Well it's not the most innovative game, i mean Smash bros. has always just been about nintendo characters (though they may be running out because i've never thought of "wii fit trainer" or the animal crossing guy as combat orientedcharacters) beating the **** out of each other since the first one came out back in 1999. i'm not saying it's going to be a bad game by any means but it's just a smash bros. game not the second coming of christ to issue in the golden age of the WII-U.
plus a cgi trailer can make any game look amazing by showing off things you either can't do in the game or are things you can do but look way less intense in game, like what fast food joints do with their food.
tldr; it will most likely be okay but nothing that will blow people away
Yes, Nintendo is very different. The only other company that has a reoccurring series of entertainment is only EVERY OTHER ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY IN THE ******* WORLD.
39 Legend of Zelda games
12 Metroid games
100+ Mario games
They don't have a recurring series of entertainment, they have a few dead horses and a defibrillator. They release another new game and what is it? A ******** of their pre-existing IP.
I bet you are going to say it's new and different because it has ******* Wii Fit trainer in it for ***** sake.
I'm sorry, but if you're going to argue that Nintendo is just like any other company - you're dead ******* wrong. Sequel after sequel, reboot after reboot - often adding little to functionality. Their tactic isn't exactly to make good, refined, fun games - it's to make a hundred games that piggyback previous successes, and see if one of them sticks (which statistically one will).
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Nintendo or even think it's necessarily a bad thing - but let's not kid ourselves.
>implying it's only going to have one new character (3 new characters are already confirmed)
>implying it's price is announced (granted, it probably will be ~60 bucks)
>implying there won't be any other core features introduced (SSBM had major re-working of combat system, while SSBB had things like Smash Balls and a good Story Mode)
just gonna say they released earthbound for the wii u virtual console today, and as long as they dont "fix" the glitches in wind waker hd they will have plenty of speedrunners buying the wii u for that which will just make the game more popular, not to even mention the other zelda comming for wii u that hasnt been announced yet
FJ only refuses images that are simply too big. I think it's 10.000x10.000 pixels but I'm not sure. Anything under that size, no matter how heavy it is, is fine
I'm guessing Photoshop, you can make quite beautiful GIF's in Photoshop if you mess around with the settings. Btw, the anon comment (#172) above is me, so if anyone knows the answers, please respond to this comment.
Dude, the timing of a joke is just as important as the content. You could just say one word at the right moment and it would be freaking hilarious. But another XBox vs PS joke on a site that was getting pretty bored of them is just not funny.
Aye, it sucks he got the thumbs and you didn't but time and a place y'know?
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Xbone doing worse in the public eye than the WiiU? Heck most people don't have too much bad to say about WiiU, they just prefer the exclusives for other consoles and less hardware limitations.
Right now, the MS is pretty hated and therefore so is the xbone (the policies everyone hated were reveresed, but it's still $100 too expensive and forces people to buy into that kinect gimmick.) The policy reverse at the drop of a hat after all that time saying it couldn't be done and wouldn't be done (all because ps4 was dominating in preorders) caused many to see MS as shifty and untrustworthy as well.
Wii U is just mostly irrelevant. Yeah, it's great if you like the same Nintendo franchises once every 3 years or whenever they can finally make them that have existed since the 80s out on it, but the online blows, it's hardly stronger than a 360/ps3, and pretty much every 3rd party dev making amazing games isn't even considering ports for it.
Therefore, xbox is getting slaughtered in a 2-man war while wii u sits in the mud off to the sidelines accomplishing nothing.
why do people hate the Wii U so much?
Just because it doesn't have the lovely "HARDCORE M RATED GAMES THAT ONLY REAL GAMERZ PLAY" doesn't mean it's not good
Personally the reason I don't like the Wii U is because it doesn't feel like a next gen console. It took me a full 6 months to figure out that the Wii U wasn't just that clunky giant controller but actually an entirely new system. The only reason I would buy a Wii U is to play Legend of Zelda or Super smash brothers.
