and this is coming from some one who loved origins, hell even parts of 2. but sweet jesus alive, DA:I is a boring mess of bland side quests, only three well written characters, and giant grand looking areas that are entirely empty.
exactly my point. intro? Great. "Dawn will come" scene? Outstanding. Cory on the bridge with his face melting? that was awesome. But the rushed as **** final boss fight and hamfisted/mishandled party-quests ruined a few characters and there were no side quests.
>Daddy don't love me cause i'm gay
>actually making fun of tit armor
>cassandra is male stereotype with tits
>pope can only be female, gotta force it
>suddenly civilization that chooses your identity for you, hit you with mind/brain melting potion if you disagree and had EXTREMELY GENDER/SEX set roles is ok with trans, even have a word for it.
>no male has his **** together, all females have their **** collectively together
>ALL THAT IS SERA
>daddy wanted me to have an heir to the family, i said no he tried to change me with the the things he condemned his entire to preserve his "legacy".
>as it should be, tit armour is stupid. it's counterproductive to the job of armour
>oh yer cus women can't be warriors or have masculine traits.
>tradition. the pope IRL can only be male but id on't hear you compiling, plus the pope in Tivinter can only be male.
> the civilization that is all about not waiting a single drop or personal talent to be wasted, so they put who is best at the job in it, even if they're not the right sex.
> oh yer and all the women are totally fine, Leliana with her crippling emotional troubles with the devins death, Casandra doubting her orders purpose, Varic has little to now issues what so ever, Solas is completely.
>she's a hypocritical cunt but the game never says she isn't.
>"YOU WANTED TO CHANGE ME!" actually said. "PRAY THE GAY AWAY" with blood magic.
>Armor has to look like it'd work, not actually work like real armor! realism would be bad there! if the armor was ACTUALLY productive to what its real life counter part is, NO ONE WOULD BLEED, OR GET HURT, EVER
>ignores how masculine or feminine traits came into being in the first place, also ignores how just changing the sex for cliche traits doesn't make it interesting.
>"MOST PROGRESSIVE MEDIEVAL WORLD, CAN'T HAVE A MAN IN HIGHEST CHAIR CAUSE TRADITION!" oh wait, he can, IN THE LAND THATS CONSTANTLY SAID TO BE EVIL AND BACKWARDS!
>scavenger "use all that is there" ideals conflict with conqueror attitude, add to the "DEMANDS" of the qun idea, where there IS NOT NAY SAY
>leliana constantly tearing into cullen, cullen can't stand on his own two feet literally, cassandra still being a functioning member no matter what happens, varric who is neutered completely compared to DA2
>GAME LITERALLY PUNISHES YOU FOR CALLING HER OUT ON IT THE ONE CHANCE YOU GET
> yer you know people do do that to the gay/lesbian children. heck my ******* grandfather said and did that to me when i told him i was a lesbian.
>ho, how the **** does that make any sense. if it is fundamentally flawed than how could anyone with even the slightest bit of knowledge take it seriously in any way.
>she has masculine and feminine traits. (she's a hard ass in combat but loves poetry) yes the cliche exist, but that doesn't make them bad, some exist for the sole reason as they are very ******* good.
> again it's just ******* tradition. it's the same reason the pope is male in real life, because Jesus was a man. Andraste was a women so they have a female leader.
> no it doesn't. when you conquer a land you want to use it's resource and people to maximum efficacy, if a women can beat the **** outta all the men, her talents would be wasted as a priestess, the same of a man who is a great painter, giving him a sword would be stupid as it's not what he's good at.
>the two are at ends because they're jobs are diametrically opposite along with their political views, yer it you'd actually paid any attention you'd see they are on good terms, and tease each other through the entire game. so they have a loop hole, so women in the army are not women, they are men thus keeping to their code but not waiting a valuable resource.
>yer, by getting her negative approval, something that is completely reasonable since you just insulted her, of course she doesn't like you, if you dissagre with her. anyone would get anoued.
>I don't give a **** about your personal story, it was degrassi tier writing. Could've been about wanting to change his home, could've been about him learning some secrets, but nope.
>actual armor during those times deflected most to all blows. Deaths were had when retreating when they threw off their armors to run faster. She looks like generic grunt on the field, not like some one important. that's why tit armor is there, shows off, tells their more important.
