you do realise its just a PC right?
its nothing more than a regular PC in a fancy box, running linux

i don't get why people are getting so worked up about it, all it's gonna be is some computer hardware in a small box that most likely will cost alot more than if you'd build something similar yourself

You do realize that every console is just a PC in a different case running propitiatory software, don't you?

No no no that is not the case. The PS3 and Xbox both have custom hardware that you can't get off a shelf. Also due to manufacturing and economic reasons, it was way cheaper to get a console back in their hayday of 2008-9 or so than a comparable PC.
Because of the uniformity of hardware it allowed for much better programing so the games could run better on the outdated hardware. 360 has a very very old graphics card.

The steam box however is literally just computer bits.

yes, but you cant just build an Xbox or a playstation
you can however, build a PC and install linux onto it
thats why a steambox is pretty useless, contrary to the traditional consoles

Yes you can. It just takes more work than building a PC.

i said "you cant just" with wich i ment "you wont be able to do it fast or efficient"
seriously, why are you even discussing this? my point is that a steambox will just be an overpriced thing thats really nothing to get excited over
its not even like apple where at least the software is superb or it has some other thing that makes it worth the price (i'm no apple fanboy but i admit they have good products)

its *just* a PC
yes you could theoretically build a PS3 or Xbox, but in reality it would cost alot of money and it would be very hard, require alot of time and expertise
this isnt the thing with a steambox: any non-motoric retard can build a similar device for less than the steambox will cost

that's why the steambox is really nothing special and nothing to get exited over

I agree with you there, I was just saying that you could in theory build an Xbox or PS3.

what if it looked like a companion cube... and you got like 3 hats for TF2 when you bought it
User avatar #7 to #2 - godofal (01/18/2013) [-]
im still waiting for a decent companion cube replica
only thing i can find are cooky boxes and expensive tiny metal ones

if they made it into a decent companion cube and the price wasnt too high, i might actually get interested
#3 to #2 - vaskaduzea (01/18/2013) [-]
nothing would change, cause tf2 is for casuals
