I had really high hopes for this game(long time original MechWarrior series fan), but after a couple of years in beta with almost no new content, my hype died.It was a bummer that instead of adding new mechs, they added champion/hero mechs(which are basically the same mechs with different skin and loadouts) for cash - it's on the borderline of P2W, but I wouldn't call it that, it's more of a grey area.

However I still recommend this game, it's one of the best out there if you want a more slow paced and tactical shooter. There are tons of weapon combinations and modules and last time I checked, they were all available for in game currency. There is also something very satisfying in breaking an arm off the enemy mech with your lazors.

Honorable mention: Hawken, another mech game, more fast paced(with active dodging!), the maps are one of the best maps I've ever encountered in any game, both in strategic and artistic value. A must stry, imo, if you're into mechs.

Both of the games have their merits and should be given a try.

I never like hawken, but with the 52 chassis available for cbills now, it's definitely improved since the first year and a half of development, the real challenge is how they're trying to make clan mechs "balanced" at the moment

Do missiles still cause heat?
That **** pisses me off and makes zero sense

missiles still cause heat, since canonically they do I don't see a point to complain about it. LRMs and SRMs in battletech are described as "Primitive and Inefficient even by todays standards", which explains not only why each missile costs only about $5000 bucks, and possibly the reason why they still generate heat, somehow.

SRM's make sense since all of that heat is pretty much going into the chest, but for the LRM's on shoulder mounted pods?

Well, I suppose just think about 20+ 5kg tubes fire enough propellant directly against the back of the catapult pod (It doesn't have a vent for the gas to escape through, the "ear" is taking all the heat)
