its not rigged. but when undertale started winning competitions (because hey, its a popular and a good game,. versus games that are old..so ofcourse it would get a few odd victories) they started crying out in a very hilarious fashion (basically calling undertale an sjw ******** and thinking tumblr is rigging the vote) so some blokes in here and all over the internet got together in an attempt to make undertale win the competition just because salt.
this lead to even more salt being created to a point one dude is threatherning to use thousands of dollars to buy votes just to beat undertale...its not working.
Somehow it's "rigged" if people who enjoy the game tell other people who enjoy the game to vote on the poll about which game they enjoy the most.... hm.
A small part of me hopes Undertale goes the way of Flappy Bird.
Author gets fed up with it all and pulls it himself.
I'm neither for/against the game. It's not my cup of tea, but I won't slate it unneccessarily, it's just gained a stupid amount of fame resulting in a ridiculous amount of fans. And again, I enjoy some of the content despite having never played it all, but THIS.....
EH, Surely it defeats the point?
Like, if you're genuinely voting for it, and it wins, it doesn't matter, because at this point everyone is just going to discredit it whether or not it wins because of a blatantly rigged poll.
Love it all you want, but I honestly can't see the argument that makes it a better game than SSBM.
SSBM has;
More characters
More game modes
More levels
More items
More content
More challenges
More replayability
Granted, it might not give you "MUH FEELZ", but it damn well gives you everything else.
Also, if Princess Peach isn't your waif then you're a ******* heretic.
it's a different core game, with different core features. comparing vastly different games on any merit other than popularity is stupid because it's the only thing they're gonna have in common.
here are my reasons for Undertale being the better game:
I dont like fighting games, but i do like old rpg's
Story is more important to me than gameplay in most cases
Undertale's characters are not as bland as nintendo's
No matter how many sequels come out, everyone will always hug melee and shun you for playing the newer ones because for some reason having fun is forbidden.
And when it comes to liking a game then opinion is everything. None of the points you made convice me that smash is the better game here simply because none of those points are things i care about.
This biggest argument I've got for this one is if you prefer Story over Gameplay, why are you looking for games at all?
And yeah, they're two completely different styles of games, I don't think they should be contending with eachother to be honest, but ehhhhh.
I wouldn't say Nintendos roster is bland, if anything I'd say far from it. They just didn't touch up too much on characters in Smash Bros, because why bother? They're all already established.
Each their own. Personally, my favourite is Smash Bros 3DS. People don't so much hug to melee, they just go to it as a standard, much the same way the very best Street Fighter players player Street Fighter II.
Eh, and same to you. I'm not particularly fussed what games people want to play, and I personally couldn't care if people share my taste in games or not, since I've got a pretty varied taste. For me, I like being able to collect things, and sample lots of different play styles. SSB in a nutshell for me there.
Undertale as you say is more the interactive story, but for me, if I want a story I'll read a book. Not knocking your methods there, but I'd rather get a story out of something that is, for all intents and purposes, there to give me a story.
thing is, a book or a movie could never involve you in the story like a game can. Movies and books can show you a story, but a game can involve you in one, and thats what i like about them. Not saying gameplay is irrelevant, not at all, i can simply forgive bad gameplay if the story is good.
It's funnyjunk, im not trying to be high brow and look you are discussing my comment, making it relevant. Also I judge the game by its lack imagination and I for one don't like the design/gameplay. I usually wouldn't care but like the community has pushed it to be in my face and like idk I wish I could avoid it but like it's the next pony fad imo
I mean everyone has done that before. That plus I don't like how a childhod game of mine that has stayed relevant for 14 years is being compared dto a game of a different genre that is run by trolls and lacks depth yet everyone in my college like praises it. I don't understand the game at all
I was a pretty big fan of Pokemon a while ago. I owned pokemon yellow and have played a game from every single generation. I just find undertale to be better.
Sorry to jump into the conversation here, though it's 9 hours late, but...
I find that Undertale is a game that is much better to play than to watch. You lose the sense of urgency when you watch it; the excitement you get out of playing normal fast-paced games.
