What if it's because you aren't a sentient being. You're life is entirely about hunting and killing your opponents. You never actually experience the fulfillment of living a life that is not centered around brutal slaughter. When you look in a mirror, you see nothing. Because the character feels nothing, knows nothing, does not think for itself, and is incapable of anything but killing. Mirrors stand as a reminder that you are not human, you are just a soldier.

There is no such thing as a "functional" mirror in 3D fps games.
To make a mirror that works in one, you have to position a camera that projects onto a texture. That is VERY system intensive if you have more than a couple mirrors per level.
