I mean it's kind of cool to know, but considering how non-existant the references to the various games are, I can see why one wouldn't give a **** . They feel more like different takes on the same "Legend".

They decided to put out an official timeline when Skyward Sword was coming out, since they wanted to back up their claim that Skyward Sword would be the first game in said timeline.

So Skyward Sword is the truth before it became legend

You could put it that way. It's also the story of how the Master Sword game into existence though, an item which was already present in the other games.
User avatar #10 to #9 - Proximity (06/18/2014) [-]
Used to be that way, but after years of fans whining for a timeline, and coming up with very interesting unofficial timelines themselves, the makers finally gave in and made an official timeline

Which I don't care for. I like them being completely independent of eachother with only a running theme and no true connection

It's based off of Dynasty Warriors, but the developers have mentioned that they're taking some cues from the main Zelda series. Shown off at the E3 demo was being able to find items on a battlefield to help navigate it (bombs, and a hookshot shown off on the Nintendo Treehouse stream), as well as having huge boss monsters to fight (King Dodongo in the demo)
User avatar #25 to #14 - createdjustnow ONLINE (06/18/2014) [-]
you realize it is meant to be a dynasty warriors spin-off? it's even called Hyrule Warriors...
#28 to #25 - twilightdusk ONLINE (06/18/2014) [-]
No, that's improper use of the word spin-off. A Dynasty Wars spin-off would mean using the characters and/or setting of Dynasty Warriors in a different type of game. Since this game is using the Legend of Zelda characters and setting, it's a LoZ spin-off using Dynasty Warriors style gameplay.
User avatar #29 to #28 - createdjustnow ONLINE (06/18/2014) [-]
well then i must not have meant spin-off, thanks for correcting me. but my point is that the creators of Hyrule Warriors admit to basing the game off of Dynasty Warriors to enable room for fans of both series to enjoy themselves. So i apologize for any misunderstanding i may have caused.
#32 to #29 - twilightdusk ONLINE (06/18/2014) [-]

From what I saw (which was very little) it had at least some depth to it. The vid I watched the dude was Zelda and it started out like "Help link fight the armies" then they had to help a Goron fight a Lizalfos to open up a mine to get bombs to blow up a wall to save impa. I mean, it doesn't seem like much but it's a lot for a Dynasty Warriors-esque game. I mean, I love DW Gundam 3 but there's is almost no depth to the actual fighting at all.
User avatar #21 - thatguyontheright (06/18/2014) [-]
I still do not accept the existence of a timeline. Every game, unless they had a direct link with another were episodic adventures which stand on their own, like Final Fantasy. You don't have to play Zelda 1 to play Twilight princess.

So in OoT, Link defeats Ganon. Then, Zelda sends Link back into his own time so he can live out his life normally. This created two timelines. A timeline in the future where Ganon's rule was just taken down, and the hero of time disappears, as he was sent back in time, and a timeline following Link back into the past. The future timeline where Link has disappeared leads to the opening of Wind Waker, where Ganon comes back (future timeline) and there is no Hero to save them. This leads to the world being flooded, yada yada yada.

Now, when Link was sent back into the past to be a child, he warns Zelda of what's about to happen. This leads to Ganon being imprisoned and executed, as shown within the events of Twilight Princess.

So if you think about it, the one true timeline is the Majora's mask > Twilight Princess > Four Swords + Hyrule Adventure Timeline where Link (in the past) is able to warn Zelda about Ganon and get him imprisoned.

Now, after the first few games in the timeline, if I was the hyrulian royal line, I would employ assassins to kill any baby named ganondorf as soon as they were named that. Sounds cruel, but a little bit of pattern recognition leads to a lot less suffering all around.
#60 to #19 - anon (06/18/2014) [-]
The first ganondorf was in OOT. After link beats him in the future timeline he goes back in time and warns the kingdom about him in the past timeline, and he is killed before he gains too much power. The games after that took place so long after the actual names of the people were forgotten.

So what are you trying to say? I should blame you for Nintendos lack of trying to innovate instead of Nintendo? Now don't get me wrong i saw the video, I understand that "innovation is bad". But i'm not going to buy a Nintendo game. Most aren't challenging, they aren't fun after the 15th installment of jumping on a goomba head, and they don't bring any creativity or depth besides a new furry costume mario can wear every 3 games. All that video did was depress me. My favorite mario was sunshine it was fresh but still had nods to its roots, but apparently you guys traded that for "NEW SUPER MARIO BROS WII U." A ****** title for a ****** rehashed game.
User avatar #121 to #109 - cocopopsonfire (06/19/2014) [-]
you clearly didn't watch the video, or are either too stupid to understand its message, because what you just said makes absolutely no sense.

If you rewatch the video you would realise its saying that the people who buy into franchises that will never innovate are to blame for the current issue. You'll also see that nintendo are one of the most innovative game companies out there, but to pay for that innovation they need big sellers which are the big franchises.

