Sweet Calvin and Hobbes joke, bro. I mean that sincerely. I love that **** .
User avatar #89 to #82 - bulwark (04/12/2015) [-]
Hah well damn, I half didn't expect anyone to see the reference. Calvin and Hobbes was like, a major part of my childhood.
#19 to #10 - endospore (04/11/2015) [-]
I know this is a joke, but since the topic came up, I feel like I should say if you (or anyone reading this) are considering children, please consider adopting an older kid. Children past eight years old almost never get adopted, with most that age waiting over five years to get a home if they ever do. And they're old enough to remember that **** . You adopt a thirteen year old, you'll have the happiest, most grateful kid in the world.
User avatar #25 to #19 - arandomanon ONLINE (04/11/2015) [-]
Or the most ungrateful piece of **** in history, it depends of the kid.
User avatar #29 to #19 - drunkasaurus (04/11/2015) [-]
This is probably true. I was adopted when I was two months old, and I should be very thankful since my birth-parents were ridiculous people who can't afford the kids they already have, and my adopted parents have more money than they know what to do with and have given me every opportunity imaginable. But instead of doing anything with my life I am now 23 years old and spend all my time partying and browsing dank memes with no job or accomplishments to speak of.
#83 to #29 - ffinfinity ONLINE (04/12/2015) [-]
if you are smart enough to realize that you have not gone anyway in your life, your smart enough to actually change for the better. I mean if your parents have the money that can open up some entrepreneur ship opportunities, no need to make money for someone else.

A teen is a teen. its hit or miss. back story means little next to hormones.
User avatar #34 to #19 - legendaryhero (04/11/2015) [-]
I think people who want to adopt children want to feel like the real parent and also like the real parent of the kid...
but aren't older kids the most expensive to take care of?
asking because i obviously have no experience.
#77 to #34 - anon (04/12/2015) [-]
Cost can be a wash since little kids can have huge hospital bills.
Personally if I did adopt an older kid, I'd aim more at being a mentor/role model than a parent.

adoption is a thing.
User avatar #31 to #27 - kameken ONLINE (04/11/2015) [-]
That still involves bringing the tiny human into the world, though.

I agree with you, though, people should stop ignoring the fact that adoption exists.
#32 to #31 - anon (04/11/2015) [-]
Adoption is hell for a child, kept from foster home to foster home until you find a forever home, increasing the chances for abuse.
User avatar #67 to #32 - aurareads (04/12/2015) [-]
Better to try and do a private adoption before the baby is even born. Best chance to screen out pervs and avoid foster care.

I'd never have kids because I just don't get along with children so it'd be a bit unfair on them. Plus, you know, childbirth. Ironically, I'm thinking of becoming a midwife
User avatar #59 to #52 - Virt (04/11/2015) [-]
yea birth sounds ****** and midwife is when you have someone elses baby right? idk this stuff >.>
#91 to #59 - ohlookahollybush (04/12/2015) [-]
Nah m8, midwifery is being the person who DELIVERS the baby. Being a surrogate mother is renting your baby cavern out then destroying your vagina all for a baby you'll never have.

The one thing I am afraid of is having kids.

My step-father is an ass. I can't stand behind how he treats me or my little brothers anymore. I can't leave yet. I can't really do much. I don't want to have kids because I am afraid of being him.

My friend, bless her, points to Bobby Singer every time. "You have to be like Bobby."
#22 to #14 - thepizzadevourer (04/11/2015) [-]
Oh boy. My dad's a paragon of masculinity but terrible with relationships (it's not his fault, really, pretty much everyone he's been close to has burned him really badly in some way, other than my mom). I really want to have kids someday but I can already see some of the weaknesses that he has reflected in the way I treat my little brothers.

>not giving anything back
>pretty much the only people on planet earth who will believe in you 100%
I mean, they're pretty needy other than that. But my little brothers are the only people in the world who have believed in me, simply because I was their older brother, nothing else.

And if my tax dollars have to pay for your kids food and clothes(which I don't begrudge them) chances are you are a ****** parent by default. Yes, stuff can happen to even the most responsible person, lose a job, injury, even worst case scenario rape or something, etc, and I understand that. I however am talking specifically to those who are unemployed or working part time for minimum wage, maybe DON'T have kids you can't afford.

I am 25, make just shy of 6 figures a year, own my own house, 2 cars, etc, and I am just NOW considering having a kid, because thats what responsible people do.

I've got this cousin who always yells at her kids for like, the most retarded **** . It's so awkward going to her house because guaranteed she'll find something to scream at them for.
Meanwhile her Facebook is full of "oh the joy of motherhood!" "the work of a true mother mother is some womanhood stuff n **** "
I get so angery.

#78 to #66 - anon (04/12/2015) [-]
Sounds like the typical mother, proud of her kids but won't show it. (unless she's in front of her equals/superiors who will judge her to no end)
User avatar #84 to #78 - manofparody (04/12/2015) [-]
No, the typical mother is the attention whore, feeding off the attention of having kids, while hating every second of being a mother and wished they would die, but also wishes she could keep the attention.

I have a cousin like that. Whenever there are parties or she comes to my grandma's house to visit she spends the whole time yelling at her kids and making them cry while she spends her time playing cards. Then on FB it's all these pictures and posts about her children.

I think I'm I'm sterile and honestly hope I am. I worked with kids and they annoy me to no end. Since then though I've been around parents and their kids together, and the parents also pissed me off with how they regarded their kids. So I hope I'm sterile because I don't want kids, but at the same time I wonder how I'd be if I did have kids. I'll never risk having kids though because of commitment issues and figuring I'd be a horrible dad
