You know damn well Ryu is in every crossover fighting game, it's a miracle it took this long

It's your fault for being such a casul if you don't know Shulk

Bayonetta is a huge exclusive, and pokemon characters are really diverse (and where 1/4 of the rooster on the 64)

There's no way to excuse Fire emblem

There are more Fire Emblem games than there is Legend of Zelda if I am correct.
It's a massive flagship for Nintendo of Japan.
Lucina was just advanced one level from a costume to a charatcer and Roy was based on fanrequests.
So technically we only got 4 Fire Emblem characters that were planed, and it ended up with 6 instead.

Seems pretty excuseable if you ask me.

"there are too many anime swordsmen"

>each FE clone character (Marth, Lucina, Roy) has a different playstyle if you actually know how to use their combos and strings and the only competitively viable character of those three is Roy in Smash 4
>Ike is completely different
>Robin is trash but is an interesting character
>Corrin is going to completely change the meta in some parts due to their unique set

come on mang, at least complain about the right things like Shiek, Rosaluma, and Zero suit literally giving their opponent cancer when fought because of their ********

1. Marth and Lucinas playstyles differ due to their spacing, not their combos and strings, their move sets are literally the same, the only thing differentiating them is the fact Marth is stronger at the tip where lucinas attacks are balanced throughout.
2. Marth is completely competitive viable - check out Mr. E. Lucina probably is too but just doesn't have any good representation yet.
3. Robin is better than every character you mentioned except for Ike.
4. Opinions

Not disagreeing with you, just saying if your gonna call someone out call them out correctly

Well I meant that Marth and Lucina's combos are different because one has sourspots for differing knockbacks and one has no sour or sweetspot

and Marth is not very viable as according to my friend who tried him but decided he had little approach options

Boy you can say all you want about Robin but her being better than Roy is ******** and you know it with Roy's speed, killing power, ability to rack up damage, and amount of options and mix ups (He can confirm kills with a single fsmash at any reasonable percent, even more so with rage not mention how great his Flare blade is at edge guarding considering that a single correct timing read on ledge get up can basically confirm a kill because of how strong that knockback with just a little charge- I could go on but I'll spare you that rant)

If Robin was at all high tier, which Roy and Ike are considered, I'm sure that Nairo would use him/her more often considering how much he loves the character but even he recognizes he/she falls off at higher level play

I get these are opinions but most tier list place them in that general order with Robin being lower than most from what I've seen

btw if you want to see some somewhat high level Roy I would suggest Oni Herro (formally Staticmanny), MVG Ryo, and of course Sethlon though all their Roy's are not extremely developed as the first two only secondary him and Sethlon only recently began taking Smash 4 seriously with Roy

Okay, i understand what you mean now but i just have a problem with people saying "viable" when they really mean "optimal".

Viable Competitive Characters -
Just about any character that isn't literally garbage (Zelda, Jigglypuff, mii gunner)

OPTIMAL Competitive Characters -
Sheik, ZSS, RosaLuma, Pikachu, Mario etc. etc.

Marth/Lucina/Roy are all very VIABLE characters if you practice the game enough but definitely do have their problems and ****** matchups, such as ****** approach options like you mentioned.

As far as the whole Robin > Roy/Roy > Robin thing, its literally personal opinion. I've seen robin do much better than Roy has both locally, regionally and nationally, but when you start to talk tier lists in mid tiers its a real gray area. Thats why most top players don't even make full tier lists they just say top 10, top 20s and bottom 10s. Its much easier to break down characters that are better and worse than the rest of the cast. Robin just has much more strenghts in neutral than roy does and doesn't have to work to kill %. Sure he can kill at about 60% but Robin has to work a lot less to kill at 80% than roy does.

