Seriously though, I think it is wrong to say that Undertale is a better all around game than Super Mario 64, mostly because of what that game brought into the gaming world, the nostalgia, and the goddamn awesome that lies within. I frikken love Undertale, but seriously, this is... Nah
Well, it's no longer being taken seriously by pretty much everyone, except those that are being extremely salty. People are voting undertale because of the exceptionally large amounts of delicious rage over so many people's games losing on an internet poll that no one really gives a **** about. Seriously look through the rows and rows of rage. It's down right hilarious, that people are taking this so damn seriously, instead of just enjoying the games that they like, instead of seeking validation that their games are the best.
TL;DR This is all one big joke now, and people are getting salt for no good goddamn reason.
Seriously, whats wrong with this society, cant someone just like something without caring about if its better or not than (insert anything here) ?? must every single thing be a popularity contest??
The original FFVII is so obtuse and confusing I can't make heads or tails of it and I always get bored of it after a while.
What's so good about it? It would probably make for a good book, but I simply don't understand FFVII. (The graphics are not the problem.) How is it a good game?
If you were around 10 or so when you first played this game... it won't and should not make sense to you past "let's kill monsters, yay!" Which is fine, we were kids. But. It's a story about a war-torn planet trying to survive while the winner of said war quite literally bleeds it dry for money. In fact their greed is so cartoonishly deep, they have a grown man dancing around, excited about rate hikes at one point. Like a small child promised candy.
It's a story of loss, one that, no thanks to its' money grab sequels, prequels, and everything in between, shows more than you might have noticed right away; You see children with ex soldier fathers drinking away the world trying to get them to come home. Elderly couples reminiscing about how natural and alive their land was before that reactor was built on it, against their wishes, forced to help Shin-Ra drain more energy just so they can live a little more comfortably on the planet they're forced to destroy. As much as these broken people were scared of meteor when it came... because... come on. It's a giant ******* fireball in the sky slowly getting bigger... So many of them just accepted it. Like this was their punishment. Punishment for not stopping a villain that did something more terrifying than what Sephiroth was doing.
RPGs always have those simplistic, monologue spewing antagonists. Their goals are simple: break this, rule that. No long term. This is Sephiroth. A baddie that a child can easily hate and not fear because he is a singular entity. A person with an HP bar that must be brought to zero.
But what about the Shin-Ra? A large, faceless corporate entity that is doing the unthinkable, knowing full well what they're doing. It's not like this world's religion is wrong, baseless, or even isolated. The whole world knows what the lifestream is, and what they're doing with it. This game is a death march, and even the ending doesn't really show that shin-ra is over. They will continue bringing in new people to run it. Simply because its' the safest place to be, so anyone would take that job. Though the ending does show the main city, midgar, overtaken by plants, this is still a massively damaged planet, and it is implied that the lifestream doesn't just grow more soul energy. It recycles what it has.
The Shin-Ra have crushed societies. Erased culture. And worse, they're using the souls of the dead to make sure your cellphone works, to put it bluntly. They put you, as an everyday citizen in an unwinnable situation of ennui: You need to keep your home heated and food on the table? Better get to work in that reactor. Maybe you'll hear your dead grandma's final words again as you dredge her soul out of the earth and burn it out of existence so your kids can stay warm tonight.
Even better: Sephiroth kills their president, because of what they're doing. This, in itself should confuse and trouble a rational person. Should we really stop him? Just because Cloud says so? Because Cloud saw him do bad things 5 years ago? We're eco terrorists, and we've killed innocent people, but this single person got results. Sure, he wants to be a god, but at least our souls would have been preserved in the aggregate body he was creating, instead of being used up by the offspring you can't have. I want you to just imagine the sheer futility: Eventually, every child comes out stillborn because your generation were the last ones able to have souls. Your electric company has just drained the last drop it can until someone dies. The worst part? There were other sources of fuel before this energy source. This was just the most profitable.
TL;DR: This game's story is ****** up to anyone mature enough to have "adult" fears. It's just well hidden because its' a JRPG.
Thank you for your explanation. I've taken a renewed interest in the game with the remake coming up and I wanted to learn more about what the original was about.
Yeah and I find it very funny how the comment #1 states how they will promptly laugh at the emotionless faces of the people who disagree with undertale, but they don't say anything about FVII not being chosen over smash. You know **** about emotion in gaming if you didn't play FFVII, that game is a ******* rollercoaster.
Yeah, I won't really look at that vote page and say anything about it's way of finding the best game ever, but I don't think that's right...
But on another note. FFVII
I understand that as you're seriously pumped for the HD version though~ c:
Hella bruh
why would you vote for a completly meh game (by meh i mean boring as **** game which doesnt really excel in any aspect) which came out a month ago over a game which has standed the test of time incredibly and people still remember as an amazing game....seriously i do not doupt that every single one of you will have completly forgoten undertale was a thing in a years time
people remember it though, i garentee no one will remember undertale in a few years
it will just be another bandwagoned and forgoten meme bait game like bread simulator or somthing
Undertale is much like earthbound in that it's not going to be mainstream in years to come, but it's also not going to be forgotten. It's an experience that will stand a test of time but won't stand such as a legendary game. Also Super Mario 64 only stood the test of time because it was revolutionary and many children grew up with it and remember it out of nostalgia, not respect as a good game.
its mainstream as balls, its the most bandwagony game that ever bandwagoned, and having seen multiple gameplay videos and listened to people speak about it i can see nor hear a single thing which is either new or groundbreaking about it, it has awfull gameplay a cliche art style and an average story that is delivered in a mildly interesting way....its a nothing that will be forgoten in a year or two
Let me explain what I see wrong with this.