You should try the Demo for it, before you really judge it, since it has one. That way you don't have to, potentially, waste your money and still get a feel of what the overall game is like when it comes to combat and what not. Though the Demo isn't on Steam or anything...
But! I'm not tryin' to bad mouth you not likin' a game or anything. Lots of games aren't for everyone, but I find it's best to try something before judging it too harshly.
I mean, besides things like murder, or putting milk in a bowl before putting cereal in. Shouldn't try that either way.
Opinions are opinions. What we can take away from the poll is:
1. There are many people that think highly of Undertale
2. These people know about the contest
3. These people care enough to vote
Polls will always be subject to response bias, so don't get all salted up over nothing. I abstained from voting Pokemon vs Undertale because I couldn't reconcile past enjoyment vs current enjoyment.
Probably because one is stylized as a jrpg, while the other is a fighting game.
It's really retarded when people try to compare games that are different in genre.
Exactly, If it was rpg list, I could understand better undertale winning, and I wouldn't vote for it anyway, Paper mario thousand year door is LOADS better in my opinion.
1) I have not played Undertale, but I'm sure it's a fine game. I mean, it's got a fairly sizable fanbase, so there has to be something good about it. I do intend to play it myself eventually, even going as far as avoiding any and all potentially spoilers about the game. However, the overzealous fanbase has left me with a bit of a bad taste, so I keep putting it off.
2) I do not and will not care about the results of a poll on GameFAGs.
So anyway, does this not seem that fair to anyone else? The Melee fanbase/community, if anything, is even bigger now than it was back in its "heyday." But now it's going to lose to the flavor of the month indie game. Why? Shouldn't something that has stood the test of time deserve to win. Let's be honest here, no one's really going to be talking about Undertale in a year. It might come up occasionally as a recommendation, but nothing more than that.
And all of that goes for everything else it's beaten so far. I'm using Melee in particular since that's the current poll.
to me it was. everything else was kind of a let down, and undertale totally went under my radar and surprised me in a really good way.
this poll however is stupid. even if undertale wins, it loses because people who love the other games will hate on undertale even though they've never played the game.
it's a lose/lose situation, and making people salty about it just makes it worse
personally(and i mean 100% personally) the characters in undertale felt forced (they felt like single dimensional quirks designed with the same intention of those moeblob anime girls "hey look, yuko-chan did something silly and quirky BEEEEST GIRL", tell me that's not what all undertale posts are) and when the characters fell flat so did the humor, without the humor and characters it's nothing but a mildly interesting yet very "cheap"(as in terms of actual quality) indie rpg,
personally, witcher 3 was my personal favorite this year, i went in to it kinda reluctant because witcher 2 never really clicked with me(i got to the second act and got bored)
but just like with darksouls (my all time favorite game) it was a rough first day or two before it really clicked, and i spent 120 hours in it in the first 8 days of release
hey to each his own. at least you gave it a try. a lot of people just dismiss it as pretentious indie garbage.
i went into the game to justify my hate for it and ended up really liking it. if anything it's a good learning experience for the guy that made it and hopefully he'll make more games.
Only reason I want UT to win is to see all the ******* salt that would explode from gamefaqs and maybe the smash community. There were threads about seriously cheating so that smash would win
At this point I wanna see Undertale win just to piss everyone off. People who get their knickers in a twist over obviously cheese-able surveys like this deserve to see their favorite games lose.
Dude, Online polls have allways been plauged with one thing, Trolls, if you ever heard of the "Hitler did nothing wrong" Mountain dew poll, then you should understand. Im guessing a portion of the votes are voteing cause they like the game(like me, I don't like pokemon much anymore, and I liked silver/crystal better anywho). If another popular game came out instead, it would win all the same, it is just undertale got the attention, and got popular QUICK, it's just an online poll, nothing is harmed from it, only gained. And anyways, this list was **** from the begining, cause you can't compare games like these.
Also, the best game ever is Super Mario Sunshine.
Its visuals and gameplay were flawlessly balanced.
And god help me those water graphics looked refreshing.
