One play through should only take between 6-8 hours, and slightly more if you don't know what to do or you like to explore. It's not a very long game.

people who enjoy actively interacting with a game and community they are interested in are a problem now? if someone cosplays as a character with less than 2 pints of blood on their chest, or without enough hand held artillery to menace the NSA, then it's not good enough?

And even if you ran into some of the most horrific example of undertale fans, then you're still judging the entire fanbase based on the worst it has to offer, and on a factor that can't be controlled by anyone else in the group. That's no better than any racism or sexism claim that SJWs use to fuel their victim complex

I just look at fan-bases like a spectrum. The closer you get to either side of a spectrum in ANYTHING, Religion, Politics, Fan-bases, the worse it gets. So I just sit here in the middle liking what I like and ignoring what I don't.

In his defense, I have never played it, but my dormmate has. I thought the music was annoying and the gameplay looked like it trying really hard to be cool and creative and "so zany and different". But I watched as he was playing the final levels and a lot of his replays and I came to wanting to buy it myself, except it was pretty much useless then.

It's got the same sort of cancerous in your face fanbase that MLP and steven universe had which tends to make the same **** YOU those series earned roll over onto it before it has a chance to flourish.

It's a shame that a series be judged by it's fanbase but that's just sort of the way of it.

Personally I think Undertale is great and honestly I don't even feel like the Undertale fanbase has devolved into the borderline pedophilac **** fest that MLP and SU has ATM but it's got all the same signs. Only real difference is it actually isn't made for 8-13 Y/O girls so we'll see.

90% of the people who hate the game make assumptions from the very (over)excitable fanbase(myself included) rather than playing the game and forming opinions of their own. Sometimes the opinions are justified but if people refrained from spouting diatribe about something they have never done then maybe everyone would get on a little better. And even if people dont like it they dont need to abuse it, just move on, find the stuff they do like.
Sames goes for games like Just cause and Fallout. I've never really found them interesting but i wont talk **** about them because some people do enjoy it and that's fine too, i'm not gonna complain about the amount of Fallout 4 content because i know that a lot of our little funnyjunk family does like the fallout stuff.

Pretty much my exact experience.
As I first started playing my initial opinion was that the game was overhyped as **** and full of hipster retro designs and **** .

Now I can't stop listening to the soundtrack and wanting to see more of all these characters I've become so emotionally attached to. Attached to in such a way I haven't felt in ******* years.

And it makes me sad because it makes me feel like I may never see or feel anything like this game again.

I'm playing the game now and I have to say it is very overrated. Everyone overhyped it so much I had such high expectations for it, it's an alright game don't get me wrong, but I expected it to be flawless due to all the hype it was getting. Same thing happened with that movie Frozen, everyone was super hyped about it, then I finally decided I should watch it because I wanted to be part of the hype... absolutely wound up hating it

i can see how that would be a problem. i went into it mostly blind, before the fandom really kicked off, and i absolutely loved it because it honestly surprised me.

if i just now started playing it i would probably be a bit underwhelmed because of all the hype.

don't get me wrong. i would still probably love it, but the best thing about it was like a sense of wonder which is now sadly gone.

I can agree with the frozen thing, it's good for a children's movie but fell victim to pop song syndrome where it's over played and hype for a good but not great movie. Doesn't help let it go is just fireworks with different lyrics and won a reward, I also can't Liston to any of the music from it b/c it cring at how hype people got over it despite being standard. Undertale is similar but it is meant for all ages and really doesn't pander to any one group or age, it also helps that Toby has restricted people from selling unofficial things. Though it could be seen as being unfair, temmie herself was sad she couldn't buy herself that was fan made because of the policy, think if he let people freely make money of it it would be worse then it is now. He's sorta doing a reverse touhou thing since touhou basically is the way it is because fans made stuff for it and sold it which manually grew the fans. But why he's doing that when it worked for touhou is there's a possibility that this type of fandom turning out bad if the thing is open to more people like undertale, with a previous example of this being homestuck. Touhou didn't meet this fate because it isn't as open as homestuck is, since it's got a language barrier and the game play is bullet hell. I could go on but I'm starting to get off topic so I'll leave it at this

I got the game the same day it came out (my birthday) from my best friend, I played it maybe... 1 hour after release, and I am so ******* happy that I couldn't get anything possibly spoiled.