No they won't, because if you've played any 3D Zelda or SSB game, you've played them all.
Those games will only draw people who are already Nintendo gamers.
The Wii U will not gain anywhere near the popularity of the Wii because all the casuals already own a Wii and won't have any need for a new console.
And since their console is again awful compared to the PS4/XbOne80, they will once again lose third party support, meaning the only good games on the console will be first party rehashes identical mechanically to the Nintendo 64.
The general problem I've heard of is that they had terrible launch titles and that 3rd parties don't want to develop for them for one reason or another.
My personal issue is that I don't like many of their first party titles they've been bringing gamers the same games just updated a little each time for the past 20 years.
Because Nintendo is the worst offender when it comes to identical franchises.
Pokemon, Zelda, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart/2D/3D/Paper, Metroid.
They've just been making the same games over and over for decades, with even less variation than most series. (While Fallout>Fallout 3 was a massive gameplay change, Pokemon Red>Pokemon White is virtually no change other than the graphics and a few formula changes underneath the game.
Occassionally there is a new IP which might be interesting (I'm definitely watching X), but it's very rare.
Probably because its confusing (What is it, a controller? A mobile console?), has little support (seems every time I go on to gamespot another developer/publisher has expressed disinterest in the wiiu), and because Sony/MS are pumping out all these new IPs now while nintendo just re-releases franchises.
the controller is possibly the best and most comfortable i`ve ever held, and I`ve held the 360 controller (known for being the most comfortable controller ever)
Exactly. Many people brush aside all the great franchises of Nintendo because they arent mature. Nintendo has the hardest games and also the most fun games, they just available for any age group to play. I wish more people would make the move to the Wii U so I can. The only reason I like Xbox more is because all my friends have it.
I've been with Nintendo since the SNES
To be quite honest, I've been brushing it aside lately because the only good games, really, are Zelda and Mario nowadays, and I'm getting somewhat bored with them.
FPS + Metroid = **********
Smash Bros is good but the real issue is that Nintendo are playing the long game. They're not taking chances like the other developers and frankly it's working for them. That said they're also being very clever about when they do release new games or remake old franchises because they use platforms like Smash Bros to introduce the characters into the vox populi and gauge public interest as they did with Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus.
Nintendo is the guy you go to if you want to be assured of quality. Sony/XBox are the guys you go to who are hit and miss but when they hit it it's a home-run.
they are all the same, Microsoft/Sony are just have more money to ''throw away'', if you truly want something new and groundbraking get a PC and play indie games.
The Wii has the highest sales out of any system of all time. A lot of people wait between generation and buy every other console. Nintendo had to expect that the Wii U sales would be slow at first.
If you play sports game like Madden or Fifa or NHL, you notice a majority of people buy every other year. This happens a lot with consoles too. The Wii sold more consoles than any other device. Nintendo had to expect that the Wii U sales would be down a little bit.
And who cares if I am a Nintendo fanboy, they are the most popular gaming company in the world. So basically if you complain about me liking Nintendo, you are arguing against the biggest group of gamers.
fanboy implies that you are a mindless lover of it, regardless if they put out anything good. and believe me im not arguing with "the biggest group of gamer", only a child would actually think thats the case. im arguing with a with a lost cause that is most likely to stubborn. and realistically ios/android would be the dominant platform
I am not that into playing Nintendo systems because no one else does. They just have all the most sold systems and all the top gaming franchises are Nintendo exclusive. I am actually a Xbox fanboy and plan only buying the Xbox One out of all the new consoles. Nintendo just makes it way to hard to argue against them not being the dominant gaming franchise.