>ignores everything else is progressive as **** , keeps to "it's tradition" line. shut up.
>and if a resource is defunct, you either wipe the slate clean or destroy it so no one else can use it, you don't put a special label on it and let it CHOOSE ITS OWN IDENTITY IN A SOCIETY THAT CHOOSES YOUR IDENTITY
>literally everyone picks on cullen. literally ignoring sten's words with female wardens
>LITERALLY. PUNISHES. YOU. FOR. CALLING. IT. OUT. WITH. NO. HOPE. OF. RECOVER.
Watch out, ************ , Unofficial Dragon Age Explain incoming!
>Dorian's story IS about him wanting to change the Imperium. He ******* explains that during 'In hushed Whispers.' His companion quest on the other hand explains the disconnect between him and his family, and as Luka so handily pointed out; Dorian goes on to speak about how highly the Imperium places having and distilling 'perfect genes' on a ******* pedestal. Guess what; if you're gay, you can't conventionally have children, you cannot conventionally pass on your genes.
>Tit Armor. Really? Let me go back a little. Dragon Age Origins; Look at any Female in Plate armor. No. ******* . Tit Armor. Dragon age two. Oh, Aveline. What lovely clea- Oh wait a ******* minute. No. ******* . Tit Armor.
>Cassandra being a Male Stereotype with Tits. Hmm. Right, right. Let me just think about how often I pick up a Fluffy smut book, and dream about a man to make love to me by candlelight.
>The Divine can only be Female because their jesus is, And always HAS been, a ******* woman. If it were really the 'progressive' **** fest you're making it out to be, We would have had an Elf or a Dwarf on the Sunburst Throne by now, cocksucker.
>Let's look at Sten for a Minute. He claims that Women do not fight under the Qun. Alright, we'll accept that.
Now, let's take the females in the Wardens party as an example. They all fought, yes, and they all claimed to be female. A Female Warden specifically can say that she's a woman and she fights. Sten doe's not say No, you can't do that. He says 'One of these is not true.'
Now, Fast Forward to Bull explaining the Concept of the Aqun-Athlok. Someone who was born one gender but lives as a Man. Krem is one of these. s(he) NEVER claims to be a Female. Krem is, for all intents and purposes, a Man except for a biological level.
>Inb4 Sten doesn't understand why a woman would want to be a man therefore ur WRANG
Iron Bull expressly tells you that there ARE disagreements under the qun, and that's why the Tamassrans are there; to solve disagreements. Sten could have just had one of these mentioned disagreements, and it never got sorted out. Or, take into account that perhaps he never encountered that concept, and before you start talking **** , Everyone learns something new everyday of their lives, the Qunari included.
(Sorry for the ******* Dissertation.)
>The ONLY people in the Entirety of the Inquisition who I would say even remotely has their **** together are Vivienne, (Due to her being a literal Iron Bitch) and Solas for being the shiftiest, slickest son of a bitch in the entire world. Cullen doesn't have his **** together because, OH **** , He's a ******* addict. As is the ENTIRETY OF THE ******* TEMPLAR ORDER.
>It's not a punishment, it's called that Sera is a ******* child and is actually realistically written.
>if it was a book, you'd be right. If it was a movie, you'd be right. But not in a game. Party members that have side quests have those side quests to devolve into that character more. He only had the lame "go out and clear these camps" one that has no going into the character, then the one that's just visit this place and "WAH WAH, PRAY GAY AWAY" bull **** . Side quests are what define the character the most in games.
>I'm saying for design, tell me some armor that stood out in dragon age origins, i'll wait. Tell me a character you'd know who it is by their design. None. They're all fixed heads on generic bodies, nothing special about a single one in terms of design. Also ignoring Isabella in 2, and morrigan's entire outfit, the ONLY one to have an outfit that's definable.
>"I want to protect you, I want to fight for you, i'd die for you" YEAH HUH
>ignoring rest of society, k.
>if it WAS like you're suggesting, Sten wouldn't have brought up the point in the first place UNLESS they wanted to shove more progressive garbage into their game. He would have just used the word Iron gave us and would've moved on. He didn't.
>no one has their **** together, what I should've said was ACT like they do.
>Yup, a ******* child, good thing she's on the ******* main cast then right? **** all.
