Now don't get me wrong, I love me some weed.
But weed has killed people, not because of the drug itself, but because of the influence of the drug on people who were stupid anyhow.
Now granted I still think it should be legalized, but what is the point of keeping marijuana illegal whilst alcohol is still out there like nothing is wrong.

Except that the prohibition is why alcohol is legal, and no longer illegal as it was during prohibition because, well you see, when they make something illegal, and it's legal today...there has to be some point where it goes back from illegal to legal. During the prohibition, the government realized that people were making their own alcohol anyway. Not only was this alcohol more dangerous because it wasn't regulated (people were putting all sorts of shit in there), but the government wasn't seeing a cent. That's why prohibition was ended, because more people were dieing, and the government wasn't making any sort of money when they could have been. Alcohol is still legal because the government knows the second it goes back to being illegal, people are going to go back to making bathtub gin and the government will lose money from the taxes they are no longer raking in. How do they know that? Prohibition.
Deal with it.
Deal with it.
"Except that the prohibition is why alcohol is legal"
-Prohibition was put in to place in order to make the sale/purchase of alcohol illegal. It was legal prior to prohibition. Therefore prohibition is not why alcohol is legal.
Prohibition ended, and then alcohol was legal again, therefore the LOSS of prohibition is why alcohol is legal.

Seems like the gov't is not learning from their mistake with prohibition then. If there is a very good reason why alcohol is still out there, that 'very good reason' should apply to Ganja as well.
Ganja is 'prohibited', so the mob steps in and supplies bootleg product and the gov't does not see a dime. Replace Mafia with Mexican Drug Cartel.
So #119 is right. What is the point of keeping Ganja illegal when alcohol is allowed?

This is the part of the argument where either alcohol is as easy to make as cup ramen, or weed becomes rocket science. I've been at this point before. The bottom line is that alcohol is legal because the government is able to reap all sorts of profit from it, and were it illegal people would drink anyway, only since it's unregulated alcohol, it'll be more dangerous and more people will die. The same can't be said about marijuana, which is why it may never be legalized. Everyone likes to say "They can just tax it", but it's not quite that simple. For one, those who keep growing will continue to grow and sell it at less than what the government sells it for.
And no, you're not going to buy the government regulated kind over the cheaper black market stuff. Don't even kid yourself.
