Your parents won't let you get a desktop? why? are they paying for it? Also there are decent gaming laptops out there, I've looked around before and your best best is the lenovo ideapad y series. Gaming laptops will never be as powerful as a desktop that's the same price (including periphreals) and gaming laptops are really hot, really heavy and have ******* 0 battery life. You sound pretty dumb for saying "I will not build a desktop" you save so much money and it's like putting together a lego set. I built my first computer when I was in 7th grade. You probably could upgrade your alienware but probably not as much as you want. I can't reccomend a pre-built desktop for when you move out (because that is hella stupid) but if you're dead set on not building a desktop then find someone who will (they'll probably charge you an extra $200 or something but it will still probably be better performance/price than buying a ******* Dell). In conclusion a Lenovo Ideapad Y series laptop will ***************** play elite dangerous, all of them probably will, the cheapest ones on low-medium and the most expensive ones on high-ultra (definitely not full ultra) plus lenovo laptops have really nice keyboards.

I should mention I'm talking about their current Y series lineup, they're cheap enough you probably shouldn't try and buy one secondhand

Literally no idea, it's mostly my own but when I asked they just said we won't have desktops in this house. Well really my mother said that and my dad and I didn't bother arguing because it wasn't that big a deal.

This is the perfect laptop, 480p video max and can run fancy pants man 2 at a crisp 15 fps, truly a marvel of gaming laptops, the cq58.

CAN'T UPGRADE AN ALIENWARE?!?!? WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!?!?
Bu serious: what version? 14xR??? because there's a good number of upgrade-able parts for them.
That being said, the new alienwares have that wonderful graphics amplifier.
I would say get an m13 or 15 with the midrange cpu, whatever you want for ram, whatever graphics card you'd like AND the graphics amplifier with it's entry level graphics card because alienware has made it so that the graphics amplifier uses a standard desktop sized PCI express 16 graphics card (ie. throw whatever new card you want in there whenever whatever you've got in it isn't cutting it anymore).
Plus, their warranty service covers the living **** out of you.

People can talk **** abou alienware all they like, my m17xr3 has served me well, has no issues playing whatever I like, and I can still upgrade the processor, graphics and ram (got 2x8gb, with room for 2 more)

But that's just my two cents.

I might actually pick up a new alienware sometime soon too.

Gaming laptop eh?
Better get one of those msi gaming ones that are as huge as a desktop and cost 5 times as much.