And I also agree with you that IOS/Android might be the dominant platform. But the main argument against that is that most phones do not have the storage capacity to hold big and full games. Also, they are not meant for gaming, they are meant for calls and texts. Most gamers would not count phones are a gaming platform. even though they have the capability to be.
well considering latest android phones are 2.3 ghz quad cores, and even octo cores. id say they are good contenders. also the most sold system is the ps2 (slightly over the DS) but granted nintendo sold the most consoles. but if you want to be technical nintendo is the least profitable out of the bunch since all consoles are sold at a loss and gain revenue from sales of 3rd party games, which Nintendo seriously lacks. but it just depends on your perspective
it's not even second, it's 5th, and even if you only count home consoles the wii still is only 3 overall and it's sales pale in comparison to both the ps2's and DS's numbers
People hate the Wii U because many of its games are either geared towards casual players or provide nothing new (please don't bring the whole "Call of Duty every year" **** , because, yes, I know, and there's idiots everywhere). I'm dead tired of seeing Nintendo characters that are as old as the goddamn company. Their systems have gimmicks to attract casual easily-impressed consumers like 3D in the 3DS, or the Wii's motion controller, or the Wii U's screen in the controller. None of these features are "game changing" or make a difference; "people" don't give 3 ***** about these things. They want to see a bigger immersive world, better graphics, more in-depth gameplay features; things so simple yet important like longer draw-distance, better anti-aliasing, stable game conditions with multiple actors on screen, better fluid animations, persistent decals; you know, things that make you say "holy **** ."
Yeah, almost no games really take advantage of the GamePad's true potential. The only really good games out for it right now are Nintendo Land & Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition
I agree that PC is the superior platform, but consider this, it's got a very high-entry bar. If you don't know what you're doing you can't use it properly, plus you have to find the good parts yourself and then put it together on your own. Some folks just want to put in a CD and get playing.
I'd love to be a PC gamer, but I haven't the time or skill needed to build a decent gaming computer.
You don't any skill, and you don't need too much time to build a good pc. All you need is money, ask someone on a gaming forum to configure a pc for x amount of money and that's it. Next thing go to a store where they sell and build PC's, order the stuff you need, let them build it and you're ready to go
And what changes have been made to it? I'm not being condescending with that question, either. From the look of it, the controller is the main difference.
Way better graphics, an awesome online store, more powerful than the PS3 or 360 (will be outdone by the PS4 and Xbone, but still), the controller allows for 5 players and way better non-symmetrical multi-player, and you can play full console games (like New Super Mario Bros U) on the pad while others watch the TV.
Thanks for the explanation. Improved hardware, but what sets it apart seems to mainly be the controller. I can see how that would be a benefit, I just wouldn't buy it.
And hell, this conversation alone proves how wrong the anon commenter we're all replying to is. "Why does everyone hate the Wii U?" From experience here, that's like someone saying "Why does everyone hate Pizza?"
Some Nintendo fans get pretty touchy, don't they?
For games where the second screen isn't extensively used, yes. For example, since the Mario Game doesn't use the controller screen for anything other than multiplayer, you can play it single player on the gamepad without use of the TV. Same thing goes for a few of the games on Nintendoland, but not for games like ZombiU which use the bottom screen a lot.
Another use is going on Youtube/Netflix on your Gamepad while other people watch a different show on the same TV that the WiiU is plugged into.
A bit better hardware than xbox360 and ps3 and a new os with new things. Don't ask me what are the new things because I don't have a Wii U so I don't know.
I'm guessing Final Fantasy XV: The Movie The Game,
Or more likely since this is dissing Nintendo, X, the only new and interesting IP to have come out on a Nintendo console in two decades. (No need to disprove me, INTERESTING is an opinion. I'm saying it's the only new and interesting IP that has actually ever made me consider buying a Nintendo console.)
It's a Mech open world game (or at lead "large landscapes) which looks a bit like Monster Hunter.
The fact is, Nintendo has been making the same games for two decades.
I've played multiple Zelda games, multiple SSB games, all the Pokemon games, a couple Mario games, and at least one game in each of their other major IP's (excluding Pikmen), and while they aren't terrible games, they are nothing special.
