I read a comment on here that hit pretty hard with it.
Sans tells you that if you're really friends then you won't come back. And if you do so he mentions that since you did come back, you never really were friends. And not to tell the other Sans'...s
This was him trying to kill you so you could reset and make everything right. And he knew that if the other Sanses knew it would hurt more. He gave you another opportunity to go back after showing him you were willing to put your weapon down only to find out it was curiosity that made you do it. Not friendship or the will to help. Poor guy just watched your derranged ass die because you wondered. You'd rather die for literally nothing than let him save you, his friend.
I agree with the first two, but I honestly haven't seen anybody bring up the gender neutrality of Frisk EXCEPT for those who are trying to find reasons to hate the game. I mean, I'm not saying that it doesn't exist, but I don't think that tumblrtrash contributed to the popularity of undertale solely because it has a gender neutral protagonist antagonist?
I agree. It exists, but I jumped on the hype train because the game does such an amazing job doing what it's trying to do. The feelings, storytelling, characters, challenges. It all feels very well made.
I've only recently, after the height of the popularity has become a bit more stagnant, seen all this negatively positive press on the gender **** .
Same here. I started playing the game because of the other people on FJ that were so widely praising Undertale. I have rarely seen actual criticism about the gameplay/storyline. Most of the hate on the game isn't related to the game itself either, but to all the fans surrounding it.
I feel like it's pretty much turning into bronies. Very rarely do people hate the show MLP, but they hate the fans that made the show gain so much popularity.
Thanks for cherry picking that quote. I specifically said it I don't think it contributed to popularity just because they liked having a gender neutral protagonist. That was an entirely different realm of fanservice.
Think of it like this. Undertale is an Indie RPG made by one guy by the name of Toby Fox. The game post many similarities to that of the Mother/Earthbound games. To try and explain why this game is so good would probably result in spoiling it so I will be vague here and recommend that you play the game yourself to find out. The main reason why people love this game is for multiple reasons.
1: The Characters in the game are all likable in some way shape or form, but all feature flaws making more 3 dimensional than most games that try to make likable character.
2: The Story in this game is very well written. Again the only thing I can say here is play the game and see for yourself.
3: Replay-ability, see above.
4: The gameplay mechanic in the game adds a new fresh feel to the turn based RPG genre by making each attack a bullet hell minigame and is done very well.
5: It knows very well that it is a video game and plays with it, see statement 2 again.
The game is £10 on Steam and on it's official website. If you have a day off from work or something give the game a try, it is only 6 hours long roughly but has tons of replay value.
It's popular because it's pretty cleverly written, though a lot of it also comes from the inevitable "What's this thing I see people talking about" effect hitting it hard
Indie video game, got insanely popular because endearing characters, excellent music, and somewhat enjoyable gameplay.
It's worth a go, I'd say. If you don't mind Earthbound-style pixel graphics anyway.
