the thing isnt memorizing. it's habits and muscle memory. an example of this is menuing in 3ds and xbox games when decline and accept are switched on the consoles.
Wow I have the same problem. I was doing something on Netflix on the Xbox for my mom and I kept clicking B instead of A because I've been playing a lot of 3DS lately
It's also always blue whenever colors are involved... which is extra annoying. If it was just a change in position, but the colors were also different then it would be fine.
Well a game screen won't say "press the left corner button on the right hand side", it will say "press the X button" and so you have to try and remember where the X button is.
And yeah, most games key the buttons to the functions by button position, rather than button label, but there are often two different locations for that button function. "Jumping" for example is either the bottom ( A / B / X ) button, or the top ( Y / X / ∆ ) button. So if a game is telling you to "Press X to jump," it could be very confusing.
Some games do it differently but it's generally the same
Like on menus, right button to go back, bottom button to select
Ingame the bottom button is mostly used for jump and top switches weapons and left reloads etc.
But if you're used to pressing A to jump and a game on another console tells you to press X, you're not going to be confused for long, because it's the same action with the same button and it becomes memory like it does with the other controller
i mostly just have to re-set my mind between playstation and xbox every time
i always went by position for the SNES controller, rather than letter, and only played gamecube for the first time recently and thats just weird
