way the dialogue and story (so far at least) are done. I have but one issue though which is the frame rate. Before people start yelling potato pc here's my specs fx 8350 processor, msi hd 7950 with 3gb vram, 8gm ram even with a pretty decent build I can't manage a constant 60 fps even on lowest settings. Other games run completely fine such as dying light, mad max, phantom pain. It's completely fine in some areas where there's seemingly more going on, but in others with very little going on the frame rate will tank. Getting into a vertibird drops me to 20 fps, but once i'm in it flying over the wasteland everything's pretty smooth. I can understand bugs and other goofy **** when it comes to Bethesda games, even crashes sometimes, but they've always ran somewhat decently out of the gate for me. Fallout 4 is a great ******* game so far, but the frame drops are so bad in some areas, including the one i'm in that I can't stand to play it.

tl;dr Game is actually quite good, but the framerate is **** even on hardware that should be running the game smooth on medium-high settings.

User avatar #42 to #41 - lilRican (11/12/2015) [-]
no skill points,

You level up

You choose a perk based on how high that Specific SPECIAL part is.

for instance you need 6 Perception to be able to make bombs and do higher damage with them
User avatar #43 to #42 - nachobeldavid (11/13/2015) [-]
So. In your honest opinion, sir.

Should I buy this game now, even tho it will cost me, either in upgrading my pc or upgrading to a next gen?
User avatar #44 to #43 - lilRican (11/13/2015) [-]
Personally I dont know what your budget is to tell you how much of a down payment it'll be. But ill tell you what.

Finish your Pc first. But let this be one of the first games you run it on if you end with some extra cash