>Actually, Dragon Age has that special talent of using Party Banter to give a lot of personality to their characters. Same thing for just talking to them in camps. Blackwall and Dorian's banter in particular is always worth a listen in my opinion. Plus, while in usual circumstances, I wouldn't touch on this but, 'Praying the Gay Away'? With what is, and this isn't even Hyperbole, the equivalent of a Satanic Ritual? Not sure that translates well to SJW doctrine.
>Alright, honestly, I'll give you that one for Origins. But the fact remains, that aside from Morrigan, who was a Mage, Armor(Metal Armor, not the stupid leather **** that rogues wore) was typically of practical design, even for women. In two, all companions had definable, unique outfits with the exceptions of your sibling. Example; Anders and Merill literally had the same outfit in Origins/Awakening, but you can't even tell that to look at them now. Meredith, Orsino and The Arishok all also fell under this.
>Actually, put like that, you make her sound like a Yandere. :/
>You're going to have to expand on that point before I can make a real rebuttal.
>Or, you know, they were trying to slowly expand on the completely unique and unknown race that only exists in the one universe of DA. Like, seriously. They're nothing like Orcs, or anything else I've seen in Fantasy stories.
>I still argue that on the main cast, Vivienne, Solas and even Blackwall to a degree has their **** together on the real. Blackwall might have been living a lie, but **** me if he wasn't owning it until his companion quest.
>Speaking technically, the ONLY story-required companions are Cass, Solas, Varric, Dorian and Cole(God, I love that little Demon/Spirit/Murderer.) You can literally tell the rest of them to **** off with almost no impact to the story.
>party banter is easily missed. Needing specially selected members in your party to activate a set dialogue to say important information is NOT a good way to set up your character. Sending him away to get the ritual. blood magic doesn't require a death, just blood. Cut your hand? Done, here's your magic. the santanic bit is just for powerful **** . Let's also ignore that the only place in the world that don't like gays are set up to be evil demon worshipers.
>yeah, and they're boring for it. that's why tit armor even exists, for it to be interesting looking. practical armor is boring unless it's the the single dude in the party who uses it, even then they need special coloring for it if the generic grunt uses the same armor style. You're also ignoring Isabella "tits everywhere" and Varric "chest hair everywhere" on armor for DA2's armors. Or the emo elf who had whole sections of skin. you know, the other warrior you get in DA2. Iron bull's armor more typically than not doesn't have a shirt in DA:I too, and varric still shows chest hair. but hey, boob armor is impractical.
>if it put murder for you, it'd be yandere, just that is white knight out the ass and sums up her final romance cutscene.
>rest of society fine with trans, gays, women in equal position, super progressive sept the most powerful position in the land, only place where that's the law is EVIL LAND
>an entire unit of them in DA2, meeting the LEADER OF THEIR MILITARY BRANCH, their grandest general, wasn't enough to get a feeling of their race? Shirtless dudes every where in that whole guard, and some how accept women if they press their breasts like krem does and say they're dudes despite they won't even let the baker change his job if he says he's a farmer constantly? They're war mongering conquerors likely made by some mage who fused with a dragon and stick to the qun so they don't go crazy being half-people.
>Black "avoiding all grey warden questions" wall. Leliana, Cassandra, all the women act consistently like they have their **** together. Story needed yes, but likely not player. Player is going to unlock as many companions as they can in ever playthrough.
>You might have missed it, but the ritual that Dorian's father wanted to use supposedly had a huge chance of turning him into a Braindead Tardo. Pretty bad, all things considered. Also, while I'll give you that the Imperium is set up to seem like that, Dorian himself, the Pariah, goes to great lengths to change it for the better.
>Isabella and Varric are both Charismatic Rogues. Showing off the goods is charismatic. That said, I won't deny that those two are somewhat meant to be Eye-Candy, but that's not the point of the argument. Where Armor DOES exist, it's actually Armor. In Inquisition, Varric's coat gets some upgrades that are actually practical. Both Bull and Fenris have explanations for this. They both have something ELSE that acts as armor. Bull(And all qunari) have that face-paint **** that supposedly solidifies their skin. Meanwhile, Fenris has those Lyrium Tats that let him Kali-ma a ************ . Again, sort of Eye Candy, but hey, still not wearing armor.
