Eh I personally think the gen 1 games are a little overrated.
I'l give them credit for starting of the series and being the jumping board for bigger and better things but as its own game its clunky, buggy and has weird GUI choices
I don't play past gen 3. Honestly, Gen 2 was probably the best realistically, but Gen 1 will always hold that special place in my heart for nostalgia value, and Yellow version letting me have a Pikachu follow me around.
I'm surprised you beat Fallout 3 or Mass Effect 3, considering they're both better games IMO, and are both incredibly popular. I suppose it probably has something to do with gamefaqs user base.
Honestly, looking at the results, a lot of these make no sense to me.
How did Banjo-Kazooie beat Baldur's Gate 2?
How did Sonic the Hedgehog 2 beat Portal 2?
How did Chrono Cross beat GTA:San Andreas?
There are ones I understand even though I personally disagree, like Mass Effect 2 beating Starcraft, or EarthBound beating Borderlands 2, or Resident Evil 4 beating Fallout: New Vegas, but those 3, I would have put money on the game that lost being more popular.
I've played and beaten all of the games mentioned in my comment, except Portal 2, that one I only got to play once at a friends place and didn't have time to beat, but from what I did get to play it seemed like an improved version of the original, which was a game I loved. and the old-school ones are games I grew up on. Some of my earliest memories are playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with my older brother. I still think the games they beat out are better. Also, >>#9 there's been vote cheating on multiple games in this contest, with gamefaqs users admitting to it in that thread.
portal 2 was short and gimmicky. but unlike sonic, it doesnt have such a huge infamy and nostalgia backing it up so it loses.
banjo is honestly A LOT more infamous than baldurs gate. and i mean by a mile. so there is really no surprise why it would win
and gta sa is a gta game...honestly the main reason the franchise is still around is because of the shock value and cultural history it has. compare that to a game that is considered to be one of the stables of rpg history. and you should be able to see why it won that one as well..
I might love Undertale. But I love Super Mario World more. It was one of the first games I truly had fun playing. I believe my most favourite game is Kingdom Hearts 2 though.
Yes, a contest with rigged votes. So fun. If there wasn't mass cheating going on, it would be fun/interesting to see who honestly won. As it is, it's a contest of which game has a single fan willing to write a script to force it to the top spot.
