I think Asgore might be the only character in Undertale I completely and totally loathe. I'm not a fan of Undyne either, but at least has some traits to make up for her obvious shonen **** .
Asgore is a useless **** who prolonged the suffering of his people simply because he's too much of a ******* coward to actually seek out and kill humans. If you aren't gonna kill them, at least tell your people so they don't live on false hope. That's some seriously pathetic politician **** . Who cares if he's a nice guy, that doesn't give him a ******* pass on being a completely incompetent king.
IM pretty sure that the nice guy trait is supposed to counter act the incompetent king trait havent played the game so i wouldnt know, but i would assume its supposedto be just like how you feel about undyne
He's a great peace time leader, not a war time leader.
Which is why he was trying to prolong getting to the surface for as long as his people would allow.
This way they are at peace for a long time, and his people don't lose hope.
Asgore hates hurting people and he doesn't want to reignite the war between humans and monsters. How are those bad traits? What other choice did he have?
If there's any character worth loathing, its Alphys. She has literally no redeemable traits.
i think he is actually pretty good wartime leader too..i mean sure he prolonged the suffering of their people. but that was most likely because he knew humans would win the war again if they reignited it. alongside the fact he didnt want that to happen....but he knew this to be the only answer so he took it, despite it going againts his own wishes.
plus he is strong as **** ...outside of undyne the undying and sans, he is possibly the strongest monster in the game. heck, he could even be stronger than undyne the undying, considering monsters get stronger the more willing they are to fight.
Asgore talks about taking the surface from the humans, but he's too soft-hearted to go up there and attack them himself. He just wanted to give his people something to look forward to, even if he wasn't cruel enough to make it happen very soon. When some humans came to the underground, though, one by one he did claim their souls. He never liked it, and wished they would just stop coming, but he wouldn't pass up the opportunity.
I really don't think you understand Asgore's character that well. He's a soft-hearted king that doesn't want to hurt anyone, but has to to give his people something worth holding on to. Not to mention, he saw what happened to his son Asriel once HE took a human soul, and didn't want to risk going down the same path. He wanted to either break the barrier for everyone, or stay trapped with his people. That's the way I see it.
As a king, you don't just twiddle your thumbs and let your people slowly die out while silently hoping you'll never have to harm a human. You either get active and get the **** done, or find some sort of alternative to the problem. What he could've done dependent on the humans that dropped in there was collaborate with each of them and spit the **** . Figure something out through cooperation, instead of just waiting to die. You can't just coast on positive thinking, soft-heartedness, and passive indecision while ruling over the lives of hundreds of individuals. People like that don't deserve to be royalty, no matter what sort of **** they think is right.
That being said, Toriel made up for almost all of this. She knew he was gonna be a begrudging puss, and decided to take **** into her own hands by preventing humans from even leaving the ruins. Her, Alphys, and the dog are the only ones that are befitting to rule the Underground. Everyone else is either too blood thirsty to see the big picture, or too pussy to take any risks to save the lives of their people.
Well you might be right about that. Toriel certainly seems to feel that way. Asgore was too determined to just sit and do nothing, but he was to soft to go all the way unless he had no other options. Both he and Toriel seem to like it better on the surface where he doesn't have the weight of an entire civilization on his shoulders. He makes a better father or neighbor than king.
