I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and defend COD, because I'm assuming that's the game this post is alluding to.

I'm not sure why COD gets so much flac for "being the same game" sequel after sequel. Many other games have done practically the same thing and no one gave a damn. Crash Bandicoot (when it was still owned by naughty dog), Spyro, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Left 4 Dead, Portal (woo, they added paints, big deal), Ace Combat, Need for Speed, Amnesia (and Penumbra that preceded it), Assassin's Creed, the list goes on.

The game engine is the single most expensive thing to develop in any game, not the art-set, animations or audio. If a game dev can recycle as much of the engine as possible in future releases, you bet their sweet ass they're gonna do it. Adding new mechanics to the engine and improving the engine is expensive enough, much less writing a new one from scratch.
Besides, nobody would like it if they fell in love with a game only to have the sequel behave completely different mechanically because the dev decided to build a new engine.

My friend told me to buy Ghost. I straight up told him No.

A game with annual sequels will inevitably suck. The reality of it is that they're going to cut corners and innovate as little as they can get away with. Look at Assassins Creed; It doesn't suck yet, but you can see where the annual release cycle takes it's toll. Now they only change the time period every 3 games so they can recycle the character models and game elements. CoD goes without saying, blatantly rehashing the same game year after year. The only reason they don't already release CoD's more than once a year is that Activision doesn't want to overplay their hand and kill the golden goose like they did Guitar Hero.

The only way to make them stop is to make it financially impractical for them to release them every year. Until then, they're just going to continue taking the path of least resistance and release new games as fast as the market will allow.

. . .You say that as if the people criticizing ****** sequels are

a) Still buying them
b) Don't understand already this and criticize the people who actually do buy them

I used to make fun of people who bought all of the COD games and the yearly madden buyers.... and then I realized that I had five assassins creed games, three versions of street fighter 4, and MvC3 and UMvC3.

i'm ******* sick of this **** ! hurrdurr cod same gaem evry yeer. guess what: you don't have to buy it. you probably never bought one anyway. all you faggots do is bitch about it. the simpsons also have been the same every season and you still watch it. oh wait, no! they haven't! people bitch about how the simpsons have changed! why are people constantly complaining about everything? you like it - you buy it. you don't - you don't.

It's cause people want attention, they want to find people who agree with them on some topics or just to be acknowledged. Everyone bitches about something hoping to hear someonelse agree with them, it causes a feeling of good and a feeling of not being alone anymore. Heck, you are bitching about people bitching haha.

"If you keep buying **** they will keep making **** "

Alright, let me enlighten you here. Just because YOU don't like a game, that doesn't mean it is **** . I know people who didn't like Spec Ops The Line. That is the best game I've ever played in my life, and people say they don't get it. I can go on about how stupid they are for missing the point, but in the end, I can't make them like something they don't.
Call of Duty sells more games than ANYONE right now. They have a massive fanbase that plays the **** out of their games. Though they have lost a lot of fans along the way, they have gained even more. I'm not a fan of CoD. I've played them, and they bored me. But I'm the kind of guy who likes a riveting story with his porn, so maybe I'm just spoiled by Silent Hill 2.
The point is, you do NOT get to dictate weather or not a game is **** for everyone. You don't like CoD? That's fine. There are many people that don't. However, you are the minority. Most people do like it. Some people like that it's the same game. If they liked the first one, then logic dictates they will like the massive add-on. If you want something new, play Spec Ops The Line. CoD is not forcing anyone to buy their **** . They know well enough they are producing the same game over and over, and that's fine. People like the games they make. They don't claim to be the cutting edge of gaming, they're just very big.

tl;dr everyone quit bitching

Making fun of someone for liking the same type of COD game, is like making fun of someone for ordering the same type of pepperoni pizza. Sometimes your taste doesn't change, and you know what you like.

I don't play COD, but the games I love and look forward to are pretty similar to one another; more over, my fighting games like Tekken or Street Fighter never see the kind of hate COD gets, and yet they barely change their game each installment.

I think it's funny everyone complains about game series that are "virtually the same game with a few new tweaks".

But no one acknowledges that the beloved Pokemon franchise follows that description too.

Definitely

and it's sequel. No offense, just being helpful.

If the game is good, then people will buy it, it's just that simple.

That's why the Cod-series will always be great no matter what people say, because people have bought them so much

So I guess Grown Ups 2 was a better movie than Pacific Rim since more people paid to see it, right? And Justin Beiber is better than the majority of other artists? And Big Bang Theory MUST be better than Firefly because it gets more views.

I hate that people assume that just because there are a lot of people complaining about a certain company as well as a lot of people buying their products that those are all the same people. It seems like any time I complain about EA or Activision everyone yells "WELL WHY DON'T YOU JUST STOP BUYING THEIR GAMES THEN". I haven't bought an EA game in several years, and even longer for Activision.

The internet is not one person. Just because you see posts from different people that differ other does not mean that everyone who posts is contradicting themselves.

I'll give my 2 cents for anyone who cares to read a differing opinion. Since everyone is bringing it up I'll talk about Cod. I actually enjoy the game. Why? I get to run around and do stupid crap like shoot crossbows or throw knives/tomahawks, along with stabbing people 10 feet in front of me. Or if I try hard enough I'll fly in on some random kill streak and kill everyone. It fits any mood I'm in. I'm glad they change it very little. I know what I'm getting and I'll get it again with better graphics because I enjoy the hell out of it. I'll bring up one of my other favorites as a counter example. I started playing Halo towards the end of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3. I love that too, it was fast paced and competitive with the skill systems in place. Halo died for me at Reach when they took out true skill and added these armor abilities that ultimately changed the way the game played and for the worse, it slowed everything down. It was no longer fun for me. Even with Halo 4, Halo has lost that competitive edge that imo put it above other games. So, I'll keep buying the same thing because I enjoy it... Call me insane.

Honestly, I don't care about companies that create the same **** over and over again. Its the people that buy these products that piss me off. I just don't understand how some people can buy the same thing repeatedly and enjoy it. Apple, Activision and many other companies throw the same thing on the market every year and people mindlessly buy them. They get the same phones, play the same games and watch the same movies every year but never get tired of it. Its repetitive. Its simple. Its insanity.

Iphone: barely any differences from the last one yet people are in love these phones.
Call of Duty: makes millions for creating the same thing. They even admitted that they will never change the core of this franchise because no matter what, people are always going to be willing to play.
Viral Videos: Anything with a catchy beat, goofy lyrics and retarded dance moves is enough to fool people into believing its hysterical.

TLR---I just don't understand how humanity works sometimes.
