Here's a question, what do you think about the prospect of an internet culture where having your own, dedicated reaction images just becomes a social norm? It would be good for artists, giving them work, but I do wonder what other factors would show their heads.
A wonderfull idea, but... then again, I can't draw...
Gotta say, it's a difficult topic, since the most of us just want to spread the word, letting the users know of our mostly overlooked games, and simply have fun. I've had arguments with maaaaany different Mr. Wrights here, since everyone can just take his place, and have a little fun with me, arguing like in court.
There are btw. also the most thumbed comments I ever get, my record stands by 300 I think... and these arguments are most of the time 5-16 replies long. And man, I really do browse too much around, finding viridi posts too often. Sorry for answering that in your stead.
I don't think she minds. In fairness to what you're saying the issue there would become finding one's own identity. You're the guy who acts like Miles Edgeworth, however if everyone starts acting like characters not only are there not enough characters to go around but if everyone did it there'd be no identity to claim in doing it anymore.
It raises an interesting question as I said having your own, dedicated avatar, but not specifically an avatar linked to an existing character. E.G: I could probably have 'Snowshark' avatars made and through that create my own character, akin to how Phanact and ************ have their own identities tied to their online personas.
We would see people starting to build identities for themselves and not simply borrowing them from existing characters (though those would undoubtedly still be around).
However, the trick really would be what it would mean for reaction images. How would people deal with reaction images? Would they only use their own ever or would they only use their own when they don't have a relevant image.
What would it mean to website format if every comment contained a picture and what would it do for website membership if anons don't really get to join in with having identities?
These aren't the questions that keep me up at night, but they're fun to ruminate on, no?
If you and/or vegetableviridi (or anyone else for that matter) wants to discuss it I figure this would be a nice discussion, especially as the internet seems to be steadily growing less and less about being an anon and more about being a local celebrity.
(Also, if I were to champion a game that was overlooked it'd be Fur Fighters? Never heard about it? You're not alone. It's a genuine hidden gem of video games. Not something that never achieved a mainstream playerbase like Kid Icarus or Phoenix Wright, but a game that almost nobody has played and was genuinely magnificent. If you wanna know more, just ask. However now I'm running low on characters.
I normaly am using my own online identity, having my own persona and character bound to it, but since I wanted to use it as a gamedev mascot... well, until I'm proven to be one worthy of it, I'll maybe start using it here.
But I really have to say, I rather used Edgeworth, since I really like discussions, know a lot trivia/law things, and have a strife for perfection (not in my grammar tho...). When everyone had their own character, that would truly be great. Everyone would be "that" guy, and not just... some random who got 600 thumbs in a top comment once in a lifetime. Or the guy who ate gummybears and shi- ... okay maybe that's gonna work.
What I want to say it, there isn't really a downside, but the problem would be, that no one does know, how they truly are. I love being edgeworth, but I'm faaaar more friendly&caring, I have sides on me, that wouldn't fit him well. But on FJ, that wouldn't really matter.
Well, the personas would also evolve as the people's experiences on the website evolved too. And artists on DA would probably get flooded with commissions, which I personally think is the best part of all of this (well, hypothetically) because it would severely legitimise going into art as a career (if you're good at it, I mean).
However, the real downside to it all I suppose is what people do with it when they don't have their own identities, like how you use Edgeworth someone else probably would want to too. In which case, who is in the right, if either of you are or even if neither of you are. It's an interesting idea, since everybody on the internet has only one truly distinguishing factor about them, that being their personas (includes their personality and actions) whereas in the real life we are far, far more recognisable.
Perhaps that concept of championing persona as a norm would do the world good, with people growing up surrounded by more and more vibrant people and the world being less consumed with the generic and the dull. The biggest problem facing the world today is apathy because it is what is allowing people to so thoroughly take advantage of how nobody will rise to stop them, perhaps if there were more passion in peoples' personas on the internet it would spread outwards to their real life. Miserable an example though they may be there's no denying the passion of the neo-feminist movement, something that was generated almost exclusively through the pressure-cooker of online personas getting more and more radical and that radicalism spreading from person to person.
Hence it's not out of the realms of possibility that change in internet culture can lead to sweeping affectations, if not full change in the outside world, it is simply the question of if such a change on the net would lead to that sort of change in real life.
I'm not that good at discussing on long topics like these. I'm not even sure if i fully understand what I read here (I read through multiple times.). All I can say is that my thoughts are pretty much synonymous with edgeworthy's posts. I don't have a good reason for picking Viridi as my character to use though other than she my favorite character in her respective game and said game isn't widely talked about on here. Sure, i'll play the part and act like her for some replies my my own personality is vastly different from her real one. (Mainly the part where she wants to obliderate every human in existence.)