To me you just sound like some butthurt nintendo hater, go back to your blind loyalty to a company the gives no *****
User avatar #122 to #121 - theexo (06/19/2014) [-]
Ok, i'll try and rephrase what i was getting at to help you understand. I don't like the fact that a remade game with a title as uncreative as "New Super Mario Bros. Wii U" sold better than my favorite titles (Such as Super Mario Sunshine and other Non-Nintendo games). So we're on the same page here, but asides from one crappy IP and gimmicky consoles Nintendos innovations are lacking, and their "big franchises" feel like Madden games to me, there is hardly any change in between games. I just like the tiniest bit of depth in my games, tiny changes make me happy hell I buy every pokemon game just for the slightly different story lines and AC because they change the settings. But every Mario i play feels like the same thing i played when i was 8 and i don't want to pay full price for a game like that. Mario is stagnant due to fans buying the same game and skipping on the ones that try and deviate just the slightest from the formula and i"m worried that Nintendo is going to keep stamping "NEW" on a bunch of remade games and everyone is going to put their mouth directly to Nintendos butthole and give them "10/10s best game of the year".
It's really late over here so if i did a bad job at explaining anything just tell me and i'll try and do better. Sorry for my rambles.
User avatar #123 to #122 - cocopopsonfire (06/19/2014) [-]

User avatar #124 to #123 - theexo (06/19/2014) [-]
Well i was just trying to make a point without my post being too long. If you want to talk about others we can talk about:
Star Fox: cancelled because it didn't suck
Smash bros: good game
Donky Kong: Starting the "lets remake the original" trend
Kirby: ******* love me some kirby, sadly gameplay feels rehashed and abilities don't feel that different game to game
Pikmin: eh, 1 and 2 were good. 3 is starting the remake trend.
Wonderfull 101: sucked, really badly. controls were horrible
Mario Party: What are changes?
Mario Cart: same as Party

This is just a simple, one line argument which you won't care about. You probably won't read it and then call me an idiot, which really isn't helping your argument
User avatar #125 to #124 - cocopopsonfire (06/19/2014) [-]
you named a few good ones but you missed a couple too, if you had posted that first it would have made more sense, since now your agreeing with the video

Nintendo do create innovative games and consoles last i checked wii and wii u were pretty ******* innovative, not to mention the gamecubes entire library was pretty new age but to do that they must also sell out otherwise they would have died long ago

And before you post another monster post bashing on mario since thats what you seem to love doing i too hate the new marios, and i havnt played them in years at least since paper mario 2 anyway, which wasn't even a platformer because i dont blindly support franchises

Also starfox is getting a new game
User avatar #126 to #125 - theexo (06/19/2014) [-]
I never said i didn't agree with the video.

The motion controller tech sucked for the wii except for no more heroes and some other western style game i can't remember the name of, and was poorly utilized in MOST games. The Wii U? An ugly controller screen that is also not very well implemented in most games. And gamecube was the ******* golden age, Sunshine? Tales of symphonia? Luigis holy ******* **** mansion? Melee? Aw yiss please.

And now if you don't mind i'll start my massive Mario bashing Godzilla post
User avatar #127 to #126 - cocopopsonfire (06/19/2014) [-]
If we agree with that video why did this even start?

The wii motion control was fixed with the wii motion plus, which still had issues, but thats why innovation is risky because it doesn't always work but it deffo paid off . Wii U controller is amazing its the most comfortable controller i've used in a long time , its just developers havn't tried to utilize it well, since only game thats used it well is windwaker HD and monster hunter (that i have played anyway)

Hopefully the new games will actually use the hardware to its fullest, or it might be a massive flop like the rest of the console industry if anyone believes that the xb1 or ps4 are any good they have failed the gaming community

User avatar #128 to #127 - theexo (06/19/2014) [-]

User avatar #129 to #128 - cocopopsonfire (06/19/2014) [-]
Price to hardware ratio is shocking, had my gaming rig for 3 years and still out performs them, most of their exclusives have been complete failures, and anything thats been remotely good i have played at a better quality

They might bring out some quality exclusives at some point but that e3 just confirmed that they are simply bringing out more polished turds pretty sure xb1 only have car games and shooty shooty bang bang games exclusive wise, which got old a long time ago
User avatar #130 to #129 - theexo (06/19/2014) [-]
Yeah, i think the new consoles are still trying to find their own identity since most developers prefer to make games for last gen consoles since more people own those. But i didn't see anything from Nintendo except Hyrule Warriors, even Smash bros isn't capturing my interests.
User avatar #131 to #130 - cocopopsonfire (06/19/2014) [-]
then you missed splatoon, which looks like a load of fun and simple. mario maker, even though its pretty much a mario game, im quite interested in the player created content side of it. Devils Third is also now a wii u exclusive and it looks pretty cool and finally my most anticapated title project S.T.E.A.M, which is made by intelligent systems which have made some of my most favourite games ever. The new yoshi game looks cool too, its not really 'new' but we havnt had a true yoshi side scroller in ages. Captian toad treasure seeker looks decent for a spin off title, probably wont pay full price for it though. xenoblade im interested in, but dont know much about. new kirby, professor layton X ace attorney and theres a few others i dont really remember.

Theres a few that didnt make it to e3 either like the shin megami tensei X fire emblem and a potential metroid game

Don't fix what isn't broke.

People love Zelda games and keep buying them so they keep on making them, simple.
