my old pc couldn't run it, so every time someone brought it up i got a bit sad, but for xmas i got a new computer and it's a beast.
also the book is great.
I am but a lonely console plebian. While other XCOM fans liberate the earth, I'll still be punching the same muton beserkers in the face for years to come. Feels bad, man.

Installation is pretty easy. The gist of it that you'll get a zip with a folder you need to drop in a specific folder in Steam, and then set the skin in Steam settings. There's a readme for details.
I am cautiously optimistic.
The game industry has a nasty habit of releasing a new good game, then drowning the second one with bad practices, such as micro payments and all the other stuff. But knowing the company it shouldn't happen. I am just saying if it does, I wouldn't be surprised.
I doubt a turn based game would have micro transactions, xcom enemy unknown did have that one dlc that was just cosmetics, but that was optional and still cheap. I'm just worried about the implementation of new mechanics and such. but fireaxis has a good record so far, so im optimistic.
frankly i really dont care about the number of cosmetic dlcs a game has, assuming that hasnt taken away from the development time of the actual game of course
Right, and I have been mostly happy with their products in the past. And they are a far fry from Ubisoft and EA, but these types of business models are becoming more and more popular, so its just something that make cautious, but I still expect the best from Firaxis. And more than likely it will be good, but i am still going to wait for reviews and user experiences before I go and drop $60 dollars for it. But if it does live up to hype and the reviews, then I will happily pay $60 dollars for it.
Firaxis is a developing studio that has releases ranging from from pretty good to god like, and 2k is fairly good with not being greedy and wasteful, especially in regards to Firaxis games.
I'm hyped but I just found out my Laptop didn't reach the requirements to play it and the PC I will be building won't be finished until a month after it comes out...
Naw man, I'm just way to committed to my bad joke. Some jokers probably do make their own parts. I mean, I considered making some custom liquid cooling with my friend for my last rig. But we decided not to
>EW
>Find the VIP after playing incredibly slowly on a high level mission
>Killed 2 Mutons who were guarding the room with the VIP, no other aliens seen
>Find VIP
>Move Assault next to door to leave next round
>Move VIP right behind him
>Pathing decides to run VIP 4 inches farther to the right than the Assault did closer to the window
>Thin Man snipes him on a reaction shot from across the map through the window for a 19 damage crit
95% hit chance with my entire squad... No one hits for two rounds except one guy once who got in a **** hit the enemy regained from immediately. I have never been so mad, especially as I was playing at IronMan mode.
You either lose with a team full of people who aim like Octodad, or live long enough to see yourself ask "Can my MECH win a punch out against that Sectopod?"
If you ever need help with the game, hit me up. I have 198 hours and all the achievements for this game and can help you with any problems you may have.
The only one I don't got is beating the game on classic without buying a squad size upgrade (enemy within). I've blown through normal dozens of times, often with red mist and ironman activated and my assaults having expensive new plasma rifles before even mechtoids deploy. But my **** keeps getting wrecked the moment I up the difficulty.
The Obvious Answer: Reload saves; this one does not require Ironman
The Perfect Scenario: 2 Squadsight Snipers, A support, and a filler
For this one, you don't want to play as aggressive as you would on others. Just take your time and do the minimum needed to win. EU/EW does not require a time limit, so if you want to force the clock to benefit your difficulty curve, you have all the time in the world.
The best way to start off a classic is to go Africa and claim South America as soon as possible, or go Asia and defend Africa as soon as possible; while saving SA as a luxury. If you can get Engineers on your first mission, that works out well, however If you can rush Scientists instead you'll get Lasers by your second month, and sweep the game from there.
are your problem in the battles? getting rekt by the thinmen who have super aim annoying poison?
common newbie mistakes are splitting your troops up too much. the larger your squad is, the more likely you are to be spotted by additional groups of aliens. it also helps you with keeping all your power focused in one place.
it is often worth it to expend item slots and turns to use smoke grenades and flashbangs: they keep your troops alive.
always make your riskiest moves first. chosing which squad member moves first is crucial to success on the battlefield. therefore, you should look at all the moves availible to you before you make any of them.
when one or more enemies go on overwatch, you should ask yourself these questions, in roughly this order: "Can i RELIABLY kill them all in this turn, from my current positions/without triggering the owerwatch?" "can i cancel the overwatch with supression or flashbang?" "can i safely sit still and hunker down without getting flanked, letting them make a mistake/come to me (will i get grenaded/poisoned?)" "can i SAFELY run the owerwatch with a lightning reflexes assault?"
when you are considering running up to flank an enemy, ask yourself these questions first: "have i secured that ground with scans or other vision already?" "can the flankee's buddies flank me on their turn?" "does the flanking soldier have a safe spot to retreat to after going forward?" "can the rest of my squad save my agressive soldier if i activate new enemies?" "will my agressive soldier end up in the way for my back-up grenades/rocket?" "what do i do when i miss/roll low damage?"
i find turning on 100% critical on a flank highly effective. you just need to be mindful when positioning your own troops. And plan your buildings. Make sure you leave space to make same-type adjacent buildings for that bonus. Also always use the Steam tiles for power.
and anyone planning to play or have played XCOM needs to Download the "Long War" mod. it makes the game soooooooo much better.
On my first playthrough my soldier managed to miss a 96% shot, which in turn meant I lost a soldier that was protecting some other guy and in the end I lost everyone in what should've been an easy clear.
Right now I'm at the invade the alien base mission first one, if there's more of them and the whole thing is ridiculous. Lots of Chryssalids, flying robot things and some hulk like monster. I just quit without saving and will try again whenever I get a masochistic streak again.
apart from your soldiers not being able to hit anything? it's long
they make research and such take a lot longer to complete, they slow down the holo-globe spin, soldiers now need rest after a mission so instead of 6 super soldiers you need about 24, 3 full rosters of 8
I think the max you can take in a mission is 12 soldiers, but only for the special story missions
I've been playing for a while, grenades are useful, but they also changed the grenades to do 1-3 damage instead of just 3
they have various types of grenades, 2 small item slots, rookies start with random starting items, of which you have an infinite pool, a lot more weapon variety
basically everything is harder, slower and more variety
it's what XCOM should have been instead of what it is
boring.
im sorry i know im in the minority, but the long war mod is so ******* boring. im okay with slow passed/hard games. but im sorry the long war mod is just uninteresting. it takes what was a well balanced game and just makes it anal ******* rape. almost everything it adds just slows the game to a snails pace and take all enjoyment out of it for me.
it's not to the point i felt like it was ******** , just to the point i really didn't have any fun. all it really does is increase the enamys health and damage along with their accuracy.