I see your Roy players and raise you an Acid -

Srs tho **** ZSS
#60 to #58 - stadic (12/23/2015) [-]
Shiek gives me cancer

With Roy's framedata, Sheik can miss her dash grab and still counter Roy's frame 5 jab with her frame 3-4 jab

It's ********
User avatar #61 to #60 - fuckingtrolls (12/23/2015) [-]
sheik is nothing for kirby tho. zss up-b combo is the most broken **** in the game since pre-patch diddy's up air
#62 to #61 - stadic (12/23/2015) [-]
I guess Kirby would be an exception for Shiek's ******* Fair Planning and ZSS is indeed cancer

what makes me sad is that Bayonette is probs going to be the SS of this game considering she has true combos in all her tilts and jabs and gets two up b's one of which is already better than Little Mac's

At least there isn't Brawl Meta Knight, so that's good
User avatar #55 to #47 - TRINDADE (12/23/2015) [-]
of course slight changes matter in the meta, but it's boring everywhere else

understand that any character slot FE takes is a character slot that could be used for way more lovable characters ( and with complete new movesets)

try to explain to the guy who always picks random why it's ok his chances of getting another animu swordsman are that big

also I fail to see the point in that chart
#59 to #55 - stadic (12/23/2015) [-]
The changes aren't that slight, Ike has throw set ups for kills, roy has aerial strings and ledge snap unlike Marth and Lucina, Robin has projectile plays, Corrin has a paralyzing projectile, a vertical knockback AOE counter and a side b that pins

each one of those playstyles are different and unique complete with different fall speeds run speeds, and weights

Corrin isn't even released and people know he will change the doubles and singles meta a lot

I'm talking of actually playing the game and not just complaining there are too many of one game series in Smash, I mean lovable charaters are fine but so are actual viable and fun characters. Which each FE character is besides Marth/Lucina because both kinda low tier and not liked very much in smash 4. And Robin in For Glory because **** Robin in For Glory

I get that people want lovable characters but I also want competitve characters.
If they had released another Marth clone I would be mad but Corrin is not a Marth Clone, neither is Ike and Roy barely is one in playstyle at this point

Also the chart is to counter people saying there are "too many sword characters" when well over half the roster doesn't use swords

The chart isn't even that accurate considering it says Charizard, Lucario, Fox, and Falco don't fight with Punches/ kicks and that Pit and Dark Pit don't fight with basically swords

Big chance of getting an anime swordsmen? There are 7 "anime" swordsmen I can count here (Cloud, Roy, Marth, Shulk, Lucina, Ike, and Robin)
With the current 56 released characters, that is 7/56

12.5% to play an anime swordsmen makes you upset?

does that really upset you and so many others that every smash post for the next month has to have the same "too many anime swordsmen" arguement?

besides, let's be honest here
Banjo would have just been a ****** duckhunt clone
User avatar #71 to #59 - TRINDADE (12/23/2015) [-]
yes, 1/8 is too much if you are going to spend an afternoon picking random. It takes very little rng ******** to ruin your fun
did you ever play a banjo game? There's no shortage of moves. I can't imagine his moveset with anything close to duckhunt's

maybe the problem is with the kind of people that picks them, but they are always predictable and boring to be against.
#74 to #71 - stadic (12/23/2015) [-]
I'm sorry but if you really dislike some character's, some of which have been in previous games

why the **** would you play random constantly? Pick a main or something

Also judge a character by people who understand the character not people on for glory

MVG_Ryo makes Ike stomp people like a truck and has been since Brawl and makes Roy literally float like a butterfly and sting like a bee and has been doing so recently

I can only see you getting these impressions of the characters from For Glory considering how they play in offline tourny

Also there is no concrete way to tell but a little dog like creature with a bird companion would definitely be enough of an excuse for Sakurai to bring some of Duckhunt's movepool into other character

Not a complete clone but similar to how Mii Brawler has ryu's down throw and half the fist fighting case has mario's up air

All in all, play the game or not

in the end I'm gonna play my animu swordsmen Roy and likely Corrin anyways and to me that is what really matters. Find enjoyment in what you want man

I doubt if banjo did get released in smash he would be a duckhunt clone. Just because its another duo team dosnt automatically make it a clone.
#67 to #64 - stadic (12/23/2015) [-]
Duo team of a dog like creature and bird, I mean not a complete clone but there would be some crossover, Sakurai is pretty lazy sometimes

Not saying I'd hate it but I am not displeased with the Character's annouced either, which why I don't get the complaints about Corrin and Bayonette when they are both pretty unique
