To sum up all of the arguments below:
Guns should be illegal
It works in the UK: Less are killed per 'psycho' and there are hardly any black markets
The 'fun' of hunting doesn't outweigh the risk of massacres
You could have legal renting sites for safe gun hunting and ranges
Guns would be excessive self-defence if nobody had guns

All of this is backed up by the evidence from the UK.

That's why we live in america. Bitch.

Before I get thumbed into oblivion, let me make my point, american was founded on the right of free speech, the right to bear arms, yada yada yada, that's what makes this country great to so many people. If America took away the second amendment, people would go nuts, riots, impeachment, everything.

the UK's murder rate has gone up since they banned guns, contrary to the violent Americans stereotype you are actually more likely to be assaulted in the UK than in the US, you are 10 times more likely to be burglarized in the UK than in the US. Riot's involving massive property damage are more likely in the UK than in the US. And the statistic that pissed people off the most 80% of the people murdered with guns in the US are felons so its not like we're losing great people. You Englishmen may want to consider re-legalizing guns just to clean up some of the trash in your country.

The United Kingdom has one of the lowest rates of gun homicides in the world with 0.07 recorded intentional homicides committed with a firearm per 100,000 inhabitants in 2009 compared to the United States' 3.0 (over 40 times higher) and to Germany's 0.21 (3 times higher)

England banned them in 1960`s and since handguns and rifles were not as widely produced its not a good comparison.

Its true that you have one of the lowest gun homicide rates in the world but you have the highest violent crime rate in the world. You are 4x more likely to have a violent crime committed against you in the UK than you are in the US.

By the way this is based on the same statistics you used and the same year

UK- 2064 per 100,000

US- 466 per 100,000

"consider re-legalizing guns just to clean up some of the trash in your country"

Hahahaha. That's not a bad idea!

But I'm not English, nor am I from the UK. I just think it's a good example.
I do disagree with the point of some of your facts, however. Theft and assaults don't come with guns in my opinion. With or without guns they wouldn't really change, it's the murder that I care about, and more people are murdered per capita in America than UK.

Yeah... There's plenty of people who can go on a 28 person rampage holding a knife too. China scientifically proved that too.
#195 to #192 - iidonteven (01/06/2013) [-]
That's true, but the ease of it is significantly less so it occurs less. It was easy because it was man vs children. Gun or knife wouldn't make a difference. Whereas man vs 28 men, gun could kill them all, a knife probably wouldn't.

0 vs 0
0 vs +1

Anti guns still winning.

Fun fact, you're more likely to be the victim of a violent or deadly crime in the UK than in the US. You're just less likely to be shot in said crime. Funny thing about statistics.

Murder rate UK, per 100k, is like 1.1. In the US it's like 4.4. However, they, UK, do have a higher violent crime rate.
User avatar #322 to #190 - superunclesam (01/06/2013) [-]
It is however nice to see a drop of murder rates in both countries in recent years. Not that anyone talks about that. that 4.4 used to be a 9.7. I'm pretty sure they're 1.1 was high up there a while ago too.

You watch the "Pick your statistics" vid too?
User avatar #333 to #327 - superunclesam (01/06/2013) [-]
Yeah. My friend sent it to me. I actually knew that before he sent me it (I love reading statistics and silly things like that) but it was cool to have someone else see it too.

There was a link to it the other day on /k/. It was a perfect find for me because I needed information for an essay on the topic.
User avatar #346 to #339 - superunclesam (01/06/2013) [-]
I found it on /k/ a couple hours after my friend sent it to me. I'm pretty sure that's where he got it from but I didn't say anything.
#184 to #175 - iidonteven (01/06/2013) [-]
Not true. The murder rate per capita is higher in America.
Same goes for chance of being shot in school.