1) I said it's not going to be mainstream. As in future tense. It will not retain its mainstream attention as Mario and Zelda have since they were basically 1/4th of the video game market at one point and got brand recognition from there.
2) Bullethell (VERY LIGHT BULLET HELL) dodge system with an in-depth sparing system. The sparing system is more in-depth than anything in any other game has ever been. Find me an example of a game where I can go through a complex method of avoiding killing and enemy and get more of a reward from it in satisfaction than I do in loot from killing them.
3) The story of the other entires in this competition.
Melee:Literally nothing.
FFVII: Deep enthralling narrative (as I'm told, but I couldn't emulate it and my PS1 is in poor condition atm and my PS3 and PS4 are no go either so...stuck there)
Undertale: Kid goes on a mystical quest through a land full of monsters that he can chose to befriend or kill to be either scorned as a truely evil monstrosity or loved as a best friend to all who can do no evil.
Super Mario 64: Save princess in castle by going through paintings and getting stars to fight Bowser.
Legend of Zelda OoT: Free the land of Hyrule by beating 8 dungeons and getting loot to fight Ganondorf with the help of Princess Zelda and the Master Sword. Also use your Ocarina to warp time to help get through the world. *take away points for reusing the majority of its story from the first Zelda game*
Legend of Zelda aLttP: Avenge your uncle by battling the forces of evil and using your tools to defeat bosses. That's about all I know of the plot.
Super Mario RPG: Mario defeats the evil forces of Ganondorf in his own RPG with similar -albeit less skill reliant- combat to Undertale but less innovative.
MGS3: Snake works undercover to stop WW3 and the METUL GEER. Really about all I know about that one, but I'm told it's also very good.
4) You're not getting all high and mighty that OoT's graphics have aged HORRIDLY, its plot is mediocre, and it is not groundbreaking for the current day and age and is only as popular as it is because of its original ground-breaking 3D design.
lmao undertale faggots actually asking people to vote their game so it looks like its not some pile of meme **** thats already gotten old because of its ****** fandom
Not only is undertale not the ****everyone some retarted autists says it is. But the fandom is so cancerous that you can actually contract leukemia by being in the presence of an undertale fanboy.
Who gives a **** about the fandom! Every fandom is cancerous, the game itself is great. Review here.
"In other words, Undertale, despite it's simplistic gameplay and design, has trumped all the other games through sheer, gripping characters and story. Making you the silent protaginist allows you to insert yourself into the story more, and therefore enhances those characters even more.
Not only that, but the very concept of saving, loading, and resetting are all ingrained as an actual concept into the game, not just an average UI. The fact some can notice or remember makes you feel like your actions have effect, which again, enhances story and characters, each important character has their own custom made music to match them, all of which are composed amazingly, and, AND, to top it all off, there are still undiscovered secrets despite its popularity, and so much mystery left to be discovered.
This is why it's simplistic design and gameplay take nothing away, this is a game that spent almost all of its time empowering it's actual emotional experience and connections. Something so lacking in the world, that a few people don't even see the value in the concept anymore. "
**aeros used "*roll picture*"** **aeros rolled image**Really? Undertale beat Mass Effect 3, Fallout 3, Super Mario World, AND Pokemon Red/Blue? This is why I hate hype
Wow, I thought Super Mario 64 would have crushed Undertale into the floor based solely on the principle of "HUR DURR MAH CHILDHOOD" alone. The cult following for this **** is crazy. To be honest I'm kinda rooting for it so we can have something that isn't Ocarina of Time as the best game of all time for once. Ever. Don't pretend Melee and Super Mario RPG stand a chance against it, we all know they don't.
It was done on purpose. A lot of people are just voting undertale to make a bunch of neards rage over muh nostalgia. OoT was boring as hell to me. I'm biased though, in that if I play a zelda game, I prefer the 2D ones, and even then I was brought up on RPGs.
I grew up with Super Mario 64 and played Twilight Princess around 13-14. I honestly enjoy it and the original Zelda but I never had the time to give ALttP a good go, but OoT was just...I hate it. The opening was so slow and gave me no reason to care whatsoever. There's no reinforcement from the world that you need to do what it is the plot is having you do.
THANK you. I know people like it, but... I just don't understand. Nothing.... nobody ever... EVER motivates you to do anything. It's like... "Oh, you can do... this thing over there... if you want, i guess. Or you can explore our "open world" where you're limited by how far you've traveled through our linear story. Yeah no. It felt empty and long winded. Only for the final boss to feel... I dunno, dull?
