While there may be positive effects of smoking weed, the fact of the matter is: It makes a person dumb as fuck after prolonged use. Smoking weed takes away the ability to learn new things and to remember them.
Rain on me, red toenail clippings-from-overly-weed-positive-internet!

Pff, I know people that have been smoking every day since their 17th birthday, and are now over 45 and healthy. And yes, one of them actually smokes every single day (unless he ran out and can't find a dealer), and has a steady job, with enough money to buy a BMW M3 second hand for 25,000$ and lives with his wife, and now are buying a new, bigger house, in a more expensive place.
Have I mentioned that same guy reads magazines of cars while he smokes, always, and he know almost every car you can think of, knows every detail about each one, and can fix most car problems, and motorcycles too.
So please, don't tell me weed smokers are dumb and can't learn anything.
tl;dr
User avatar #1006 to #151 - CapObvious (02/10/2012) [-]
That, my friend, is what we call individual differences. How do you know that that man you are using as an example wouldn't have been a world-known car-designer if he hadn't smoked weed every day for 28 years?
I'm just telling you what I have seen of people who have been addicted to weed.
User avatar #1017 to #1006 - cartmananalprobe (02/11/2012) [-]
Well, people are happier with weed, and still productive in society. A lot of geniuses in history consumed drugs (even though most of the time it was opium)
User avatar #1019 to #1017 - CapObvious (02/11/2012) [-]
People MAY be happier with weed, that is no guarantee. And not all weed-smokers are productive in society. If you are going to post statistics, at least don't select the part of the statistic that furthers your view, share the entire statistic.
User avatar #1024 to #1019 - cartmananalprobe (02/13/2012) [-]
If a person isn't happier with weed, why consume it?
If a weed consumer isn't productive, it is most likely that he wouldn't be productive without weed.
And I'm not posting statistics, they are my opinions, that is what I see in the society surrounding me, and what I see in myself.
I am a consumer, I have worked, I am studying in college, I never broke any law (even weed is decriminalized here) so, I don't think I'm a bad example.
User avatar #1026 to #1024 - CapObvious (02/13/2012) [-]
Alas, we do not have a proven multi-verse theory, so we will never know if a person is happier with, or without weed...
On that second point, I put it to you that you are wrong. I put to you that a non-smoker, on average, is less apathic, and contributes more to the society around him.

whats your proof that it makes you more dumb. Alcohol is know to kill brain cells, is more addictive and yet is still legal why is that. I dont even smoke weed but it would be better for it to be controlled just like alcohol.
User avatar #1004 to #65 - CapObvious (02/10/2012) [-]
Have one thing straight: Alcohol is NOT more addictive. My proof is my personal observation of people having smoked for a long time.
User avatar #1014 to #1004 - abovelawl (02/11/2012) [-]
my proof is I that I smoked for a good 6 years and stopped cold turkey no problem. Yet a fair share of people in my town are alcoholics. Alcohol is way more addictive and it is a physical addiction as well as mental. I could see weed having a slight mental addiction to some people but no where near like alcohol. And you can also easily die from alcohol poisoning so over dosing, cant do that on weed unless you consume like an insanely large amount in a short time which is physically impossible. Look at the facts alcohol is more dangerous than weed
User avatar #1020 to #1014 - CapObvious (02/11/2012) [-]
Have I ever said weed is more dangerous?
What I am saying, is that weed hampers the ability to learn.
User avatar #1021 to #1020 - abovelawl (02/12/2012) [-]
you said it was more addictive, and idk I was just ranting

I'm not going to try and prove you wrong. But, from the studies I have read, there is no damaging effects to the brain from prolonged use of marijuana. Now, there is the problem that a lot of weed people buy is laced or something, which can easily cause damage. The plus side to legalizing it is that stores couldn't sell laced marijuana and so on. Either way, it is what it is and I'll live on whether it is legal or not. (I smoke, just not very often)
That's all, have a .gif and a nice day. :D

"...marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking and problem solving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that, in chronic users, marijuana's adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off."

Damages depend on the amount of usage one person is exposed to, but from the studies I have read, prolonged use, evenly over time builds up the amounts of, not damaging, but hampering substances, which, in turn hampers the persons ability to learn. And believe me, I've seen people affected by weed in such a manner, and it is a pity to see that they can't even explain what they've been doing the last 4 hours, even when not presently under the effect of the drugs.
#61 to #54 - scremph (02/09/2012) [-]
Ahh. Well I have not read those studies. I will take you on your word though, because I have not met anyone that were affected to that point by just weed. I have seen it happen on stronger drugs, just not weed. I was just stating what i have read/seen. Thank you for supplying me with more info, my good sir.
*tips hat* classy pic is classy

Ahh, I am delighted when someone actually is able to receive information, as well as give it, in a discussion! :) A good day to you as well, good sir.

Coming from someone who uses [url deleted] as their main source of information. You're a moron for thinking it "maekz u dum". Hahaha, I'm enjoying my 3.4 GPA, lol umed br0?? Prove me wrong.

#117 to #13 - boredomavenger (02/09/2012) [-]
3.4? I wouldn't necessarily call you a genius. It also entirely depends on the classes you take. A smart person could get a 3.4 while taking AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Economics, and AP English

while a total dumbfuck could get a 3.4 in remedial maths and Bio 101.

so until further notice, you're a dumbfuck in my eyes.
User avatar #34 to #13 - CapObvious (02/09/2012) [-]
The [url deleted] tells me very little... I'm guessing you're talking about Wikipedia? No. My main source of information is personal observation working in the military police. And some of the long-term smokers that I've seen have been so destroyed by weed that they're hardly able to remember anything about what they have been doing, even for the last few hours.

My sister's ex boyfriend smoked weed for a few years rather heavily and now all he talks about if how it fucked him up, made him stupid and impaired his memory. And my dad has a friend that can't drive, they took his licence away, because he smoked weed so much that it did damage to his brain and made him unsafe to drive. I don't have any scientific facts or shit to back that up, never been interested enough to look up how it happened, but all I know is that it fucks you up and thats that.
#22 to #17 - UniX (02/09/2012) [-]
And let me add on, I'm not fighting, I'm informing you. You actually just made yourself look stupid "I don't have any facts or Shit to back that up, never been interested in looking at the PROOF".

I'm done.

Yes, GPA's prove logic and common sense. How about you kids do your school work and come back to me.. For the record, there is absolutely ZERO proof that Cannabis usage impairs visuals, or disrupts speech/ movement. It's more a benefit than anything.

Be for or against, you have that right, but at least be smart about what you say.
User avatar #47 to #20 - CapObvious (02/09/2012) [-]
Compare Cannabis to a black hole. There's ZERO proof that a black hole exists, yet we see the effect it has. Vividly.
