the sexualization of males doesn't work that way. Women see global aspects, ones related to status and hypergamous intonation, and men see individual aspects of physical appearance. That's why men are represented as alpha-looking badass ************* , and women have awesome rockin' tits. The men are still physical specimens, but that is not enough in and of itself to garner female interest.
I feel your argument is not fully valid since, as a female, I would still prefer it if more male video game characters had their abs and butts out to compliment their personalities.
Right, but you want them to appear impressive to others around them too, likely. You want them to have an air of command, along with those abs. Men just like bewbage.
wtf is "hypergamous intonation" ? Hypergamy is marrying above your social class, but intonation is like putting emphasis on parts of words. They don't seem related and when i google the whole phrase i just get this comment
What if, and try to humor me on this, some people want to play a game for it's narrative and overall enjoyability, rather than judging it by how tight/wet it makes the audience's pants? Someone doesn't play an RPG to get aroused, on the internet there are millions of better alternatives. If sexual attraction is the driving force of the RPG industry, then giants such as EvE, Dark Souls, and Elder Scrolls should be the worst titles in the genre.
of course, lots of people prefer that. That doesn't negate obvious numbers in marketing offices, though. It does not counter the obviousness that is "sex sells". The quality narrative and gameplay are what you enjoy when you get the game, sex sells the game itself.
This just may be an isolated incident, but its the one I know best. If sex is truly the god-send of marketing strategies, then the marketing of titles that employ it should be sex first, game second, as it would give the game a foundation upon which to further itself upon, no? A steady increase of quality that should have gripped the audience in the beginning, then kept them with the increasing improvements. Well, look at Vindictus. When it first came out, it was built around a theme of helplessness, strife, bloody adversity, and at least somewhat realistic combat (As shown in the video.) This did the game good. It developed a good fanbase, and its playerbase expanded. Now, AFTER the game got it's foothold and became a full-working title that already siphons the $$$ out of the most hardcore elitists, it started going more and more into sexual promiscuity. In it's early stages the largest sexual theme was battle-damaged equipment showing off some skin

But after about a year or two, when the game had reached a climax, designs for female armor became more and more sexualized and downright ridiculous for it's initial setting

to the point where a game that was essentially a Dark Souls MMO had it's quality evolve into being based around who's the most superpowered thong-wearer. And eventually the playerbase declined to the point where theres only real traffic for a week or two when a new update is out
My overall point here is that sex doesnt sell, its just used as a cheap, one-time incentive to replace a lack of imagination, quality, and creativity. Look at Scarlet Blade
I can confirm, I've got a decent set muscles, a six-pack that gay men find extremely attractive but unfortunately, women aren't turned on by my body. Ultimately, men are visual creatures whereas women become sexually aroused via smell, touch, auditory and emotional-based stimuli. Damn evolutionary science.
Nah, they find it aesthetically pleasing like a piece of art but not physically attractive per se. I know it's anecdotal but I've approached dozens of women and most kinda give me that " **** off" look or even the one's who thought I was hot (even as far as suggesting I should be an A&F model), they still didn't feel an attraction towards me. Sexual attraction tends to be chemical and with women, looks doesn't play a major part. There are dozens of men who are scrawny, tubby, short, ugly etc who get the hottest chicks whilst some, even the physically fit, chizzled one's struggle to get laid.
My degree is in biotechnology. Women's Studies is a required coarse in most new england universities, unfortunately. It helped me become an anti-feminist.
Your argument is valid but both are still examples of retarded sexualization sure it can be fun to have in some games but sometimes I want to see a realistic female character.
While I see the point you're trying to make, the concept of a developer altering their work to suit their consumers' wants is kind of how the economy works. If a developer made a game and ignored consumer input, they aren't gonna do very well
Except that these so called "sexist" games do in fact sell very well. People wouldn't make these games if the concept of scantily clad women in armor was so repulsive to the audience.
The market favors this, in the same way that the market favors supermodels in bikinis selling burgers, what SJW's do is try to....
1. Change the preference.... Fat is beautiful.
2. Or change the availability (we know that bikini models sell well, but you shouldn't do it because it disempowers women).
My suggestion to Seymion is the one of ultimate freedom, he is free to make his/her own game as is Bethseda, or any other company, the market should be free to produce games for everyone.
I agree on all points but while I have no problem with sexualized charecters it just gets boring after a while and while it not currently within my ability to make my own games I will not demand that all games should suit my needs I'm just mainly going to throw my money after games with fleshed out characters.
If on manages to make the sexualization a realistic part of the character and not just something tagged on then I wouldn't care about the sexualization cus it would make sense.
Personally I'd like options. "Do you want males to be sexualized? Females?" and base the armor around that. Even if the sexualized cost extra, I'd love me some of that. Because it depends on the mood really for what I want to see.
Which is a good idea and would work in multiplayer (girls sometimes take advantage of this) , but you have to realize that it might not be feasible in something more RPG'ish, or Adventurey.