>Only trans character is Krem, and one 'Gender-fluid'(Not even going to argue, that's ******* stupid.) in a Book. Only evidence of being okay with Trans comes from Qunari. Racism is super ******* rampant in all societies. Humans throw Elves into walled off sections of cities and occasionally go in, rape, murder and pillage. Yeah, super progressive. On that note; Dwarven Castes. Can't leave them without marrying above your status and there are literally women who whore themselves out in the hopes of getting pregnant to move up in the world.
>Honestly, this is just a fallacy. We have only EVER met their soldiers, with the possible exception of that one Tal'vashoth in Awakening. We only know what their soldiers are like. We have no ******* clue what the Priesthood or the Civilians are like. Oh, and there's another thing for your 'rest of society' thing. The Arishok can ONLY be Male. The Arigena(Civilian leader) can only be Female, and the Ariqun can be either. There are weird ******* restrictions everywhere.
>Honestly, at this point, this seems more like personal preference in characters, so I'm going to let this one go.
If you want "interesting to look at" armor, I'd suggest downloading some chainmail bikino mods, I'm sure those exist. Some people prefer their games realistic, some don't. BW decided to go realistic.
Also, I would call neither Varrics not isabellas outfit armor. Hell, I wouldn't even call Isabellas outfit clothing.
and the game gets hurt for it. When you design a character, you -design- one to be remembered if you're going for a good character. in terms of both looks and actions.
Which you can easily do without making their armor too stupidly unrealistic. Because I have to retract my former statement regarding Inquisitions armor realism - most of them are overdesigned to the point where you're more likely to be killed for wearing them than arriving at the battlefield in your undies.
You obviously don'Ät have any idea how armor works. Yes, plate armor was near impossible to PENETRATE directly with a sword, bout you could:
*go for the weakspots.(Neck, joints, armpits...)
*simply bludgeon the everlasting crap out of it. DA got that right by giving maces the higest armor penetration, but you can even flip a sword around and use the pommel as an improv mace. Even if you don't hurt the guy inside, you're gonna dent the armor and hinder his movement, and eventually you'll be able to get past his defence and stap at weak points
Tit armor has another really big flaw:
If you've ever helda sword properly, you'd know the basic fighting stance has your upper arms pressed pretty tightly to the sides of your chest.
Now imagive you're a woman with tits. Those are gonna be in the way. Now if you're not wearing armor, they are still abit of a hindrance, but they are soft and move out of the way, so if you're any good, you can deal with that.
Now give them ******* rigid steel casing. You're basically unable to fight now. SO yes, tit armor IS ******** .
yeah, how many people in fantasy ANYTHING have a club or blunt weapons? It's always swords. you don't say "we're making armor be more realistic" and just give it the boring armor look.
you're also not giving a good argument for women actually being in combat in fantasy **** .
axes aren't blunt, least the part where you typically fight with.
it doesn't matter that it -has- blunt weapons, what are the weapons that are used by both sides of conflicts in all fantasy's? like 90% is swords. because they look cooler, look better, easier to design to be memorable.
They are not blunt, but they are still high impact weapons, that is what counts in that regard. Also, I'd like to point of Gimlis Axe, because that **** is memorable as hell.
And yes, it is 90% swords, which is 100% ******** , just like magazines that never run out, machineguns that don't overheat and cars that explode when you shot them with a pistol. "It looks cool" is hardly the only thing that matters, but we're kinda getting off topic here. Our current topic is tit armors. I will also reply to your earlier comment about women in combat in a medieval/fantasy setting.
Lets get to work.
To properly deal with this topic, let's first look at what we'll be dealing with.
1)In this setting, men and woman are treated at least equal enough to be both allowed to fight. That one should be obvious.
2)The woman we're looking at would be of average stature, with no extremes in either directions. In short, tits very clearly there, but not oversized.
3) We're looking that fights with either plate armor or a two-handed sword. It might be both at once, but at least one of them is true.
Now, let's start with the armor. You know what the most common armor was/would be in such a setting? A Gambeson, so flexible armor: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambeson
Most of your foot soldiers would wear this, or maybe chainmail if they were lucky/comparatively rich, because plate is ******* expensive! The only people who could affort plate armor were nobles. So we just ruled out the majority of the combatants, and thus the majority of fighting women.
