I loved Toriel and i went back to the ruins many times just to try and talk to her, even called her phone. But it was Asriels story that really got to me.

I walked all the previous places through and talked with everybody, eventually reaching Asriel. I thought I could save him.

oh **** no you didn't. you're supposed to spare him. it made me play some of the parts of the game again to get the true pacifist ending, like I wasn't the best of friends with Undyne and I had to go to her house and make some food.
I think the true pacifist route is truly worth it. I don't have the heart to play the game ever again on any other route because the game changed how I view save files. call me a dummy but it did kinda break my heart that I realized how I in many games do some random and horrible stuff and then just restart from the previous save.
but hey, to each to their own.
