look, even if you play with friends, it's only has 13 levels
some of them are really short
and once you do them all, you might not what to replay them, unless you're into the whole loot thing

To be fair from what I've seen the lore is rather baron. It's not the 40k univers (space marine one) it's still the grind dark death game stop do, but in traditional fantasy medevi style.

The basic jist is. Gods are dicks and want to kill everyone on earth so make giant killer rats. That's all you really need to know

Warhammer's lore is very extensive, as it should being that it's been building up since the early 1980s.
There aren't a lot of elements in Vermintide, but there's probably more to be added in future updates, and to suggest is Warhammer's lore itself is barren is largely incorrect.

I know a lot more warhammer and 40k stuff than is in the video games.

Games Workshop made "Warhammer Fantasy Battles" in 1983.

They made "Rogue Trader" in 1987, and this was re-worked in 1993, removing a lot of the roleplaying features and being renamed to Warhammer 40,000.

Sir that's absolute bollocks.
The optimization still needs love, but they've been working at it a bloody lot.
It's holiday season right now so give them a bit of a break, but it's obvious the devs love this game and want it to work better.

Doesn't help that it's the first time they used the Stingray engine, which in itself still has optimization issues.

its almost an exact copy of left four dead...only the settings and characters are more interesting and there is some differences between the character playstyles.

That's one reason why it interests me. Got about 800 hours on L4D2. Time well spent.
From what I have seen on youtube, it's basically L4D with some kind of class system, different characters got different weapons and stuff.

pretty much.

but soldier and dwarf are interchangeable(they do get some different weapons. but they fill the same niche and such)

all of the remaining three classes have almost no difference in melee. but outside of that there is variance between the classes.

i favor the dwarf because the dwarven kind is superior.

the monsters in the game are pretty much reskins of left4ded monsters. only unique one being the gatling gunner. the loot system isnt all too bad as far as im concerned as long as you know what you are doing in the game (get all grims and all books)

outside of that..it has a few odd bugs glitches,gamebreaking stuff, some small connectivity errors. overall its stable, the maps are..okay. there isnt much variance between them. but they are all nicely crafted and all that jazz.

It's great. Best with a friend, but still pretty active. Fairly hard until you get some proper gear and even then, anything above Hard can and will push your **** in if you're not careful.

It's amazing. I can't say more without seeming like a shill, but definitely get it.

Come for the amazing combat, stay for the sick character banter.

If you didn't read description, the game is Warhammer Vermintide. Essentially the apocalypse of the Warhammer universe. (Not 40K, fantasy world.)

If you're thinking about buying it- some people enjoy the **** out of it, it's fun.

Here are some issues with it:
Some of the worst goddamn optimization I have ever ******* seen like holy **** . They decided this needed NVIDIA PhysX and did an extremely ****** CPU implementation of it. CPU PhysX! The processor reports it's under 100% load but so much of it's time is spent doing nothing or waiting. If you're at or near even the recommended specs, you will regularly drop to 10 frames per second. However they intend to console release eventually so hopefully they're treating PC like a beta and fixing this. They physically HAVE to optimize more than this to get it on consoles.

It is WAAAAAAYYY too grindy. Getting a rare item consists of a massive WoW style dungeon raid system that might give you one neat item that your class cant use.
If you've played Destiny, pretty much that.

The game is only grindy if you are **** at the game and/or have a bad team. If you and your team aren't a bunch of idiots, you can easily breeze through the mission collecting all tomes and grimoires Little collectibles that when carried to the end of the level, increase your chance of getting better loot and have a really nice chance at getting a good item. Thats why having some friends really helps.

TL;DR: Get some friends, get much better loot.

Matchmaking is aweful and takes entirely to long, 5-10min. Using the game browser instead never works because most games on the list are not actually active, but the game takes 5min to tell you your attempt to connect timed out.

Games themself have to many connection issues, there is no host migration so when everybody around you freezes thats /gg. Also, no reward whatsoever if a mission is not completed for any reason, including the connection issues.