Next, the sword. Swords, especially two-handers, are also very expensive(not as much as plate armor, but definitely when compared to any other weapon available), and, at least in real life, many countries outright forbade peasants to own two-handed swords. Thus, outside of nobility, you'd find about one or two dozen maces, axes, spears etc. for every sword, because those thins are a) much cheaper and b) require much less skill to use.
Now, lets go through our options:
1) Female foot soldier, wearing a gambeson, fighting with any weapon and a shield.
Her armor is soft, her breasts will be pushed out of the way. Also, she's fighting with a shield and a weapon, which can move separately. even if one arm is slightly blocked, the other is free to move.
No issue, NEXT!
2) Female fighter, using a longsword or similar two-handed blade, wearing a gambeson (or no armor) in a duel or small fight.
Again, flexible armor. Breasts will be a bit more of an issue, but nothing she can't handle, because when she owns and uses a sword, we can assume that she had substantial training with it, which means two things: She's gonna have an athletic build(small breats in the first place) and she's gonna be used to her own body and able to handle them.
Why did I specify duel? Because the only way you can get away without a shield in a mass fight is by wearing plate. Anything else is suicide, because people are going to gang up on you, and without a shield, you can defend against maybe two of them at once. And even if you somehow manage to defend against melee, some archer will be more than happy to finish you off.
NEXT! Continued below.
A noble woman in full plate, wielding a two-handed sword.
We assume some things:
1) She's wearing plate, so its a larger fight, because NOBDY puts on friggin' PLATE ARMOR if they don't expect a larger fight to happen soonish.
2) SHe's fighting front line, not commanding troops from somewhere back, so her armor is actual armor, not some ceremonial ******** .
3) As mentioned before, she'll be build like a fighter, and she'll be used to her own body.
Alright, here's what a sensible female knight would do: Instead of having metal tits that not only allow, but force her breats to be in the way, she'll squish them and press them together as much as possible, and wear either mens plate, or something that has a bit of extra room for tits, but spread somewhat evenly, with concentration towards the middle. Yes, it will be unfomfortable, but you don't put on plate to be comfortable, you put on plate to ******* STAY ALIVE, and this way, her tits will be permanently OUT OF THE WAY! Not hindering her, but leaving her free to move and fight as well as any man of same skill! Woo ******* hoo, we have achieved a miracle!
And now, we can start to make the armor identifiable and "Cool designed." Want a good example? Commander Shepard! SInce ME2, the armor is modular, and nobdy gives a crap about the actual form. But everyone who ever played Mass Effect instantly recognized its simple, three colour paint job, whether is on armor, a car, a bag or a ******* coffe mug! THats how you set a character apart, not by giving them metal tits or over-sized weapons!
they don't notice the armor, they notice the strip on the arm. that's the bit they notice. you're giving false credit to what people look at and instantly refer to something else with.
picture the reason why the simpsons are yellow. the reason they are, as the creators have stated, was that "if you're flipping through channels and you see that yellow ting on characters, you instantly know the show and will stop to watch it." That's the effectiveness of the red stripe on the shoulder/arm, not the armor since the red stripe is also on the hoodie and other n7 gear.
but you're not standing out for the character. You're not standing them out because it's not theirs. the brand, the fantasy world maybe, but not the character.
any character can wear the n7 blood stripe. hell, i have to rewatch but i'm pretty sure the jacket guy in new trailer has it. it's not shepards, it's mass effect's. it's not an identifying tool for the character, but series.
I'll kinda give you that one, but be honest, if you see a picture of a person in N7 armor, will your first thought be "Thats some random N7 soldier" or "Thats Commander Shepard?"
Also, I probably should apologize for getting into a rant about this. I just do HEMA fencing since several years and spend alot of my free time learning about medievel arms and armor; it's a topic I'm rather passionate about. <.<
until the new mass effect game where the new main character has the same stripe. it's like light sabers. before the prequels it was "oh, blue saber, that's obi's. Red is vader's." etc, but then the prequels came and it just became "sabers are starwars." it's not defined to one character like an outfit is, it's a weapon or identifying tool like badges on the arm in the military, which the n7 stripe technically is.
you're apologizing for human nature? Dude, no need. **** is factual, that's good **** . but you have to remember that "rule of cool" some times out rules facts in fantasy.
