My strategy in every game ever is to first build up my defenses so I can't be touched. Then slowly build up a few teams. Team 1 and 2 attack at the same time, usually ground units. Team 1 cavalry and archers, Team 2 are kamikaze if there are kamikaze troops in the game. Team 2 follows Team 1 and blows up buildings.
Team 3 is used in place of Team 2 if there are no kamikaze units in the game. They are the ranged guys, airplanes in modern rts and catapults or cannon units in medieval rps games.
In medieval rts games Team 1 defends Team 3 because they are ranged and not able to defend themselves.
In modern rts games(ie: Command and Conquer) Team 4 are the specials. Nukes, particle cannons, thunder storm, iron curtain are used in combination with the other teams.

It's just how I operate. I like to take my time in games to make sure I am at the top of every statistics that are shown after I win.
