Undertale is in the running for PC game of the year on IGN, just imagine the salt we can have if we get Undertale to win on a bigger game site than gamefaqs.

I feel like Undertale shouldn't many rewards. And I ain't talking about story, the story is fine (tho at points a tad meme-y), I'm talking gameplay and and audience.
Gameplay wise, it isn't anything special. It's Mother and Touhou's child, two niche cult classics, it doesn't do anything new to interesting. Sparing feels more for story driven stuff than gamplay, and just turns the game into a bullet hell. Also, the fact that a Genocide run's results can transfer to other games, even after resetting the game is poor design imo and ruins replayability.
Audience wise, it is very limited, for three reasons. A: As stated before, niche cult classic. B: It draws in with plot alone for the most part. Which kinda makes it a TV show/movie more than a game if people are playing it for plot more than gameplay. C: Some parts seem very meme-y, or driven by memes, like Papyrus' spaghetti, Alphis being a weeaboo closet lesbian, Temi, etc.
TL;DR: It's a good game, but it doesn't really deserve too much in rewards due to the fact it's nothing special.

Because people have nostalgia blinders or just refuse to accept anything that isn't games they play. Most of them haven't even played undertale and just dismiss it as indie or tumblr garbage.

It more or less is bro. I mean it's just a pixalated indie-wannabe text adventure, with a I'll admit fairly fun gimmicky combat system.

It might as well be a book or a comic. +Decent soundtrack.

Its a great game and I love it, but how every much you may like it, it doesn't change the fact that it's a small gem of a game. To even measure it on the same scale as a "full-sized" game is unfair IMO due to the disparity in the amount of effort needed to make them.
