Actually pot can lead to alcohols outcome. But it still shouldn't be illegal. Merely controlled, taxed, etc, just like booze.

Sill' OP, not understanding our complicated laws.
On a serious note, Marijuana impairs perception and reaction time. Tests have been done that show that people high on marijuana, while having no DIRECT problems, react almost casually in dire situations. One stuck in a simulated fire, was told that she needed to go inside the smoke filled house, crawling on her hands and knees and retrieve the "baby" inside. The baby just being a plastic doll. Not only did it take her 30 minutes to find the baby in the living room, but she would also completely stop moving at some points and look around. She even stood up in the extremely smokey area for a brief moment.
See, while yes, Alcohol and Cocain (which is illegal anyways) do have serious ramifications much worse than Marijuana, marijuana is NOT some miracle gift sent by God that has no diverse side effects. Hell, 80 years ago, people probably brought up this same point with alcohol, arguing it was safe to drink. Who knows, maybe in 80 years they'll find SOMETHING wrong with it. and sure, it's easy to say;
"Well we were dumb then, but we are smart now!" but are we really?
TL;DR Marijuana is not by any means perfect and harmless, people can get all butt hurt and say it's illegal because of the whole "Hemp vs Lumber" thing for paper, but lets face it. If Hemp was used instead of paper, thousands, possibly millions of people would be put out of a job, and legalizing pot would do little to stem that.