Thing is, what i played of it was pretty fun and enjoyable. But it just has to many issues, and looking it up some more it seems what i experienced was just the tip of the iceberg.
But two hours and i hadnt even gotten through the first mission yet. So i refunded that sucker.

You haven't played since Sigmar's Blessing patch/DLC. They fixed all of that except no host migration.

Matchmaking and lobbies are much better, you now get stuff besides XP even if you fail, you can now craft items and you get +%class loot trinkets.

The optimization is fine. My piece of **** from 2009 can run it all on Medium-High at 50fps, so any newer computer can certainly do as good or better.

ow and optimization isnt the problem, performance for me is fine. It's getting into a game that takes far to long, and the connection issues that **** me up during a mission.
No host migration and no reward when the host disconnects, this happend in half my games.

Then the only thing I can tell you (about matchmaking):

A) You're too overleveled for the difficulty you're trying to match

B) You're too underleveled for the difficulty you're trying to match

C) Some maps aren't played. People hate them, they're ridiculous or ineficcient. Until Nightmare/Cataclysm (aka, fun), most people just farm Horn of Magnus, Black Powder and Wizard's Tower for quick gear, so all other maps take longer to match because there's less people wanting to play them.

D) You can always start your own; it fills up with bots and if it's in progress (aka, in the map rather than the inn), it gets priority for other people matching. I've waited for 10-15 minutes in the Inn for a group to fill up, launched it and had it fill up after launch in 20-40 seconds.

I was lv0. Trying to play the very first mission on Normal. The browser had a ton of games, but i found out somewhere that the game keeps games that already finished in the browser.

I dont have fast internet to host, nor do i want to play a multiplayer game with bots, that is absurd. Even if the matchmaking taking so long isnt an issue with the matchmaking itself, but a lack of population, that is still distressing that so few people are playing this game while it is even currently on sale.

Still doesn't excuse the host disconnect issues and lack of host migration either. Thing is i was quite looking forward to playing this, so, mfw i guess.

There are still a lot of people playing the game, but most have already moved beyond Normal. The "normal" difficulty is Nightmare, with Cataclysm for bragging rights.

That said you really should've started on Easy, people usually don't hop into Normal until level 10-15 (map layout, basic dodging/blocking/parrying abilities, etc).

Hosting isn't really an issue. My internet has a 10mbps upload speed and I can, in Portugal, host games with people up to Russia without them lagging (or so they say when I ask).

You're right. Thing is, everyone at that level goes to their map, picks a map & difficulty and just stands there. That only matches you with games in-progress, since it defaults you as a host. If you actually start the game, you get people join into your game. Other than that, lobby browser and sort by difficulty or map or #of players, and check if they're in-progress or in-inn.

The browser is still a bit slow, it does keep games already finished because they can always go back to Inn and play another, parties stick together after each map, and the lobby only refreshes itself every 5 or 7 minutes so you have to do so manually.

The only "legitimate" in my view complaint is the host disconnect issues, if the host D/C's everyone gets thrown back to the Inn or to the start of the mission and that blows, but you can change/swap hosts with a party formed @ the in..

Population would still be an issue if everyone is so far out of reach of new players that new players cannot get games going anymore.
Browser being slow is an understatement. Try to join any game and spend 2min to be told i got Timed Out, only to guess another one at random and repeat the process.

So it's certainly not just host disconnects, and a lack of host migration, being a legitimate issue.
Spending two hours and still not even being done with the beginner mission due to disconnects and matchmaking issues/lack of population is not acceptable for me. Seems only fair other people keep this in mind, as well as performance issues. I didnt have them, but from what i could tell looking into my problems, performance is the most commonly reported issue.

you know that forge thing, where you add 5 items? it has 1/5 chance to give you the next level of one of those items
so if you add 4 great knight weapons and 1 elf weapon, there's 4/5 chance you'll get a knight weapon out of it