They are just a brand, the same brand remade with as much similarity as a CoD game.
You can find better games of the same genre on other systems (console or PC) which actually have some variety rather than being the exact same game made for the fifth time.
If you like Nintendo and want to play Nintendo, go ahead, I just hate the ******** of Nintendo fanboys acting like Nintendo games are the best, and all other games are ripping off Nintendo, just because that's the console they owned as a kid.
Am I the only one that likes sitting around and debating on which console we think it's better? It's like a competition and I think it's cool when different sides share there point of view on something for the love of gaming, regardless if you are P.C, Xbox, Wii, or PS4, I'm glad that we can all come together and share our opinion and fun while doing it. With that said...
Xbox One stills sucks herpe-infested horse cock, Hail the glorious PS4.
Nintendo has got it right. They make consoles with average hardware, which lowers the cost of each one produced and makes it easier to develop games for. Their self-produced titles may be rehashes of older games, but that's not a bad thing if it's still fun. It might be soylent green but it sure is tasty. Since each console is cheaper to make, it can be sold for less and still have similar profit margins to competing consoles. Are there more good games for xbox and playstation than for wii? I think so, but that's just my opinion. The point is that Nintendo has the highest market saturation, and the games that are good for Wii will reach a wider audience than the games that are good for 360 and PS3. And the 3DS is so widespread that I think they actually spontaneously pop into existence next to bored people.
1) Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft - all very different companies.
2) Hardly fair to throw up 13 free years to Nintendo. And then not include 2011 for Sony. Should have just done '95-'10
3) This isn't really representative of success. Microsoft may be negative there, but guess whose hundreds of times larger than Nintendo and pretty much still runs the entire world?
Why i'm not getting a PS4 - $400
Why i'm not getting a Xbox One - $500
Why I got a Wii U - Already knew to a degree what games Nintendo are going to release.
Just because of the PS4 and Xbox One, i'm trying to save up for a decent gaming computer.
...so because of the cost of the systems, you're going to buy a gaming computer, which assuming you aren't building one, the cheapest i've ever seen was around 1300, more than the wii-u,ps4 and xbox one combined
Then he has a computer, better than all of those systems, that he won't need to go out and buy another one. I built my computer, almost all of it. I borrowed my graphics card from a friend buy mine was under 1000 dollars. Best investment of my life. Dealing with consoles is just a pain in the ass
If you build it yes its def worth it but buying a gaming computer, which by that i mean a computer specifically built for gaming not just a good comp, is just a waste of money
I will agree, im never going to buy a computer already built. You save so much money doing it yourself, its not that hard, and it will almost always be a better computer.
defiantly, though even if i had the perfect gaming computer i would still want systems, even if the graphics there are always a couple good exclusives plus if something were to happen to the comp you have a fallback till you fix it
it didnt really cost much in comparison to others buildscost me around $650, took awhil ot get parts and all that for cheap cause i used craigslist but i got a good deal on the processor, case, and motherboard for $200
was it one advertised for gaming? when you said gaming computer i assume you mean a comp built specifically for gaming which any computer i've seen advertised like that was ridiculously expensive. I'm not talking about good computers, which are essentially the same except they're fine tuned for gaming, I'm talking about the ones which are meant for gaming only
his was advertised as a gaming computer, it was a good deal I suppose if he didn't want to build one. it has a fairly decent graphics card and he can run his games pretty good. I believe he plays games on high quality, not ultra but I've never heard him complain about frame loss
then watever, though in my opinion if you're going to get a gaming comp you're better off building it or getting someone to build it for you, you can customize it however you want, avoid putting in **** you'll never use and it'll save you alot of cash in the long run
i honestly have never seen a gaming comp for that cheap, either you're friend got lucky or all the comps where i live are overpriced
i agree but i was just saying that was my friends case, i built my own. i don't agree with purchasing one either because its more expensive, some people just dont want to deal with building one. i made mine for less and i have much better specs than his
