the sexualization of males doesn't work that way. Women see global aspects, ones related to status and hypergamous intonation, and men see individual aspects of physical appearance. That's why men are represented as alpha-looking badass ************* , and women have awesome rockin' tits. The men are still physical specimens, but that is not enough in and of itself to garner female interest.
#7 to #2 - anon (05/29/2014) [-]
I feel your argument is not fully valid since, as a female, I would still prefer it if more male video game characters had their abs and butts out to compliment their personalities.
User avatar #38 to #7 - teranin ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
Right, but you want them to appear impressive to others around them too, likely. You want them to have an air of command, along with those abs. Men just like bewbage.
User avatar #81 to #2 - neednsfw (05/30/2014) [-]
wtf is "hypergamous intonation" ? Hypergamy is marrying above your social class, but intonation is like putting emphasis on parts of words. They don't seem related and when i google the whole phrase i just get this comment
User avatar #85 to #81 - teranin ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
I meant emphasis on hypergamy but I worded it badly, my bad.

What if, and try to humor me on this, some people want to play a game for it's narrative and overall enjoyability, rather than judging it by how tight/wet it makes the audience's pants? Someone doesn't play an RPG to get aroused, on the internet there are millions of better alternatives. If sexual attraction is the driving force of the RPG industry, then giants such as EvE, Dark Souls, and Elder Scrolls should be the worst titles in the genre.
User avatar #97 to #94 - teranin ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
of course, lots of people prefer that. That doesn't negate obvious numbers in marketing offices, though. It does not counter the obviousness that is "sex sells". The quality narrative and gameplay are what you enjoy when you get the game, sex sells the game itself.
User avatar #105 to #97 - PVTDickStryker ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
Not quite.....

This just may be an isolated incident, but its the one I know best. If sex is truly the god-send of marketing strategies, then the marketing of titles that employ it should be sex first, game second, as it would give the game a foundation upon which to further itself upon, no? A steady increase of quality that should have gripped the audience in the beginning, then kept them with the increasing improvements. Well, look at Vindictus. When it first came out, it was built around a theme of helplessness, strife, bloody adversity, and at least somewhat realistic combat (As shown in the video.) This did the game good. It developed a good fanbase, and its playerbase expanded. Now, AFTER the game got it's foothold and became a full-working title that already siphons the $$$ out of the most hardcore elitists, it started going more and more into sexual promiscuity. In it's early stages the largest sexual theme was battle-damaged equipment showing off some skin You need to login to view this link But after about a year or two, when the game had reached a climax, designs for female armor became more and more sexualized and downright ridiculous for it's initial setting You need to login to view this link You need to login to view this link and just kept going at it You need to login to view this link to the point where a game that was essentially a Dark Souls MMO had it's quality evolve into being based around who's the most superpowered thong-wearer. And eventually the playerbase declined to the point where theres only real traffic for a week or two when a new update is out
My overall point here is that sex doesnt sell, its just used as a cheap, one-time incentive to replace a lack of imagination, quality, and creativity. Look at Scarlet Blade Vindictus Open Beta Trailer

I can confirm, I've got a decent set muscles, a six-pack that gay men find extremely attractive but unfortunately, women aren't turned on by my body. Ultimately, men are visual creatures whereas women become sexually aroused via smell, touch, auditory and emotional-based stimuli. Damn evolutionary science.
User avatar #171 to #103 - hawaiianhappysauce (05/30/2014) [-]
What he is saying is false though. Women are attracted to that form, you just aren't approaching them because women are too insecure to ask a guy out.
User avatar #178 to #171 - weenieandthebutt (05/31/2014) [-]
Nah, they find it aesthetically pleasing like a piece of art but not physically attractive per se. I know it's anecdotal but I've approached dozens of women and most kinda give me that " **** off" look or even the one's who thought I was hot (even as far as suggesting I should be an A&F model), they still didn't feel an attraction towards me. Sexual attraction tends to be chemical and with women, looks doesn't play a major part. There are dozens of men who are scrawny, tubby, short, ugly etc who get the hottest chicks whilst some, even the physically fit, chizzled one's struggle to get laid.

#20 to #5 - reginleif ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
**reginleif rolled image** In that case you should make your own game!!! There are plenty of resources online to get you started!

What is unreasonable is expecting someone else to alter their work to suit what you want.
#29 to #20 - anon (05/30/2014) [-]
While I see the point you're trying to make, the concept of a developer altering their work to suit their consumers' wants is kind of how the economy works. If a developer made a game and ignored consumer input, they aren't gonna do very well
User avatar #30 to #29 - reginleif ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
Except that these so called "sexist" games do in fact sell very well. People wouldn't make these games if the concept of scantily clad women in armor was so repulsive to the audience.

The market favors this, in the same way that the market favors supermodels in bikinis selling burgers, what SJW's do is try to....

1. Change the preference.... Fat is beautiful.
2. Or change the availability (we know that bikini models sell well, but you shouldn't do it because it disempowers women).

My suggestion to Seymion is the one of ultimate freedom, he is free to make his/her own game as is Bethseda, or any other company, the market should be free to produce games for everyone.
#67 to #30 - seymion (05/30/2014) [-]
I agree on all points but while I have no problem with sexualized charecters it just gets boring after a while and while it not currently within my ability to make my own games I will not demand that all games should suit my needs I'm just mainly going to throw my money after games with fleshed out characters.
If on manages to make the sexualization a realistic part of the character and not just something tagged on then I wouldn't care about the sexualization cus it would make sense.
#31 to #30 - theonemica (05/30/2014) [-]
Personally I'd like options. "Do you want males to be sexualized? Females?" and base the armor around that. Even if the sexualized cost extra, I'd love me some of that. Because it depends on the mood really for what I want to see.
User avatar #32 to #31 - reginleif ONLINE (05/30/2014) [-]
Which is a good idea and would work in multiplayer (girls sometimes take advantage of this) , but you have to realize that it might not be feasible in something more RPG'ish, or Adventurey.

I DON'T know how Assassin's Creed 4 turned out, but in 3, the cutscenes pretty much worked with only one outfit, regardless of costume choice. So in something like that, boobs might win the majority vote.
#68 to #20 - seymion (05/30/2014) [-]
Dude I'm not going to make my own game I'm just going to aim my money at someone who makes game that fit my tastes. The entire market needn't suit my needs I just personally get bored with onedimensional characters.

Believe me, a burly man in armor is NOT sexualized for women. It's the idealized version of a man (AKA a character men would chose because they see themselves becoming that character, and therefore being more 'manly' by playing him. )
