this is the main reason I started watching anime. almost everything made in america needs to have a good/happy ending for some reason. In a good anime there is no telling where things might end.

Examples:
elfen lied
Berserk
Code gease
School days
Darker than black
Death note
5cm per second
Shiki
gai-rei zero

If you haven't seen them, do so. Not all of them have happy or sad endings, but most have a very interesting one.

Code Geass has my favorite ending to anything I've seen yet

I honestly hate happy endings sometimes. For example, in Pacific Rim, It would have been a whole lot better if they had just died at the end, sacrificing themselves for the good of humanity.

code geass has a happy end if you pay enough attention. it was just masked as a bad one.

Exactly

It was well explained, the ending. I enjoyed every second of it. Usually I'm left disappointed in endings, but not with that one

very few animes have a good well explained ending that allows me to accept the end. its a very important part of how i rate animes. largely why fate stay night doesnt crack my top 5 even thoughnow i have a slight obsession with saber. i even got the civ 5 mod to have her replace elizibeth

I've never watched it, but I constantly hear that it's really good

its got great action and a pretty good story. most people whove read the VN it was based off of dont like it because they crossed all the arcs together. basicly a bunch of legendary heros are summoned to fight for the holy grail. each hero is summoned by a master deemed worthy by the holy grail and has something to connect them to the legendary hero. the main character who is a complete amateur as a magus somehow summons the best legendary spirit. i enjoyed it just the end pissed me off. like i said not a fan of endings where the characters come together than are ripped apart but ok with it

a sad or bad ending often requires a complicated plot in my experience. So yeah, i pretty much agree with you.

I wish more epic book series had sad endings. I think thats why I also like Game of Thrones so much, because everyone dies, and it gets very grim
User avatar #58 to #57 - sleycer (08/05/2013) [-]
yeah, i know. I ******** love game of thrones, mainly because the plot is complicated and makes you think yourself. Pluss you have NO ******** idea what's going to happen next, maybe you are correct, or maybe you are terribly misstaken.

exactly. and you can't get attached to a character, because odds are they are going to drop dead. I love it