If you are on a site like funnyjunk, and you start seeing posts about a game that interests you, take a break from FJ and play the game. Don't get your hopes up, only your interest.

That is because you set your expectations way to high. When people love a game. they will ignore the bad things around it. The game itself is great. I love it. But if you keep hearing that it is the best game ever better then great games from the past. I can understand that the hype up to it cannot compare to the game. So all by all. Everyone there opinion. But i really think the reason you don't enjoy it is because of all the hype.

I do must note. The best moments of the game happen at the endings of the game. / near the end of the game.So maybe you will like it more later on. If you decide to keep playing.

Well. In all honesty. There are multiple reasons how he might have done it. Or if he even does it at all.

So the thing most people think that happen.

Is that when you beat omega flowey. The explosion of him and the 6 human souls are enough to shatter the barrier for a small amount of time even if this doesn't kill flowey the 6 human souls + your soul could have been enough to go trough. which is possible. But there are also people suggesting that frisk dies after the hole encounter. I haven't looked to much into this for i think it's a long shot. But it might hold water. But what i think happened. Is when flowey took over your save file etc. you where already passed the barrier / he already broke it *having 6 souls and he himself may have none but is powerfull enough kind of deal* But then you defeat him. And you get the control back of the world. And it returns how it was. just after the barrier. and to the last door to the outside.

The same can be said for any fandom of anything.

I mean yeah, Sans actually doesn't make as many ****** jokes and puns as the fanart makes him seem. He makes like....5 total? I think? And Papyrus doesn't relate everything to spaghetti. It is a genuinely good game. If you like RPG's like the Earthbound or Paper Mario games, you'll probably like Undertale. I suggest giving the demo on steam a shot if you're unsure. But you know how fandoms can be on the internet...more then a little obnoxious.

The fandom is annoying as **** , yes. But I really think you might like it if you enjoy old style RPG's. It's a good game and you may be missing out, but I agree with the anon. Try out the demo, see how you feel about it. If you don't like the game then that's alright. Just make sure you try the demo before you invest your money in the game and before you make a decision beforehand.

I'll say it, I don't know why but whenever I see a foreign comment on a website whose majority population speaks english, my jimmies get rustled a little. Wait, you were allowed to have fun in DotA? All 5 games I ever tried to get into (before the MOBA craze hit like a ton of bricks(adjusts hipster glasses)) I got called out in for being new and my teams fed, left, or sat at base. It's like nobody new was allowed to learn the game or something.

I found a group of friends to play with. Started off doing 1v1s with one of them till we figured out the shop. Gradually we got better, and started playing around with tons of different builds. Good times, and we found several builds for different characters that were situational. Even so they were all almost as good as each other, just depended on your team and the enemies.

Well, at least the guy is enough of an adult to admit he was wrong. And, y'know, to experiencing the thing he was ******** all over.

I enjoy Undertale's charm from watching other people play it, and the music is great. It's not my thing, and I'm not going to say it's GOTY material, but I also wouldn't be such a tool as to use phrases like "creatively bankrupt" for things I haven't even experienced at all.

I have to say. I REALLY don't understand all the praise this game is getting. The soundtrack is beautiful. But the game-play is so slow and repetitive. I don't think a good sense of humor and a creative bunch of characters really excuses a game being that boring... Just my two cents. I look forward to hearing how wrong I am!

Not really to tell you that you are wrong but more a counter argument. The game is so great because of how different it is. It turns your standard RPG formula on its head, adds a unique combat system, quirky plot and characters, and brings back an art-style that is hard to replicate. Not to mention it evokes nostalgia for many of us older gamers who loved the **** out of Earthbound.

Yes the game can be slow and repetetive at time but it is not meant to be Call of Duty or Skyrim action packed adventure. It's meant to be a story-driven experience, so it of course wont cater to all tastes. For those who enjoy story, like people who enjoy the Ico franchise or games like Dark Souls (hate me if you want this game was all about story. the combat was repetitive and slow as balls), its a diamond.