Regular boring accounts that do nothing at all other than occasionally get a few thumbs with a funny picture related to the content, or a clever comment that will get a lot of thumbs but the user will be forgotten after the first day aren't fun at all. I have another account on here that I haven't used in a long long time because of how boring it was to just 'scroll, scroll, make comment, it gets up thumbed, then down thumbed, scroll, scroll' and it's probably the reason I haven't bothered with this site again until now.
This new account has only been active for a couple days and i'm already having an insane amount of fun compared to my last account, and i'm honestly not doing anything different other than using Viridi with my comments.
This is just my speculation here but if I was able to cause this much differing opinions on my account, mostly on the good side, then it just goes to show that its not just me who's bored with the whole "Internet anonymity" thing.
Personally I'm cool with the 'internet anonymity' thing, and even our online personas aren't truly representations of who we are, merely putting names in front of still entirely anonymous persons.
However I do see your point there. Personally I've always enjoyed just posting because I'd like to think I'm actually pretty funny and I get a good laugh out of thinking of funny comments to post as well as occasionally diving into interesting discourse with other people in the comments section, however I have also had conversations where I have, at times, played the part of a 'Snowshark' for comedic effect, and I enjoyed that too.
I don't think dedicated avatars becoming a thing would be all that bad, however I do think it has the potential to become very cancerous very quickly. Posting an avatar pic with every comment will make the concept wear thin quickly and ideally should be kept for times in which that pic accentuates the conversation.
Atop that I fear the avatar might well 'become' the persona which is a little saddening. E.G: Phanact is known for being Phanact but not every comment he makes is entirely dependent on him being Phanact.
I just think it's boring to me, it's not a bad thing.
I meant to put this in my earlier statement, having artists draw up your own personal reactions is a good idea in my opinion. I would post more varying reactions of Viridi, but the problem with that is that there isn't really anything noteworthy out there other than a few really good pieces of work but those aren't really reaction. Artists need all the work they can get, and I would gladly pay for it if it actually does become a thing. For now though, i'm limited to her in game portraits.
And I pretty much agree to the bottom statement too.
Things don't become things without people inspiring them to become things. If you really enjoy having those reaction pics so much and you're willing to pay, get some more made. Who knows, it might catch on.
Palutena is........ how do I phrase this..... way too lazy and weak to be head goddess. when the parasite thingamajig took her over, Pit fought her, and won.
Look at all this buttmaddness.
Somebody call a mofuggin doctor so he can prescribe some "Chill the **** Out, Posting Their Picture Is a Thing That They Do, Get The **** Over It and Move On"
Posting comments with completely unrelated images, ones that aren't really even reaction images, just for the sake of having some sort of a "persona" online or some **** is ******* stupid.
How about using images that are somehow related to the things you're saying, like in his case a bioshock picture or some **** like that?
What was the point of his picture? "here's 10 pictures of mai waifuu"?
Actually, come to think of it, if it catches on artists might actually get some steady work making avatars... eh, I guess that would be kind of a mixed blessing.
There is a "slight" difference, my dear sir.
Avatarfagging/Characterworshipping like uchialover is ******* stupid.
Impersonating your idol, having a gimmick, and beeing able to respond like a normal human being is pretty much... fine here.
I mean, I even submit content here now and then, frontpage isn't that rare... but then again, I do it rarely on this account.
Not the same thing. Avatarfagging is basically having a reaction image folder consisting of only one character, and then posting that character in every comment you make, regardless of whether the picture actually contributes to the comment itself in any way or not.
Is it cancer ? Don't joke about Cancer like it's some funny little joke, has your life been affected by it? have you seen people go through the pain and anguish that it causes?
If you have and you still find it appropriate to use that word then you are pretty sick. If not... well then think of the other people in the world who have to deal with it daily and stop using that ******* word as a joke!
According to google cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body.
From that sentence, replace "cells" with "behaviour" or "memes" or some other **** , and replace "body" with "internet" and you have yourself what people call "internet cancer".
You don't have to be offended by things on the internet, you know? It's like you want to be offended, like you're looking for a reason to get mad.
You should stop that kind of a behaviour because it's fairly cancerous.
Why do you people always **** on COD and praise Battlefield? These are very similar games except for the amount of runnning-around, the community is 12 years olds in both of these titles. Stop being such elitists and play your degenerative shooters, kids.
And here you can witness a mockup of what is widely considered as a childish and thus irrelevant opinion... Oh and we're in luck, here comes the red thumbs
0 proper criticism (sucks dick/for kid with autism), going for the easy TF2 is casual/COD is such a good game (12 years old max) approach makes it obvious. If it followed a name like XxXQuicksC0p3z666XxX I could have understood why it looked so retarded but that's not the case, you're obviously a troll (and a bad one at that).
Basically you're jsut throwing **** at the wall and hope some of it sticks, keep on trying kiddo, your idiocy entertains me, I have nothing to do atm so no problem for me there.
I don't really like any of them. I like cs:go but it feels somewhat weird without the iron sights. But they get away with it because the rest is balanced and fun.
