RNG and randomized levels are so lazy.
With all the money FTL got they could have done way more than they did, the lazy cunts.
Would it kill them to add some content?
I understand it completely. It's just retarded.
An easy way for devs to slap something together and spend zero time on pacing and making a nice difficulty curve.
"I died on the first world despite playing perfectly and making no mistakes!"
"LOL ITS A ROGUELITE FAGGT"
That's the whole ******* point of it, you nimrod - there's no "right way" to do things, there's no optimal route, you can do things flawlessly like a min/maxing fag and still lose. It's meant to be unfair and full of ******** , so it's actually satisfying to win. Games with a proper difficulty curve don't give you that feeling. Do you yell " **** YEAH! SUCK IT, GAME! I AM THE GREATEST!" and flip off your screen for two minutes after beating CoD? No. After beating a Fallout game? No. After beating a Souls game or Bloodborne? No. But you can bet your ******* ass you're gonna lose your **** when you beat FTL on hard, because you did not just beat the game. You beat luck. RNGsus kept kicking you in the dick and you STILL won.
That is the reason people like rogue-likes. If you don't like it, it doesn't mean it's bad. It just means you don't like it. Some people like random ******** . Some people like having a controlled experience. Some people want a guaranteed victory. Others play Dwarf Fortress.
You know there's flavors of ice cream other than vanilla and chocolate, right? It's called variety. Some people like unfair games, so unfair games exist. If there weren't a market for them, they wouldn't be a thing.
What if I want a flavor that would be really good if it didn't have random turd chunks sprinkled throughout? Oh and since no one can finish the whole thing unless they're lucky enough to get a turd free scoop, they didn't bother putting it in a cone, so you keep dropping it so you have to keep starting over.
That's like saying "There's no reason they didn't make the enemies in Dark Souls easier and the combat faster.". If they made it more structured and fair, it wouldn't be a roguelike. If you keep changing the fundamentals of a genre, you end up with a different genre. Like how Fallout 4 is basically an FPS.
I'm not saying change the game mechanics.
In FTL you can make all the right decisions and still get ****** over, like if every shop is selling drones and you're not doing a drone run. In Dork Soles if you die it's your fault.
Yes, because one of them is a roguelike and the other isn't. OK, you know, what? We just went full circle. This is stupid. Let's just agree to disagree, cause we are clearly not going anywhere.
Rogue games r dumb. You are that dog in the house fire.
"Yes, please, **** me over and punish me for making good decisions. You couldn't find a way to structure this game in a linear fashion, or balance it without artificial difficulty, and I like that for some reason."
At the very least they could have given you a way to sell excess fuel, missiles, and drone parts at stores. But even that's hidden behind RNG, so they didn't have to write a real scenario instead. Lazy.