I DON'T know how Assassin's Creed 4 turned out, but in 3, the cutscenes pretty much worked with only one outfit, regardless of costume choice. So in something like that, boobs might win the majority vote.
Dude I'm not going to make my own game I'm just going to aim my money at someone who makes game that fit my tastes. The entire market needn't suit my needs I just personally get bored with onedimensional characters.
male sexuality is different from female sexuality, regardless of the target of said sexuality. You still have male proclivities, only they are over the male form instead of the female form.
An alpha-male character who is super stronk and badass in every way is more of a power fantasy for the male audience than eye-candy/sexualisation for the female audience. If male characters were sexualised in video games they would look like that sort of generic "pretty boy" who wears... cardigans and has flippy hair.
that's the feminist counter-argument. It is untrue as a general rule. That's why female products being sold for women will feature the same male configuration. Sex sells, not male power fantasies.
did I say that? Or was my original statement "Women have a more wide view of sexuality, and skimpy clothes aren't enough to turn them on, so they need alpha looking males who are badass ************* and who others view as being impressive". Advertisements aimed at women have these kind of men all the time, as if to imply that if a woman uses, say, this perfume, she can get this kind of male. Lets not even start with that ******* diet coke commercial either.
>Implying Skyrim isn't a hentai game
They clearly didn't design it for challenging gameplay or storytelling. Everything else was a front to give the hentai mod authors a better system to use than oblivion.
Also, how in the name of **** does a dick fit in those pants? Either their entire race is hung like 2-yearolds or those are some physics-defying trousers.
************* imagination. I see my dwarves as I wish and my brain says that a dwarf covered in masterwork steel armor, with a breastplate and 3 mail shirts is pretty practically-dressed.
I pretty much only play fortress mode. That's where some of the most Fun moments are. Also, it's amazing how easily a fort can go down in flames. I've had civil wars start over a pair of masterwork giant cave spider silk socks.
Try doing both. Make a safe fortress in the center of the world map and mine down to the candy, then make a full set for yourself to collect later. Or just make 1000+ copper shields and be an invulnerable god.
If I showed you what a sexualized man looked like I'd get banned from FJ.
Believe me, a burly man in armor is NOT sexualized for women. It's the idealized version of a man (AKA a character men would chose because they see themselves becoming that character, and therefore being more 'manly' by playing him. )
what about this feminine character huh? all the homo, i am
By anyways in gw2 my female guardian (heavy armor) always has plates and **** on. The skimpy armor looks just out of place imo. Then again that skimpy armor can only be earned from the 'hardest' dungeon.
I have both a female and male norn guardian's i love the stag armor but serious its like for the female openly revealing looks at the male and its solid.
We could fix all the problem with character customization, then they can make the respective male or female as masculine or feminine as they wanted.
I could prance around with a skimpy girly boy and the others could have manly men, same for the wombs, women of all shapes and sizes, tall busty ones, shorter ones with a flat chest and a big ass. It'd be a beautiful MMO.
I'm pretty sure I'm the target audience for RPGs and I find it stupid.
Either do both skimpy or both practical.
Mixing things up is inconsistent and disturbs immersion.
Why not Monster Hunter? More often than not, the armor is adequate enough to protect both sexes, while the female's is more sleek and reveals just a bit and the male's is more bulky and wide.
Not to mention Monster Hunter has the best, most cool looking armor ever.
They actually had a really good skill set if you used gems properly. I think sharpness and adrenaline was the main ones. Risky, but it was the set I used to fight Jhen.
I'd always equip it just for fun whenever I went out to help people in low rank back in Tri. I can't wait for 4U to come out because the armor looks really cool. I'd have to say the spider has my favorite armor set in MH4.
Plus the ones that are quite revealing for the ladies are so too for the men. Look at the kirin armor. I admit the guy has more pants but his bare abs and chest are the thing you'd be looking at anyway. I absolutely love the franchise.
Bnahabra or Baggi Armor for female is the best looking, But the Yamato from Tri is my all time favorite for female. For male my favorite is Rathalos Soul Z.
Oh yeah, although the Jehn Moran is like a living battle ship. There is nothing like an online fight with those. The raviente was fun too, but with such a ******** of player there was always something that went wrong.
Yeah got almost a month of playtime in the thing here. It was the only game I played for quite a while even tho it was a wii game. Didn't look bad and I still think it's the best game so far. Best monsters and it felt so natural. I still play it offline but it seems so pointless. What did you specialize in?
Goddammit I ******* love Monster Hunter.
My favorite looking armor has to be the Lagiacrus set, even though it is pretty low rank armor. I remember having to kill him at least 10 times to finally complete the set.
Same with the Kushala Daora from Monster Hunter 2nd G. I had fighting him down to a system when I was farming him. His set is pretty badass though.
It is a shame that I never really do multiplayer, because a lot of the really cool monsters are guild only.
You do want to play Corruption of Champions. I dunno who that anon is, but you don't half-ass a recommendation to play CoC with some weak "you might wanna" **** .
