So last summer I spent 100+ hours crafting my dream cosplay for my first ever convention. I also spent well over 5 hours a week at the gym for over a year putting on some weight. (about 10-15lbs)

It was a lot easier than I thought but also a lot more expensive, having budgeted 150 bucks and ended up spending well over 300 for materials. I don't own any special cosplay tools and most of what you see was made with a straight razor and styrofoam.

Making the neck brace was a challenge but thank you youtube and other Pyramid Head Cosplayers for the ideas I shamelessly stole and combined. The sword is made of all the leftover materials from the helmet and neck brace.

Used the dimensions and designs of both the homecoming and movie versions of Pyramid Head when I created this cosplay. Added my own flare here and there where people won't really notice.

Entered the cosplay contest in the "villain" category (though technically...) and spent 3 hours waiting in line to go on stage, show off my work, and then wait for the results. Had a blast and did not expect to win or even come close to winning BUT THEN...

I lost just like I thought. However I found it very interesting who I lost to. Here is a picture of me standing next to the eventual winner of the 1000 dollar prize. I may be a little biased and butt hurt but.... nevermind...

I prefer your costume, his robe looks kinda ****** in comparison and his blade looks like a low level greatsword from a 2nd rate rpg.

yeah sorry bro looks like you got shafted, he may have been friends with or known the judges in some way, definitely 100 times better than his.
The small details on the helmet alone are so much better than his.

If I ever would go about it I would definitely go as Deathstroke.
All you would need is to buy motorcycle gear and then add some accent colouring, helmet, weapons, and accessories.
And bam suddenly you got a badass costume.

Add a bulletproof vest and you're ready for the happenings.

Awh mate, that's grim =/ Suck you didn't win. I believe your costume is way better, actually looks like skin stitched together.

The head and the cover are ace... I would say the Sword could use some work. But it looks alright either way.

Yeah, the sword isn't quite up to the quality of the helmet and brace but I was happy with how it came out from spare pieces of Styrofoam and cardboard.

Also for those of you who havent been in a cosplay competition, its not all about looks, its about: Accuracy, quality of production, and creativity, as well as a minor amount of how in-character you act on stage

This is my group from my last con, we won best NOVICE group with a prize of $120 (we spent it on 1am ihop) like.. bruh, you should not have lost to that guy, the quality of work of the dude on the left is not even worthy of winning a novice competition in any of the cons I go to.

When I entered this contest there was amazing cosplays that were hands down better than mine. I was fully expecting not to win, but to lose to someone wearing my same costume is where the sadness came in.

Sick group cosplay though!

Probably guys who were buddy buddy with the guy himself, particularly if they gauged it off the audience applause. Higher placing always gets ambiguous, so you get room for bias in the judges.

The judges were relatively well known cosplayers that I can't recall and Jason David Frank (the green ranger). Met the guy in the other costume before we went on stage and he was cool, nothing to hint that he had any upper hand bias going for him.

Why didn't you go with the cuts! You could have also put on these gloves (Pic related) and covered them in dye as well as your skirt.

Your costume was still awesome though, I don't know how he won over yours...

You should have given him a few cuts for stealing your thunder... That's why you can't make your blade out of Styrofoam, I bet if you had dragged him down the hall like the real Pyramid Head you would have won for being 100% canon.

i want to say, the onyl reason you lost is because He chose to cosplay the Silent Hill 2 Pyramid head, where you made the Silent Hill Homecomming pyramid head.

This is the Silent Hill 2 Pyramid Head. He did his off the movie one as well. We talked about how we both choose to do the movie version and not the silent hill 2 one. He mentioned he was working on a SH2 version but this one is (pretty clearly) not the SH2 version.

Pic is what SH2 Pyramid Head looks like for those confused.

how does that have to do with anything?

if the cosplay looks better it should win. it wasn't like the OP took the design out of his ass. it was accurate, more accurate than that thing the winner had. even if they were "different pyramind heads" from different games/movies, you can clearly say that the winners one was kinda bad, even if it's design "is supposed to be bad". there was not as much effort put into it and OP's pyramid head outshines the winners... but apparently they were aiming to be the same costume from the movie or something.

the only thing that should matter in a cosplay competition is how accurately you were able to mimic the design and the character. OP actually looks like a real pyramid head and the winner... is actually a bit goofy looking tbh.
