Thanks man, I am always amazed at fandoms' abilities to generate any thing from quality fanart/to hilarious edits in less then six hours. Rock one mate, and have a good one.
Blue Pearl and Yellow Pearl have their gems on their chests like Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond. Assuming Rose either is or is part of Pink Diamond, her gem is on her navel - but Pearl's is on her head, like White Diamond. Conclusion? Our "renegade" Pearl originally belonged to White Diamond, but betrayed her to join Rose's Rebellion. Only question is, what happened to Pink Pearl?
We've seen that the gems can change their color palette though. I think the placement of the gem is much more important, and we've never seen them change that (it's even maintained in fusions). Consider that in the old Diamond Authority insignia, White is on top (head), Blue and Yellow are in the middle (chest), and pink is on bottom (navel). In the current triforce insignia, White is on top and Blue and Yellow are on bottom (pink cut out). Also, it makes no sense for Garnet to call her a "renegade Pearl" if she's just serving her master - that seems to be what Pearls are expected to do.
It also makes sense from the whole "strawberry battlefield temple" when Steven goes on a mission with the gems, retrieving some sort of white-gem object which powers all the traps and rotating rooms inside.
A possible theory being that gem IS white diamond, and it was originally Rose vs White Diamond when the rebellion kicked off.
I think we finally have proof that rose wasn't a diamond, all of the diamonds have diamond-shaped gems, while rose's gem is round gem with 5 facets.
Speaking of which, I had a theory; what if the reason why the diamond's hate inter-gem fusion is that they're afraid of the idea that some day, someone's going to fuse with a diamond and learn something important about them? they seem awfully keen to keep up the facade that they're better than every other type of gem after all.
A theory my buddy came up with earlier today that has similar thinking is that diamonds are actually just giant fusions. I don't remember exactly who said it or the context (or if it even was said) but i remember it being said that fusions are so strong because they compound the gem's strengths while cover their weaknesses. The gems are giant beings that are seen as all powerful and perfect. What if they're just the ultimate outcome of fusion; the perfect fusions. And the reason why they frown upon and forbid intergem fusion is because they're afraid of their secret being found out and a whole bunch of other "diamonds" being formed and trying to usurp the current diamonds.
hmm... I don't think that's true. First, we've already seen that there are some pretty huge gems, and single gems that are stupidly powerful (lapus, rose, sapphire), but more importantly, we've seen that the bigger the fusion the more unstable it becomes. Think about malachite and alexandrite, they're relatively small fusions with 2 and 4 gems respectively, and they're monstrous. Also, the cluster is basically a massive (horrific) fusion and we're led to believe that it's going to be a monster, specifically a geo-weapon. The diamonds are big, sure, but they're extremely humanoid, and they only have one gem.
Again, it's all speculation. I don't think it's the case, primarily because i ship Rose Quarts as Pink diamond, and there's gotta be some explanation as to why she's no longer super big or a diamond. But it could make sense too. Who knows? that's why i mentioned "perfect." it's probably not the case, but it would definitely explain the entire race seemingly being against intergem fusions.
Except it doesn't have the cut of a rose quartz either.
If we assume things are based on cut, then we have to exclude the idea of her being a rose quartz. Pink amethyst? Maybe. But based on the cut, position, power and voiceThe only reasonable difference is arrogance and tone. Compare Rose in "The Answer" to Yellow Diamond. Different, sure, but very close. , it's simply more likely to be a diamond.
Maybe, but if we're comparing it to a real world gemstone, I've never seen a diamond with that much color. Even the cloudiest of diamonds are still somewhat translucent, but steven's gem is entirely opaque. I admit that the cut isn't something that a rose quarts would usually show, but it has happened, it's a very soft stone so while they're usually cut round, i've seen them using faceted cuts.
Not just faceted cuts, but the fact that it's faceted the way it is.
That shape tends to be reserved for diamonds, when a Rose Quartz is cut like that, it has one less side to the main, forward facing face.
Plus, all other gems seen thus far, excluding fusions, have had pretty ordinary cuts, except for Rose and the Diamonds.
Also, I've never seen a Rose Quartz that reflective, as when Steven gives himself the thumbs up in his reflection in it. The slightly fleshy colour may come from, you know, being surrounded by flesh-coloured flesh, as we've never seen it poofed?
