For all those wondering, it's not that Spore was a terrible game all on its own. It is that it was meant to be a completely amazing game with realistic mechanics for animals (such as dragging a carcass away to your nest in order to eat safely) and was supposed to be at least somewhat scientifically accurate with evolution. But instead, they made everything about it cartoony and made each stage in the game a repetitive mini game. And the end stage is not worth playing past the first hour.
Again, not a bad game. But if you followed it from it's start and were anticipating it, it was the biggest disappointment in gaming history, probably akin to what some oldfags might have felt with the new Duke Nukem

Meh I do agree with your whole point but it was still pretty bad *as well* as not being what was "promised".
But yea.. supposed to be evolution/natural selection. I thought you'd get some randomly generated land and say your creature swam a long distance the babies would have small gills, or if it repeatedly carried stuff, more muscle mass etc. But yea... more like "YOU GOT A LOL POINT - HOW ABOUT A FACE ARM AND A LEAF KNEE?"

This is why you ignore hype and play games for what they are, unbiased.
the end of it is so replayable that it's basically "galactic trader simulator". once you get to the centre of the galaxy you 'meet' the original aliens and they give you weird-ass tech but in such a limited supply that you never even use it and the last stage of evolution is just so damn repetitive- what's more is that no matter what you do, you can never appease the cyborgs, or even enter their space without being straight-up attacked on the spot, even when doing missions for them, even when collecting bounties from them!
the game in its entirety is simply broken ass **** .

I've heard that destroying planets let's you get on their good side
i remember the 2007 demo or w/e it was i had watched, i was so ******* hype, and i seen almost no new footage of the game prior to launch, i got it the day of and was just so utterly disappointed with it. such trash compared to what was originally shown.
Yeah, I came here to say the same thing. Dragon Age 2 was an inexcusable abomination. The fact that a company with a pedigree like Bioware pumped out that afterbirth of a game is insulting. It kind of ruined the franchise for me.
Inquisition was pretty good and I found myself moderately enjoying Dragon Age 2 postexperience once I started thinking of it as a small title made as an introduction to Inquisition (because storywise, it serves that purpose really well).
Now, thinking of it as a AAA title for full price that's supposed to be able to stand on its own legs...
Well, that's not something I want to think about. ****** characters in a ****** town facing ****** (and few) enemies with ****** animations, ****** gameplay (although the combat could be enjoyable at times) with a ****** story (until connected to Inquisition, but no one wants a 6 hour introduction).
Origins is still by far the best in the series.

I got Spore during this year's summer sale, and you're totally right. The Civilization phase is just not fun at all, I've never managed to get passed it to the galactic phase, which I hear is the best phase. But even then everything up to Civilization phase was lacking, and the charm of making some wild and whacky creature wears off after like, the first 2 attempts, especially with how restrictive the "Creature building" is.
although imo if it came out like 5 years later it'd be right up there with minecraft in terms of community & youtube following.

Dude, when I was like 10 or 11 playing Spore, I couldn't figure out how to save whenever I was in the galactic stage, so I would go as far as I could in it, and the next day, I started back from the beginning and went all the way from the cell stage again. You have a serious case of git gud

No, he said it wasn't fun, not that it was challenging. I've also never made it that far. The first two stages are alright, after that it becomes mass ass.
