PlanetSide 2
Probably the best fps I have ever played. Combined arms warfare (infantry, ground and air vehicles), open world, bullet drop included, free to play, no pay2win, currently 4 different and huge continents, three empires/factions to choose from (they all have their own arsenal). Soon the game will also have a base/fort building system.
In PlanetSide 2 you can buy all the weapons and upgrades with ingame currency (also available with real money) so you can play the game very well without ever spending any money. With money you can buy cosmetics such as camos for weapons and armors, exp and resource boosts and membership which mainly gives you exp boost and some daily deals as well as free DBC (tokens you buy with real money).
Although it might sound like it to some, PS2 is not a p2w game. The starter weapons you have are good all-a-rounders and during the first 15 levels you earn extra 100 certs (ingame currency) that will help you to invest in good upgrades on your suit/armor early on. You can buy all the weapons with either DBC (through real money) or certs. None of the weapons is much stronger than the other so buying new weapons right away won't give you any advantage over starter weapon.
I highly recommend joining in some outfit (clan/guild) if you can't figure out what to do right away. You will most likely die a lot at first but in PS2 playing for the objective (capture bases) is what counts. Reddit and main forums are very active.
Available on Steam for free
Age of Empires 3
Rts game that still looks very good even though it's quite old already. By buying the complete collection, you'll have the base game with war chiefs and asian dynasties expansions. The game plays pretty much like any other basic rts game; collect resources and defeat your enemy but the gameplay is really fun and versatile.
The game has quite long campaign mode, a skirmish mode (both offline and online) where you fight against/with bots and real players. Available empires are: British, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Ottoman, Russian, Dutch, Sioux, Iroquois, Aztecs, Chinese, Japanese and Indians.
Available on Steam for ~40 €/$ (very cheap during sales)
RollerCoaster Tycoon 2
Build the theme park of your dreams! The game is very old but it still is a very good single player game. You can find RCT3 as well which is more advanced but the game optimization is kinda bad and I just prefer the RCT2 style. You might want to check out RollerCoaster Tycoon World as well as Planet Coaster which are both supposed to be released this year.
Playing RCT2 via OpenRCT2 (free download) is highly recommended because it adds bug fixes, windowed mode and multiplayer support.
Game is available on Steam for ~10 €/$
Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm
Another really good fps game. The setting is in the second world war's eastern europe and pacific fronts. Red Orchestra is semi-realistic meaning there is bullet drop, large battlefields, role system (meaning not everyone can be a sniper or machine gunner), historical and accurate locations. Also the vehicle play is really nice because for example in a tank you can see all the time what's going on: The main gun being loaded, machine gunner changing mags and driver driving. The game is very beautiful yet so brutal.
The game has very friendly and active but small'ish playerbase. You won't have troubles finding servers, though. There will also be Rising Storm 2 at some point. That will be about Vietnam war.
Available on Steam for ~20 €/$ (comes with both Ro2 and Rising Storm)
Tomb Raider: Underworld
Still my favorite Tomb Raider game. In short: raid tombs and find treasures with some gunplay included. Underworld is not like old TR games where you had to learn the dungeons by heart and might get stuck for a long time. Also the PC port is a lot better. It's also not like the new TR games either (although I really like the new TR games as well), because the main focus is still in dungeons/tombs and puzzles.
The story is interesting and features norse mythology. The story is actually in 2 parts, first part in TR: Legend and the second part in Underworld. I can't really recommend Legend, though, because the PC port is very awkward. In Underworld you luckily have the option to watch Legend's cutscenes to understand what's going on and what you're doing.
Available on Steam for ~10 €/$
Saints Row 2
If you played Saints Row 3 and 4 and though they go a bit over the top, then you might like Saints Row 2. SR2 is probably the most GTA-like game of the series available for PC. There are still hilarious moments but the game has that "gangsta" feel which I missed in the sequels. You pretty much start with nothing and need conquer your city back from 3 different gangs: Sons of Samedi, The Brotherhood and The Ronin.
Available on Steam for ~10 €/$
Terraria
Some say "it's just 2D minecraft" which is partially true but in my eyes the game is much better. The game has ridiculous amount of items, weapons, armors and playstyles. The bosses, dungeons and biomes are challenging and fun. While gearing up for next bosses, you are supposed to provide homes for various NPC as well who will make your journey easier and more enjoyable.
Terraria's art is pixelated but I think it's still very beautiful game. It's nice to play alone I think you should at least play it with one friend. If you have no friends to play with, steam forums and reddit will help you to find company.
Available on Steam for ~10 €/$

Valkyria Chronicles
I haven't played many anime themed games because I don't find them that strong but I'm glad I made an exception on this one. Valkyrie Chronicles is a turn based and story driven strategy game that can be compared a bit to XCOM. But instead of clicking and pointing the mouse to move your characters, you move them yourself in 3rd person and shoot as well.
The game is quite challenging especially in late stages so it's necessary for you to pay attention to unit upgrades and new recruits. There is also Valkyria Chronicles anime for anyone interested.
Available on Steam for ~20 €/$
Portal 2
Something I bet almost everyone have played but imo still worth recommending. You have a gun that can create 2 portals connected to each other. You can go through the portals and solve many interesting and clever puzzles this way.
The story is very nice and fun and you will most likely enjoy it. Also make sure you try the co-op multiplayer with a friend.
Available on Steam for ~20 €/$
Cities: Skylines
Quite hyped city building and traffic management game when it was released. The game has also got many improvements along the way as well as DLC so it's well worth checking out. Or returning back to if you own it already.
The game is easy to understand you will be able to build a city the way you want. Although it might not always lead to best possible results... The community is active and creating many mods and custom objects for the game so you won't get bored for a long time.
Available on Steam for ~30 €/$
